Re: Aussie Thread: 20th July

from looking above i can see that the odds are out. Lucky for me i lost too much 3 weeks ago as then i never lost anything the last 2 weeks due to not betting. One or two nice winners on this thread last week so well done to these. Samoan there was a problem with your first post with it being captured by our anti spam device. I only realised late on friday. Folks must have wondered who i was talking to before as they couldnt see your post. all sorted now

La trobe to bounce back v a decimated Avondale? Ballarat at home i always like and i think things have turned abit sour at Geelong Rangers. Have Darebin picked up? I think they could have. Balcatta look to be poor this season as their 7-1 thumping at SWP could suggest. You know i aint a Dianella fan but the price looks ok on first inspection to me. Eastern Lions have a big game v Frankston. Tough to call but Eastern Lions are going well, Frankston too

Athena to have too much for Stirling?

I wonder if Mel Uni's form is still ok as if not Glenroy could be worth a look. Hume too looks a good bet on first inspection. Perth to show Inglewood that theyre a better team all round?

Werribee to get back to winning ways?

Berwick to win at...nnnnn.nnnnnn...nothing

W Knights i always like. I have to be interested though Joondalup are no mugs.

Re: Aussie Thread: 20th July

Early thoughts

Langwarrin - Combination of good form and generous odds

Maribyrnong - Hopefully Werribee losses are like London Buses -
wait for ever and then 2 come along at once

Ballarat - More like 1-2 shots, in my opinion so 4-5 appeals.

Fitzroy - Barkers are struggling and Fitzroy's recent form is good.

Sandringham - In danger of following them over a cliff, but I still
think they have improved for their new Manager.

Stirling L - Capable of keeping it tight, but its mainly the price
that appeals

Dianella - Can't believe they are odds against, after all they did
win the reverse fixture easily. Only worry is how their
run of losses has affected them, unlucky to play
exclusively against the top 4 recently and only
embarressed once. They also have a + 12 goal
difference against Balcatta's - 9.

Re: Aussie Thread: 20th July

Lanwarrin im keen on myself at the priice Samoan. I hear that new lad from Scotland played well on Sat too and they seem to be going the right way to me without actually looking at any of their recent record.

at the Greens and Werribee. I was actually thinking of maybe that tight 1-0 win being just one of them days Samoan. I better read more. Ballarat im glad you said Samoan and i think i agree that their way too long. I asked about them on the victoria forum so hopefully some info to add on that one.

Springval City really havent done it lately but theyve still got about the best three players in the league poss there and the wages to boot. Theyve been missing their new star striker signing due to suspension and i'll be interested to see if he's back. I would probably back both these teams this week if he is so i dont think i'll be getting involved.

That dianella price suprises me a bit too Samoan now you mention it. Bacatta were being touted as a poor team before their thumping at SWP. I know SWP aint an easy place to go but neither is Dianella who have a notoriously loud crowd.

I was interested in Fremantle at a big price. cockburn had 7 out last week v Wanneroo and just managed a 1-0 win. Fremantle can keep things tight and i wouldnt be suprised to see them pick up a rare win.

here's my post on the victoria forum-

Quote:
La trobe (too much at home for a decimated Avondale?)

Ballarat (aren't they a hard to to beat at home Geelong Rangers suffering a bit with injuries and off field probs?)

Langwarrin to get a draw at least?

Werribee back to winning ways?

Doncaster to win a tight one? actually i think Northcote are a bit stuffy and havent lost many games by more than a goal.

Pascoe Vale to get back to winning ways at home?

Cairnlea to thump league new boys Plenty who seemed to have improved?

Stonnington to win the basement clash?

they're the ones im interested in i think but you guys know better than me.
also this is an interesting snippet for us to digest-

Quote:
East [altona east phoenix] are more fragile against teams that are fit and work hard for as long as possible (Altona City) and teams that can match them in pace (Werribee)
.

moreland 's top striker could be in trials in germany for this week. More details to follow.

Re: Aussie Thread: 20th July

Avondale are playing their game at a neutral venue. the 8/11 with bet365 is too short for me on La Trobe though. Avondale have a thread bare team but one of their key players has returned from overseas so they might be a bit more potent upfront.

