just some comments from another forum about Dublin City last performance vs St Pats 3 days ago (they lost 2-0 btw)

Shockingly bad against Pats, thought the game would never end we were that bad.

For once Aertel got it right - discribing our performance as "abject"

That without doubt was one of the worst performances I’ve ever seen, by any Dublin City team.

Re: Irish League Cup : 8th - 10th May

Cheers Monty, I must have been in autopilot when I posted the fixtures. You're right I can't find much information at all. The only wee bit of information I found was pretty much useless...

Dundalk boss eyes Cup shock

Dundalk manager John Gill feels his side can put it up to eircom League Premier Division leaders Drogheda United in Monday night’s eircom League Cup second round clash at Oriel Park.

Drogheda will go into the local derby as hit favourites to advance following a stunning start to the season.

But Dundalk have won four of their last five games and Gill is hopeful of a bold showing from his side.

He told the
Dundalk Democrat: “The pressure will be all on them, they are the league leaders, Setanta Cup and FAI Cup holders and they will be overwhelming favourites.

”But we will give them a game and hopefully we can get a result.”

Re: Irish League Cup : 8th - 10th May

Match preview from www.droghedaunited.ie

It will be back to business on Monday when we travel to Dundalk for the second round League Cup encounter. While we came away from Tolka on Thursday night with a few mental bruises, the good news is that apart from Stephen Bradley, who has a hamstring strain, no one else has been added to our injured list. The unlucky Bradley has been forced to pull out of the Irish Under-21s trip to Azerbaijan and misses another chance to show his talents on a higher stage.

So, it will be a case of gathering ourselves and concentrating on the match in hand. There is no doubt that we ran into a brick wall on Thursday in Tolka, but there will be plenty of pride at stake on Monday against the Lilywhites (or is it the boys in green ?). Since our last visit to Oriel for the pulsating Malone Cup Final, we have played seventeen matches in twelve weeks, which was a punishing schedule, and maybe on Thursday we also ran out of some steam, or we had the monkey on our backs too long, something else. So, while the Leagu Cup is an important competition, this may be an ideal opportunity for Paul to give the likes of Sami, Derek T. Sean Williams etc a good 90 minute run out, because it will not be long before the weekend comes and we are off to the Showgrounds to face a Sligo team who held Shels to a draw.

Shane Barrett's injury is improving and he has started running again and may come into the reckoning for the trip to Sligo, which is great news.

So, its the Railway Bar for me at about 6, swally a few jugs of the amber nectar, a nice feed of chips in the greasy spoon and on to the theatre of dreams (drog dreams, that is). See yiz above !!.

at last, something...

Dublin City v Shelbourne team news
Monday, 08 May 2006 11:36

Both sides are likely to make changes for this Dublin derby in League Cup Pool D, though for different reasons following very contrasting performances in their last outings.

Dublin City boss Dermot Keely said he felt 'almost suicidal' after watching Vikings' dismal display in losing 2-0 to St Pat's on Friday night and knows a repeat display tonight could lead to an embarrassing defeat.

In contrast, Shels, who put in their best display of the season in beating league leaders Drogheda 2-1 last Thursday, are likely to start Greg O'Halloran and Richie Baker who have been sidelined with injuries for much of the season to date.

Dundalk v Drogheda United team news
Monday, 08 May 2006 11:41

Premier Division leaders Drogheda are likely to make several changes for the Louth derby at Oriel Park tonight in League Cup Pool B.

"Not to be disrespectful to Dundalk, but we've played 15 matches already this season and players need a rest," said Drogheda boss Paul Doolin who is likely to start Keith Fahey, Damien Lynch, Steven Gray and Gavin Whelan.

"The pressure will be all on them, they are the league leaders, Setanta Cup and FAI Cup holders and they will be overwhelming favourites," said Dundalk boss John Gill.

He added: "We will give them a game and hopefully we can get a result."
...
definitely I like Shels 1.95...(so much...lol)

Re: Irish League Cup : 8th - 10th May

Theres value to be had on Dundalk in my opinion. As it says above Drogheda have played alot of games recently and i would be surprised if they dont play a fairly second string side. Dundalk were on a decent enough run until last week as well and will want to put over on their County Louth neighbours.

