Re: World Cup Betting 11th-25th June (full list)
Sounds good to me MrJol, I might have some of that myself, I was talking to a workmate today about Holland being my outsiders for the cup and he mentioned something I hadn't thought about before.
He said well they should have an advantage due to Boer support from Dutch heritage etc. Anybody think it might be significant? apart from ODM who will say its a load of Bollox. |

Re: World Cup Betting 11th-25th June (full list)
the negative thing about the Dutch is that if they win their group they next play Paraguay, and win that to go into the last 8. The draw sees them come up against Brazil there and I see them losing that tie. The bottom half of the draw is way tougher than the top!

Re: World Cup Betting 11th-25th June (full list)
I'm not sure about Holland. They strike me as a very hot and cold side and aren't they always plagued with 'attitude' problems? If Scotland can carve them open countless times (I know they'd already qualified) you'd have to imagine a good side will do the same but actually put the chances away. I don't trust them to go all the way to be honest much as I enjoy watching them when they're flowing.

Well I have to confess to being rather tempted by USA not to lose. I didn't think their odds would be quite that chunky. They're a workmanlike side from what I remember (confederations cup again) but reeeeally get stuck in and battle for 90 minutes. And capable of the occasional big performance (some stinkers too right enough). This almost has a derby feel to it too. I reckon they'll be hacking and kicking England and closing down and being generally quite horrible to play against. Not sure how far that will get them but I'm considering it anyway.

I've got a chunky bet on USA Double chance @ 13/8
I think even if England lose they will still get out of the group. But USA DNB is 5/1@ BET365 which might be woth 2pts |

Re: World Cup Betting 11th-25th June (full list)
Might be more suitable in the Group C thread, in fact I may add it in there after...
5live were talking about the controversial Brazilian referee chosen to officiate the USA-England game. Apparently, this is his 3rd world cup and he's very picky, blowing his whistle for nearly everything. In the last world cup, he sent a player off after about 20 minutes! Now, USA-England will be a prickly affair, especially with Rooney given his behaviour last night. It might be worth having a bet on the cards: Bwin are @ 1.67 on over 4.5 yellow cards and @ 3.5 on there bring exactly 1 red card. I'm with you both on this game possibly being a draw. England just don't quite look up to speed yet. |

Cards could be interesting, gavin. Even without the reputation of this ref it looked to have potential. I was imagining it being a pretty physical and niggly game. Old school cup game style possibly.

Re: World Cup Betting 11th-25th June (full list)
Royal Bafokeng Stadium, Rustenburg.
The conditions will not be that severe, 7:30 kick off means around 20 degrees. The biggest factors to consider will be the altitude (+1500m), the pitch (similar to concrete) and the wind (expect 12-16mph). The hardness of the pitch will give a high bounce, we don't know how the ball will react to altitude or wind speed but my guess is unpredictibly. Given these I favour an upset. Quotes on USA have to improve between now and Saturday. USA +1 could be 6-5 or better. So I wait till Sat lunchtime, back the states +1 at better than evens, wait for the enevitable fuck up and collect. Easy right? Vin |