Geelong Rangers though are still missing some main defenders and are shipping goals for fun.
SportzVault: Geelong Rangers SC

Bah bet365 go 8/11 on ballarat too. Still Hills go 4/5 and thats the first one on my list

William Hill
Ballarat 4/5

Rumours are abound that big Caleb won't be there this weekend for Langy and with the Pines scots boys ready to close down the new Langy scotsman
Looks like my big pal Billy Armour is all set up for this one. I shouldnt let things influence me but seeing as Billy is at Pines i aint gonna back against them. Aslo their 2 strikers are in fine form too. No bet for me Samoan.

Mooroolbark have a new coach. I still couldnt back them and im glad i have reframed from backing them the past 2 weeks. Not one for me to get involved with.

The weather is really bad again this week (wet) and again that could spring a few suprise results. Need to tread carefully. also i note a few teams listed as the home team (werribee game) and reversed elsewhere.

Looks like Doveton star man and probably top scorer Brostow plays his last game this saturday before taking up a career as a pilot. I suppose he'll be wanting to sign off with a goal or two. Just a shame Morewell are in the best form theyve been all season.

Looks like Glenroy have a big injury list and where lucky to beat w Preston last week. No bet for me.

Darebin look interesting at the 4/5 with Skybet. The 4/6 elsewhere looks a bit more likely to me.

Re: Aussie Thread: 20th July

well i was burnt and burnt well by Werribee last week.

for this week, things to consider.

Altona East are coming off a huge 7-1 win over Williamstown last week away from home and should be too strong for Moreland at home.

Keilor will be too strong for Yarraville but 1.33 is too short.

Altona City should account for Lalor Utd, but again, 1.36 is short.

Regardless of where the game is played Latrobe will be too good for Avondale who will struggle to be competitive for the rest of the year.

Ballarat are a team that may be slightly over achieving and Geelong Rangers are not as bad as last weeks scoreline suggests.

Geelong will account for Corio in the Geelong derby.

At odds, have a look at Sydenham at Westvale and Fitzroy at home to a struggling Mooroolbark. Also, Laverton Park away to Nth Sunshine in the top of the table clash.

Re: Aussie Thread: 20th July

Good stuff nemo. It's great to read other people's thoughts on the games. I aint too sure sydenham have improved enough to get anything at Westvale off hand nemo. I remember thinking that Westvale were ok at the price. I havent really backed westvale this season as they seem to have played their games on a sunday poss. I always remember hearing how their 'too good a side for this league' pre season and they started to pick up the last i read. I'll need to read up some more.

Again just off the top of my head i heard Laverton pk were unlucky last week in not getting a win. I really should open us ass when typing things but i prefer to try and remember things as i go. Sorry if my info is inaccurate Arent N Sunshine the form team in the league? Geelong i really like and i have been following their rise a bit. I was reading htat they could have won the game v avondale by a few goals that 0-0 day that ruined me. They seem to have went on from there too. corio at home always worry me mind.

Interesting thoughts on Ballarat and Geelong Rangers. I think Geelong Rangers are a 2 man team with no defence and without reading up too much Ballarat at home might be a sstep too far for them. im still interested in the home but i'm glad youve brought me down to earth a bit on the Ballarat fancy.

I agree about Avondale but i am a bit worried about their goalscorer coming back. He might have to be bloody good though to make an impact. i hear Avondale are playing with a very young side now since sacking most of their 1st team. altona East i always like but Moreland always worry me a bit and a draw is a big worry for me in that one. Let me go around the forums and have a wee catch up...

Re: Aussie Thread: 20th July

Im liking Fremantle more and more. Just reading back here on the recent games-
www.footballwa.net : the Western Australian Football Website

Cockburn last 2 have been v 2 poor sides and they struggled to wins. Fremantle have looked good in them 2 games from what i can gather. let me see 3 games ago....bollocks i'll have to try the footballwa site. I missed this last week so ill post it anyhow. A glowing report on Fremantle. I fancy them to be due a win v a injury hit (to be confirmed) Cockburn this week.

