World Cup Quarter Finals 2-3rd July

I have to say that before this game I thought a German win would seal my Holland outright, Now I'll have to have a look at the German Semi and see how they play.

For tonights I'll be opposing Spain and taking some 1-0 against them (Germany have just got another and I think that I might have to lay off at the final, I'll be backing them in the semi regardless of opposition) I think we'll have a cagey affair tonight so I'll also have no goalscorer and maybe some HTFT.

Thats me sorted for these finals now no matter who wins the tournament, I don't know whether its luck or not but there's only England thats let me down as they never won their fcuking group. i still have a wee bet on Spain for the cup still running but after todays Germany win i might lay that off in the semi should Spain get through tonight as I haven't decided what I'm doing yet, for what its worth I may just let it ride as I'm still quids in.

While I wasn't exactly surprised with how the match panned out (with the exception of the first 15-20 minutes of the second half when Germany were woeful), I must confess to not having expected such a huge margin.

All said and done, hopefully this result will serve to vindicate Capello and England somewhat (especially if Germany go on to win the World Cup).

Spain beckons next for the Germans, but on the back of the former's performance against Paraguay, they're certainly in for their sternest test yet.

I actually mentioned no South American team winning in the last 50 yrs in a l8r post as I realised Brazil won it in Sweden in 58, not that has any meaning on modern football as its a whole new ball game nowadays.
Still its not to late as Brazil got beat which i predicted (noticed how Holland played better in the 2nd half when it got cooler), Ghana won on the AH too and I'm on the Germans like you are but taking the safer route on the AH. tell the truth taking Germany @ -1.5's looks suicidal to me.

If you cared to look a few posts down you silly bleeder when i was talking about the game 'weather apart' you will see a much clearer prospective from me and I'm not going to repeat it all again.

I was doing an Alan Parry going on about the weather to get some interest going, but my views and predictions were 100% genuine.

Let's start talking some sense for fuck's sake - if history "not that has any meaning on modern football as its a whole new ball game nowadays", we shouldn't bother with anything that is remotely historical (as a matter of fact, anything that happens a minute ago is history) since you're never ever going to get two matches played between two sides at different times under the same conditions (from the lineup to the ref, state of the pitches, weather, size of crowd and even possibly the matchball and having need to defend in the direction of the sun for the first half )

edtkh ,sorry but you are contradicting yourself, how can Germany's hammering of Argentina or them winning the competition outright, make Capello & England look good? England were simply shite and nearly all the English that posted on here admitted that, you are the one that has said if you read above, say that you cannot compare, i.e bother with anything remotely historical????

Perhaps, just let me be more concise: I never said don't bother with anything remotely historical (in fact, I held a view that was contrary to that) - I was making a point in response to slick about the relevance of history and I believed that was a crucial element in the Germans' win over both England and subsequent to my original post, Argentina.

Germany winning the tournament wouldn't make England look good technically speaking - as a matter of fact, it doesn't suggest England are anywhere remotely close to Germany's level (actually, this holds regardless of whether Germany wins the tournament). Having said that, just as I didn't believe England had any sort of a realistic sniff at winning the World Cup, I think the over-reaction to having need to review everything from a winter break to Capello's future was somewhat uncalled for - they were nothing more than a knee-jerk reaction to the abysmally unrealistic expectations England had more than anything IMO.

Hence, I thought Germany's performance against Argentina could and should go some way towards alleviating that sense of despondency in the English media (and as you can probably tell, I am not remotely British in any way ) and public at large; and hopefully put things back in perspective. At the very least, England are no longer alone in being slaughtered by the Germans which seems to be the only yardstick by which the standards of mediocrity are measured for even the highly-fancied Argentines were put to the sword in equally ruthless fashion.