The other game doesnt really interest me its hard to know what kind of sides will be fielded because both sides would not be to bothered about this cup. if i was pushed i would say stay away from shelbourne at odds on.

There are two games in the second round of the eircom League Cup tonight and of the league's big guns are involved in away games. Drogheda face a tricky Louth derby at Oriel Park with Shelbourne facing a derby against Dublin City at Dalymount Park.

Dundalk vs Drogheda United
(Oriel Park - 7:45 pm - League Cup - 2nd Round)
Referee: Derek Tomney

A run of four consecutive wins came to an end for Dundalk on Thursday as they slipped to a loss against Finn Harps. Drogheda too saw their amazing defensive run come to a halt as well as their unbeaten start to the season as they lost 2-1 to Shelbourne at Tolka Park.

Dundalk have already sprung a shock in the League Cup this season, they dumped UCD out in the first round for their first win of the season. Dundalk, like their visitors, may have eyes on something else with them due to face Shamrock Rovers later in the week.

Austin Skelly, Peter Hynes, John Flanagan and Trevor Vaughan are all rated as at least doubtful for Dundalk.

Drogheda are without the injured Stephen Bradley and Shane Barrett but manager Paul Doolin is expected to shuffle his pack in the least important competition the club are involved in this season. A number of players not involved recently will get a run but the starting eleven is still likely to be stronger than at least half of the Premier division's first choice.

Previous meeting(s) : Dundalk 0-2 Drogheda United (26/08/2005)
Drogheda United 3-2 Dundalk (26/07/2004)
Dundalk 0-0 Drogheda United (22/07/2004)
Drogheda United 4-1 Dundalk (10/05/2004)
Dundalk 2-1 Drogheda United (13/05/2003)
IrishFootballOnline.com Prediction: Away win.

Dublin City vs Shelbourne
(Dalymount Park - 7:45 pm - League Cup - 2nd Round)
Referee: Pat Whelan

Despite a good start, Dublin City's form has slumped in recent weeks. They have lost their last four league games, scoring only once.

Manager Dermot Keely is likely to make changes in a hope to spark a better performance.

Shelbourne are one of only two clubs in the entire league still unbeaten. Manager Pat Fenlon is expected to make changes for tonight's game and use players who have missed out recently through injured.

Greg O'Halloran and Richie Baker in particular have missed significant action due to injuries but both took a full part in the pre-match run out before the Drogheda match on Thursday. Glen Crowe could also get a run but Fenlon may not want to take the in-form Gary O'Neill out of the team.

Previous meeting(s) : Shelbourne 1-0 Dublin City (14/04/2006)
Dublin City 2-3 Shelbourne (21/10/2004)
Shelbourne 4-1 Dublin City (06/09/2004)
Dublin City 1-3 Shelbourne (04/06/2004)
Dublin City 2-1 Shelbourne (17/05/2004)
IrishFootballOnline.com Prediction: Away win.

Re: Irish League Cup : 8th - 10th May

According Shels official site manager will field strong team.

Pat Fenlon said: “We wont to win this one and Ill be making very few changes. We still have quite a lenghty injury list so I don’t have that much room to manoeuvre anyway. We played out best football in a long time, in Thursdays game against Drogheda and Id like to keep the momentum going.”

Shels probable lineup:
Williams; Heary, Hawkins, Dillon, Rogers; Ryan, S Byrne, O Halloran, Cahill; J Byrne, Crowe

Re: Irish League Cup : 8th - 10th May

Dublin City - Shelbourne 2 1.95
At Dalymount Park imo both clubs are not at home, and form, quality and etc are on the Shels side. Imo 1.95 represent value considering all circumstances (odds on but so close to evens lol)...

Dundalk - Drogheda is no bet for me.
Drogs with many reserves and Dundalk will try to disappoint league leader. But in fact it could be risky tactics to try too hard to win no matter Drogs will play without many starters. They havent concede a single goal in league untill their lost vs Shels. It was their 8th match (!), just reminder...