Quote:
Floreat Athena (Grade: A+)
Where it’s gone right: Undefeated after twelve games and playing some exciting football. Michael Roki’s side is solid all the way down, and across the park.
Where it’s gone wrong: Quite simply it hasn’t yet, but everyone is waiting for the annual ‘Floreat slump’. Conceding four goals in fifteen minutes to Western Knights did expose some worrying signs.
Breakthrough player: ‘Jerry’ Karpeh has promised so much for so long and it’s good to see him finally start hitting the net against quality opposition.
Where to now? The only obstacle between Floreat and silverware is themselves.

Perth S.C. (Grade: A)
Where it’s gone right: Graham Normanton has a squad with tremendous depth and which continues to go from strength to strength. The injection of new blood has some Inclusion of new players added to their quality, whilst Oliviera hasn’t fired a shot.
Where it’s gone wrong: Losing Nikita Rukavytsya to Perth Glory with Andreas Oliviera short of match fitness The loss to Floreat Athena should be viewed as nothing more that a minor hiccup.
Breakthrough player: We all knew Nikita Rukavytsya was a quality player but he’s exceeded all expectations.
Where to now? It may be business as usual at Dorrien Gardens, but will fifteen minutes of madness against Stirling Lions come back to haunt them?

Cockburn City (Grade: A+)
Where it’s gone right: Good young side bristling with talent and desire to succeed. Off-field influences haven’t reared their ugly head and distracted the team from producing the goods on the park.
Where it’s gone wrong: They’ve dropped too many points on the road and that could prove the difference between title contenders and pretenders this season.
Breakthrough player: Goalkeeper Dino Pacella has a proven track record and slipped back into the Premier League as though he’d never left.
Where to now? Another solid season without the silverware to match.

Stirling Lions (Grade: B+)
Where it’s gone right: Started the new season where they finished off 2006. Have performed well despite some key players not yet firing on all cylinders.
Where it’s gone wrong: Big smashing by Perth exposed Stirling’s lack of variety. The absence and influence of English midfielder Steve Porter should not be under-estimated.
Breakthrough player: Teenage defender Steve Hesketh looks destined to take the next step in what’s shaping to be a successful career.
Where to now? Will be hoping another strong run in the Cup can return silverware.

E.C.U. Joondalup (Grade: B)
Where it’s gone right: New coaches Willie McNally and Gerry McEwan have brought with them new ideas and infused a new attitude amongst the squad which is working a treat.
Where it’s gone wrong: An absolutely woeful away record and instability between the sticks have prevented the northern suburbs side from being amongst the leaders.
Breakthrough player: Marc Anthony is an import of immense quality and more players of his calibre can only improve the standard of the local game.
Where to now? Start looking towards next season in order to capitalise on the improvement shown in 2007.

Western Knights (Grade: C)
Where it’s gone right: Their young squad is getting the results required while laying the foundations for what could be a very successful few years.
Where it’s gone wrong: While depth has been tested, the next level of Knights have justified the coaches faith and willingness to draft in ready made players.
Breakthrough player: Anthony Skorich has proven he has what it takes to play at this level, and can do a lot worse than learn the finer points of his trade from Stuart Montgomery.
Where to now? Out of the Cup and with little hope of getting back in the title race, the Knights are best advised to look at 2008 and beyond.

Inglewood United (Grade: C)
Where it’s gone right: They are finally beginning to play with greater fluency and realise the immense potential of a very talented group of players.
Where it’s gone wrong: A slow start coupled by injury to key personnel has effectively ruined Inglewood’s chances of silverware in 2007.
Breakthrough player: Daniel Niederberger - why did it take so long for Inglewood to hand him a starting berth each and every week?
Where to now? The rest of the season provides a good chance to promote some of Inglewood’s talented youngsters and move away from the tried and trusted.

Fremantle Spirit (Grade: A)
Where it’s gone right: Undoubtedly the surprise packet of 2007. Not only have Fremantle beaten the teams they needed to in order to make their Premier League return a success, but they’ve also pinched points from the top two teams.
Where it’s gone wrong: In all honestly, it hasn’t yet.
Breakthrough player: Right sided midfielder Sebastian Booysen has pace to burn, a great touch for goal and limitless ability.
Where to now? Have an excellent opportunity to give valuable game time to youngsters after securing their place in top flight next year.

