Re: Singapore league 9-15 JULY
Liaoning Guangyuan FC vs Singapore Armed Forces FC
Date & Time: 9 July 2007 info@sleague.com 10.00 -9.00 -1.07 current odds <8.00> <4.50> <1.28>openning odds Singapore Pools 11.00-5.00-1.22 bwin SAFFC coach Richard Bok has reason to be wary of the unknown when his side takes on Liaoning Guangyuan on Monday evening. The Chinese side, perhaps stung by their under-achievement and a second-from-bottom placing so far, have undergone a major revamp of their squad. Nine first-team squad members, including former captain Chen Bo and midfield mainstay Zhang Haifeng, have been released, although they have yet to be de-registered with the S.League. Liaoning plan to register their replacements ahead of Monday's match, including the much-hyped 18-year-old forward Bu Xin. “From what I’ve heard, they have a bunch of new and good players. Although they won’t have enough time to gel together, I think the team will be much better. We’ll just have to find out how good they are tomorrow,” said Bok. Liaoning had a mini-upturn in fortunes in May, with wins over Albirex Niigata and Woodlands Wellington before a 1-1 draw with the Young Lions. The next month brought stiffer tests though and the Chinese side went down to league leaders Home United and second-placed Tampines Rovers. Monday completes their gauntlet of the S.League's top three, with the visit of the free-scoring Warriors. Before the international break, SAFFC struck an amazing 13 goals in their last three games - perhaps a reaction to going down 2-0 to Gombak in May. They lie seven points adrift of Home United at the top, with Monday's fixture their game in hand. “We have to keep winning every game to keep the pressure on them (Home and Tampines),” said Bok. “We still have two games against Home and Tampines. These are must win games if we want to be back in the title picture,” he added. His side will be without the injured duo of Shahril Jantan and Mustaqim Manzur on Monday. My choice is OVER 3.5 goals in bwin 1.65. In asia's bookies odds for OVER 3.5/4 is 1.25 !!! |

Re: Singapore league 9-15 JULY
Young Lions vs Gombak United FC
Date & Time: 10 July 2007 info@sleague.com <2.40> <3.20> <2.50> openning odds Singapore Pools Four goals in the previous game may have been good for the Young Lions’ morale, but V. Sundramoorthy is wary about expecting a repeat from his charges on Tuesday evening. The former national striker made his warning ahead of Gombak United’s visit to Jalan Besar Stadium, which takes place just three days after Sengkang Punggol were sunk 1-4 on the same ground. Khairul Amri scored a hat trick in that match to double his league goal tally for the season, while Fazrul Nawaz completed the first-half demolition job with a 40th-minute hit. But Sundram does not expect the form book to hold for the Young Lions, who also overcame Geylang United 1-0 last Wednesday, especially given the very different nature of Gombak compared to his team’s previous opponents. “It has been quite a while since we scored so many goals, but the game against Sengkang was one of those where you feel that everything somehow works for you,” he said with modest caution. “It’s going to be a very different game against Gombak. The players must approach the match positively and, at the same time, be ready for a hard battle against them. “As everyone knows, Gombak are a good outfit, and they will present a good chance for us to develop and improve ourselves. That’s basically the goal for the Young Lions in every match, whether the opponents are Sengkang, Gombak, SAFFC or Home (United). “In fact, I feel the pressure will be on the other side because they have so many foreigners in the team. We’re not under as much pressure as they are, so that may work for us.” Gombak’s quartet of foreigners have all played key roles in inspiring the team’s push into fourth spot, as have the immigrant duo of Precious Emuejeraye and Agu Casmir. Against the Young Lions, however, one of them will be forced to sit out of action. Defensive pillar Obadin Aikhena was sent off last Saturday against Woodlands Wellington, and will serve his one-match suspension on Tuesday. Aikhena’s absence means the Bulls will have to reshuffle their backline, with utility defender Jaslee Hatta the likeliest to come in for the Nigerian after Winston Yap has left for the Dolphins at the start of the transfer window. Whatever changes Salim Moin has to make, however, he is confident that the players will perform on the field and snap a three-match winless run. “During the game against Woodlands, I was already figuring out what I wanted the team to do against the Young Lions,” said Salim. “Aikhena’s sending-off will not be a big problem for us. We have enough depth, and I believe in the strength of the team as a whole, so missing one man will not be a big problem for me. “I believe the players can bounce back after our loss to Woodlands. All it takes is a little bit of motivation and psychology to get them to come back and perform. “As long as they know what their responsibilities are, they will be professional about their work. The minute they don’t perform, we will simply have the next guy come in; anybody who tries to be funny will find himself sitting on the bench, simple as that.” Apart from Aikhena, Gombak will be without the services of winger Ruhaizad Ismail, who sustained an awkward ankle injury while at reservist training and will be out for up to four weeks. The Young Lions too have their worries in the treatment room. Isa Halim was forced to exit the field against Sengkang after just 19 minutes, and looks unlikely to recover in time from what is at the moment understood to be a knee injury. Leandro Rodrigues meanwhile has to continue with his two-month wait to return to active duty, but a new foreigner could be in line to make his debut against Gombak. Chinese striker Yan Minghao, who has been training with the Young Lions since six months ago, will be looking to clear his registration following the opening of the transfer window on Monday. Yan’s inclusion would expand Sundram’s range of options in attack, while the defence is not likely to be overly weakened by the red card dished out to Noor Ikhsan against Sengkang. But will the Young Lions keep up their flawless home record against Gombak? Or will it be the Bulls’ day again after they had emerged victorious in the RHB Singapore Cup preliminaries at Jurong West? Find out this Tuesday at Jalan Besar Stadium. Re: Singapore league 9-15 JULY
