Re: Altitude
Mmmm, I haven't given quite that much thought to the altitude but I was thinking about it more from a Total Goals viewpoint rather than match advantage. I'm backing lots of goals.
Plus points are the new ball and the fact that balls fly faster and harder (and therefore possibly further off target) than at sea level. Minus points are that players are more likely to tire and the game might be slower than I would like it to be in order to create chances at end to end. |

Re: Altitude
I've no wish to hog your thread Quandram but apropos the above, Sporting Index offer a market on how many shots end up going straight out for goal kicks. It's a market I've bought in the past and made some money -especially the first time they did it as it was hopelessly underestimated. This one doesn't tempt me with the market at 705-720 in the 64 games you would need over 11 per game to make a profit.
Too high Actually I think Ill just start a spread betting thread. |

Re: Altitude
That's the problem Trick, at what point does it become significant?
Yes Nigeria appear to be used to higher altitude than the Argies but then it's not a third of the altitude they will be playing at. Plus Argies will have some experience of Chile and Peru etc... but then the Argies only managed a draw with Peru and lost to Chile. Was that altitude or the utter shambles that they were? Hog away ODM... i've no idea where if anywhere this is going. |

Re: Altitude
You need to be careful on taking stuff like this on face value. Brazil may well have played their qualifiers at that altitude - all qualifiers should be played at the same venue in a country as decreed by FIFA but Brazil have twisted that rule in the past and have played in a number of venues at differing altitudes in qualifiers in previous years - coincidenlty, ones that least suited their opponents. What I'm trying to say is that they are used to playing at varying altitudes.
On one occasion they actually cited the fact that they couldn't play a certain game in their usual stadium because of the threat of industrial action causing a power cut in the ground. The game was played in the afternoon. Cheating bastards |