Swan I.C. (Grade: D)
Where it’s gone right: Swan have put themselves in winning positions in almost every game played.
Where it’s gone wrong: Unfortunately, the blacks and whites have failed to go on with the job and lost the majority of those games. Injury and suspension has crippled the side who could still be dragged into a relegation battle.
Breakthrough player: Brendan Knox’ class still goes largely unnoticed by opposition teams.
Where to now? We’ve seen it all before - a Cup final appearance and a place in the bottom half of the table is the best they can hope for.

Armadale (Grade: D+)
Where it’s gone right: The Reds deserve to be acknowledged for their ability to match it with even the best of opponents when playing at Alfred Skeet Oval.
Where it’s gone wrong: An appalling record away from home has prevented them from claiming a position much higher on the table.
Breakthrough player: Experienced campaigner Jason Goodwin has taken his game to a whole new level in 2007.
Where to now? Try to get the three points needed to guarantee safety for 2008.

Sorrento (Grade: D-)
Where it’s gone right: The arrival of quality imports Chris Boyle and Gary Lynn has brought the Gulls renewed hope and confidence.
Where it’s gone wrong: They’ve been caught on the hop by a chronic lack of succession planning.
Breakthrough player: Jared Love has always been a player to watch out for but this year has shown his true class in a team struggling for form.
Where to now? Good recent form has seen them rise from the ashes, however, they need a few more wins to justify the imports.

Wanneroo City (Grade: F)
Where it’s gone right: They survived relegation in 2006 by the skin of their teeth.
Where it’s gone wrong: A woeful defensive record and a shortage of firepower pretty much sums it up. The management team must be wondering if sacking the coach after one game was the correct decision.
Breakthrough player: Ahmed Hafez has worked hard and shown he is a player of Premier League standard.
Where to now? Time to find out who is committed to helping Wanneroo win their way back into the Premier League for 2009 and put them on the park now

FIRST DIVISION MATCH OF THE WEEK -
Canning City vs. Mandurah City.
Canning City play top of the table Mandurah City this Saturday in a crucial battle that will have major bearings on the Football West State First Division at John Connell Reserve.

Stuart Currie’s Mandurah side sit six points clear at the top of the league ladder. With nine matches to play, Saturday’s opponents Canning sit in second place while Ashfield are eight points behind Mandurah in third place. The Peel-based side boast an array of talent spread across the park. Striker Christian Paschkewitz has been in lethal form up front, with a hat-trick last weekend against Dianella being just one of many superb performances throughout the year. Jeff Bright and Jordan Rhodes, who both played Premier Division football last season along with Andy Brown, form a dominant midfield while goalkeeper Mike Green is one of the best shot-stoppers in the league.

Canning City have pleasantly surprised many pundits with their outstanding results so far this year. The mix of new talent along with the strong players Canning already boasted has proved successful for Frank Longstaff’s side, as Canning sit just behind Mandurah on the table. Canning need to bounce back after a disappointing 0-3 home defeat against Ashfield last weekend, which saw them loose ground on Mandurah on the ladder. Paul and Mick Van Dongen have both been superb for Canning this year while new signing Dave Mickler, Duncan Hind, Greg Newcombe and Kyle Mitsopolous have been outstanding for the southern suburbs side.

With third placed Ashfield expected to beat an out of form Bayswater City at home and fourth placed Morley Windmills also expected to win their match against Forrestfield, both teams know how important it is to win on Saturday. Despite being a Canning City home match, the game will be played away from Canning’s usual home ground, Burrendah Reserve, and will instead be played at John Connell Reserve in Leeming, commencing at 3.00pm.

yes freo were very unlucky not to get all 3 points. the 2 keepers were the best players on the field. jason barerra, alex christie and dale wingell all good for freo.
cockburn looked like an average team, freo the better side

and other nice comments. Im gonna take them no matter what Cockburn's injury situation is like. Finding out what it's like is only gonna decide how much im gonna have on them. 6/1 in places but i'll happily take the 11/2. Looks like a bit of value to me. I reckon theyre about 2/1 on Sat less even if Cockburn have a few out. what you all think?