LIAONING GUANGYUAN FC -SAF FC (9 JULY)
The S.League will take a 3-weeks break for a series of International friendlies and will resume for the Warriors on 9 Jul 07 when they will play Liaoning Guangyuan FC at the Queenstown Stadium. The Chinese side did not have a good run in the first round but they have shown glimpses of their ability in some of their matches played. With the expected change of players in the 2nd registration window, they will be expected to be stronger. This match will, therefore, be an acid test for them to rejuvenate their league form. The Warriors will be looking forward to closing the gap on the leaders and will not settle for anything less than a win against the Chinese side. The 3-week break will be a welcome opportunity to recharge their batteries before they launch their hectic campaign on 3 fronts: the S.League, Singapore Cup and the AFC Cup. http://www.safwarriors.com.sg |

Re: Singapore league 9-15 JULY
Woodlands Wellington FC vs Albirex Niigata FC (S)
Date & Time: 11 July 2007 info@sleague.com <1.63> <3.60> <4.20> openning odds Singapore Pools S.League supporters could be forgiven for feeling a sense of déjà vu, when they look at the current league positions of Woodlands Wellington and Albirex Niigata (Singapore). Last season saw the two teams finish 5th and 6th in the final standings, with the Rams having the edge by a mere two points. With one additional team competing in the S.League this year, both teams find themselves down a rung in 6th and 7th, but the margin between them is still that scant two points. Interestingly, since Albirex’s introduction into the league in 2004, the White Swans and the Rams have never finished more than two places apart in the final standings. For the record, Woodlands have come out tops twice in the three seasons since, with Albirex only faring better than their Wednesday night rivals in their maiden season. Not that the Woodlands have always been in the ascendancy. The White Swans do have some of the bragging rights at the moment, courtesy of the last meeting between the two teams: a 3-2 home win for Albirex more than three months ago in early April. However, the Rams were shorn of their star striking duo that time around, with Park Tae Won and last season’s S.League top scorer Laakkad Abdelhadi missing through injury. Woodlands still managed to score twice in that match, and will surely be confident of inflicting more damage with Park and Abdelhadi back in the team, the two players being the joint top scorers for the club in the league at the moment. Albirex club manager Bogdan Brasoveanu agreed that the match-up this time around would be made a lot different, with the different personnel involved. “They (Abdelhadi and Park) are very good players, who will bring something else to the team. It will be a very difficult game indeed,” commented Brasoveanu. Let’s not forget the factor of Rams captain Ahmad Latiff. The right winger has consistently turned on the style this year, and the goals have also been coming fast and furious. Latiff has five so far to his name in the league and cup this year, and all of them have come from direct freekicks. The latest special from Latiff came in the impressive 2-0 win away at Gombak, an unstoppable effort which had the away fans in raptures, and leaving the home fans defeated but acknowledging the quality of the strike. Perhaps it is too soon to face yet another freekick specialist. That sentence might echo the sentiments of the Albirex players, after their heartbreaking 2-1 loss to league leaders Home United last Friday, courtesy of a late Shi Jiayi freekick. Brasoveanu hopes the lesson learnt on Friday will not be lost on his charges. “That we lost to a freekick goal in the last minute, taught us once more that football is a game played over 90 minutes,” admitted Brasoveanu. “This time around, with players like Latiff, the players know that they have to avoid freekicks around the penalty area at all costs.” Albirex, of course, have their own freekick talisman in Eiichiro Ozaki. Himself, and striker Tetsuya Okayama, have accounted for nearly half of the team’s goals this season, and Woodlands will do well to watch out for the threat from them this Wednesday night. Albirex, who are at full strength with no injuries or suspensions, will be quietly confident of stealing the points over at the Woodlands Stadium, especially with four out of five of their victories this season coming on the road. Notably, their one home win was that triumph over the Rams, who will no doubt have revenge on their minds come this Wednesday. If the White Swans achieved a second win over Woodlands, they would find themselves propelled over their opponents, and into the top half of the table. A home win for the Rams on the other hand, could possibly lift them into 5th spot, and more importantly set them up nicely for their upcoming matches against Home and Tampines, the current pacesetters in the league. My choice is X2 (in bwin 1.97). |
