Melbourne Victory - Adelaide United

Top match in Down under. Melbourne sit on the third place in ladder. 4-3-2 is their balance and a 16:8 goal balance.United is the leader at the moment in the A league. 5-2-2 12:10 goals. But both teams apart only 2 points.Thats not so much I think.

The league leader's visit to Olympic Park - the first of a sequence of four straight home matches for Melbourne Victory - won't daunt an Adelaide United side which has won four times on its travels this season.

Adelaide kept up its remarkable run of away form last weekend in Brisbane, bouncing back to the top of the table, past this weekend's rival. A fifth away win will see the team race four points clear at the summit with Sydney still to play Newcastle on Sunday.

On the other hand, a home win will catapult Melbourne top, a familiar scenario to the Victory faithful who are yet to see their side beaten at Olympic Park.

Both squads are close to full strength for the clash. For Adelaide, Ross Aloisi (shin) came off early through injury again last weekend. If he recovers, last week's hero in Queensland, Lucas Pantelis, will remain on the bench.

Other than Aloisi's ongoing trouble, coach John Kosmina has the luxury of an almost fully fit squad. Only Louis Brain and Michael Matricciani (both knee injuries) are still unavailable.

Despite offering little forward penetration in Perth, Victory coach Ernie Merrick will be tempted to stick with a creative front four of Danny Allsopp and Archie Thompson up front and Andy Vlahos and Richard Kitzbichler on the flanks.

Putting pressure on the midfield quartet is Kristian Sarkies, who is back in the squad at the expense of Chris Tadrosse, while Vince Lia returns for Ricky Diaco.

Defender Mark Byrnes, who was replaced before half-time by Carl Recchia last week, is fit to take his place in the 15 and should start at left-back.
Squads for this match:

Melbourne Victory: 1. Michael THEOKLITOS (gk), 2.Kevin MUSCAT, 4.Mark BYRNES, 5.Geoffrey CLAEYS, 6.Steve PANTELIDIS, 7.Michael FERRANTE, 8.Andy VLAHOS, 9.Daniel ALLSOPP, 10.Archie THOMPSON, 11.Vince LIA,
12.Carl RECCHIA, 13.Kristian SARKIES, 15.Adrian LEIJER, 17.Richard KITZBICHLER, 20.Eugene GALEKOVIC (gk)

Adelaide United: 1. Daniel BELTRAME (gk), 2. Richie ALAGICH, 3. Kristian REES, 4. Angelo COSTANZO, 5. Michael VALKANIS, 6. Ross ALOISI, 7. Lucas PANTELIS, 8. Carl VEART, 9. Matthew KEMP, 10. Fernando Rech, 11. Louis BRAIN, 13. Travis DODD, 17. Adam VAN DOMMELE, 18. Robert CORNTHWAITE, 19. Qu SHENGQING, 20. Robert BAJIC (gk)

Good odds for Adelaide away, 3.20 @ gamebookers !

any ideas ?

Re: Australian Football 28. - 30th Oct. 2005

Waaa 10mins more to kickoff, had been busy that i missed this one.

I'm looking more on a Victory win, Melbourne is too strong at home, people are very excited about the team and we can expect all home games to be near sell-out. Adelaide isnt bad, but after declaring they will be unbeaten for the season 3 games ago, Sydney FC beat them followed by another loss to the Jets where Adelaide made a whole lot of mistakes. They won last match but that was againts Queensland and it wasnt a convincing one.
There is a possibility of a draw here, but I'm leaning more on the home win, especially after Victory lost to Perth last week. And even better is that Adelaide beat them last match, so time for some revenge?

In other news,
Electronics giants Samsung has become the sponsor of Melbourne Victory and is the league's record sponsorship.

Melbourne Victory(-1/4) 3/10 for me
