ADVOCAAT EYES ZENIT-SPARTAK BATTLE

Dick Advocaat comments on Spartak-Zenit six-pointer that will take place tomorrow in Luzhniki.

Spartak have a chance to deprive their mortal enemies of the first place in the standings however Zenit head coach doesn’t think Moscow club give special pressure on them.

"Russian championship is unpredictable so any team could get an upper hand over their opponents", said Advocaat to Sport Express.

"Zenit beat many rivals midway the season however we didn’t manage to overcome the campaign favorite CSKA and Spartak but this fact still lets us head Premier Liga battle."

"To my mind Spartak didn’t change a lot after they sacked Vladimir Fedotov."

"The only one difference is that Egor Titov changed the role of the second forward for the position of attacking midfielder."

"As for Pavel Pogrebnyak’s participation in Saturday battle I prefer to speak about the whole team but not about players."

"Pavel succeeded in scoring at our previous matches and now is one of the top scorers so this fact makes his chances to come out to the field more grounded."

"Lebedev and our newcomer Nicolas Lombaerts didn’t take part in Zenit training."

"Lebedev is now training with our reserve and will play the next match with them."

"Lombaerts has some problems with his leg so if he can’t play against Spartak we will have to decide who will replace him in defence line."

"Tom coaching staff would like Ilya Maksimov to wear the uniform of their club but we need to think about ourselves at first."

"Zenit are to perform in three tournaments – Premier Liga, Russia Cup and UEFA Cup – so we can’t foresee which players we would require."

"We will discuss Tom offer with Ilya since I understand that young player should see more practice in the team."

Re: Eastern European Weekend: 19th - 22nd

Friday 20th of July, 2007
16:00 Dinamo Moscow vs Amkar Perm 1.57 3.20 6.00

DINAMO HOST AMKAR TONIGHT
The third-ranking Dinamo Moscow play the stuck-in-the middle Amkar Perm at home tongiht.
Injury-hit Skepsky will be the only absentee for the hosting side Dinamo.

Gaal will miss the clash for Amkar through suspension and his teammates Tscherbakov and Olexic won't be able to help through injuries.

Alikin is on trial in Zvezda Irkutsk which means he won't be in Amkar's lineup.

Though the teams have different goals to reach this campaign the first half clash ended with a 1:1 draw which gives hope the coming match won't be void of intrigue.

Re: Eastern European Weekend: 19th - 22nd

RUSSIAN PREMIER LIGA WEEKEND PREVIEW
Premier Liga weekend program starts today in Luzhniki with Spartak-Zenit fierce battle.

Premier Liga Matchday 17 kicked off yesterday as Dinamo hosted Amkar and both teams managed to grab only one point each in this match since it ended with goalless draw. Moscow club failed to catch up with their city rivals Spartak so they stand the third position with twenty-six points.

This weekend program will offer Russian supporters a breath-taking rivalry between the campaign favorites. Spartak will try to steal three points from Zenit in Luzhniki thus depriving them of the sole possession of the first place in the standings. Silver medalists of Premier Liga campaign-2006 beat their mortal enemies in Saint Petersburg this season so today clash will be uneasy for Stanislav Cherchesov’s team since Zenit will do their best to redeem themselves for the previous losses. Spartak will miss suspended Shishkin, injured Geder and Kovalchuk as well as Dzyuba and Ivanov who help Russia U-19 team at the European championship. Lombaerts, Kim Dong-Jin and Lee Ho will be out for Zenit.

Lokomotiv host CSKA as they are eager to earn three points and get closer to the leading positions. The title holders suffered a defeat from Dinamo last weekend failing to score a single goal in five consecutive matches. This will make them put an end to unsuccessful streak since Vagner Love and Jo comeback is likely to breathe a new life into the team’s performance. Anatoli Byshovets won’t count on Cosic and Spahic through injuries while Valery Gazzaev won’t rely on services of Akinfeev, Carvalho and Odia.

Saturn entertain Tom in Ramenskoe trying to leave the relegation zone. Visitors are only two points ahead of their today opponents so both teams will be striving to get farther from the dangerous zone. Saturn will be weakened by the absence of Igonin and Silla who are suspended, Gogua, Džiaukštas, Polovinchuk and Yakubko who are injured as well as Solomin and Pershin who help their national teams. Visitors are without injured Lebedkov, Proshin and Shirko.

Moskva take on Krylya Sovetov while both teams are ready to struggle for the first place in the standings. Brakamonte, Gubnik, Meleshin and Okoronkvo will be out through injures while injured Bitokov will be the only absentee for Krylya Sovetov.

Spartak Nalchik and Kuban who are stuck at the bottom of the table will cross their swords in Nalchik where they will determine the winner of the clash. Rustam Balov and Matic won’t help Spartak while Kuban have almost full strength squad with only Kaleshin and Zuev being unable to help the team.

Premier Liga Matchday 17 program will finish wit Khimki-Rubin clash that will take place on August,1.

SYCHEV READY FOR CSKA BATTLE
Dmitri Sychev talks about Loko clash against the title holders CSKA.

Loko forward didn’t manage to play the whole match against Khimki on Wednesday but now he is absolutely ready to help his team steal three points from CSKA.

"I had some health problems before Khimki clash so I couldn’t even think of starting the match since the very first minutes", said Sychev to Sport Express.

"The coaching staff asked me to help my partners so I came out to the field though I felt not very good then."

"Now I am sure I will be ready to take part in CSKA battle tomorrow but it is up to the managers to make the final decision."

"We played against CSKA this season in Luzhniki on artificial surface and I didn’t feel any discomfort."

"However like many other players I am not pleased with the pitch of this kind but if I need to play there I will surely fulfill my task."

"CSKA failed to get an upper hand over their rivals during several matches being unable to score a single goal."

"To my mind they should blame poor work in attack mainly connected with absence of their leading forwards Vagner Love and Jo."

"During the first half of the campaign I didn’t look well and thus failed to convert many scoring opportunities into goals."

"I should say that this is connected with the growing level of Premier Liga clubs."

"It is hard to say who will be the favorites of the clash but I can say one thing – there will be a real battle."

Re: Eastern European Weekend: 19th - 22nd

RODOLFO HOPES TO PLAY FOR BRAZIL

Lokomotiv defender hopes the Brazilian side manager Dunga will find a spot for him in the team's defence soon.

Lokomotiv are to face the reigning champions CSKA tomorrow in a clash that promises to be a six-pointer as the teams are at a one-point distance from one another.
The fortunate victory over Khimki gave Loko self-confidence ahead of the crucial battle CSKA.
The hero of Khimki clash Rodolfo spoke to Sport Express about the coming match and his international ambitions.
"The battle against CSKA will be very important for us since a victory can trigger off a successful streak," said Rodolfo.
"CSKA can now count on the services of the Brazilian side forwards Vagner Love and Jo but I don't think the nationality of the player matters."
"Yet I must admit that a large number of international players proves that you have to play a high-profile team."
"I am very proud of the Brazilian side as they proved by Copa America triumph that they were the best in Latin America."
"I can name only one drawback of the defence line: there was no place for Rodolfo."
"However, I am sure that I still have a chance to get a spot in the team since Dunga's selectioners pay much attention to Brazilian players in Russia."
"So I am doing my best now both at the trainings and in the matches."
"Unlike the main team, the junior Brazilian side made an early exit from the World Championships."
"I think the poor result can be ascribed to the inexperience of young players."
"I think Jo is the only one who has seen Champions League competition with his own eyes."
"CSKA defenders make up the core of the Russian national side defence and it is a sign of their power."
"I think the outcome of the clash will be determined by the teams' work in defence."
