World Cup Top Goalscorer?

Torres has got to be a decent shout if he's fit given that Spain might have trouble qualifying and therefore not have the luxury of resting their main attackers.

Rooney? I wouldn't back him to be top scorer in the England team, never mind the competition.

I seem to do quite well with these markets for the big tournaments, I remember the Euros think I got 3 of the top 4 correct.

For whats been said I would discount Torres and Rooney - Both no prolific enough for me.

Villa has a far better scoring record for club and country than Torres. I think Torres is a great player but he is not consistent enough for me, he seems to go on little scoring sprees. Back at Atletico I feel his goal scoring record is a bit false as the stats showed he was scoring like 8-9 goals a season from the pen spot - had you taken that away the ratio wouldn't be so impressive.

Villa at the same odds is a far better bet (and would be my main pick for the tournament). This man is as good a finisher as any in world football for me - I have been a big fan of his for many years. Domestically he is the man and has done the business season in season out for a side thats not even the best in the league (a bit from it the last few seasons). He can score all types - heads, both feet, tap ins, long shots...the complete package for me and with the supply from midfield he will have its hard to see past him. Unsure exactly and I could be wrong but does he take pens for Spain? I know he takes some free kicks!

First choice striker for a German side who normally do well in the big tournaments so the odds are good enough. Very good in the air and has done it all before. I expect Germany to get quite far so I can see him here or there abouts come the end of the tournament.

Messi @ 21/1

Best player in the world (by a country mile imo) and although Argentina have struggled, and he hasn't performed great for them under Maradona, I still think he will shine on the big stage like he did in the CL final. Great goalscoring record he has and if he can be a bit more greedier I can see him definately competitng for the golden boot!

Aguero @ 26/1

Another little genius who is in a very talented Argentina side but seem to be struggling. In arguably the best form of his career right now - takes most set pieces also and seems to be a lot more clinical on front of goal now (which held him back in previous times i felt).

Anelka @ 40/1

I hope France don't win a game or score a goal but they seem to have a knack for doing well in the big tournaments so getting their first choice striker @ 40/1 for an each way bet is a very tasty opportunity. I really like Anelka, pacey and very direct and has a good predator instinct about him.

Gilardino @ 40/1

I don't rate this man much at all if I am honest but Italy, like France, seem to know their way around the tournament stage and always do well so again 40/1 each way is a decent bet for the forward of this country. Has a decent scoring record also.

I think USA will finish second behind England so this price is pretty big to me. Donovan is a player I have admired for a long time since my days of following MLS. I would love to see him in a big european league (under diff circumstances than his early career in Germany and his loan move to Munich last season) as I think he is a player with something different that could be a success.

Anyways, he is the main man for USA...Takes pens, free kicks also and knows his way to goal so he is def a decent outsider.

Might have said this elsewhere on here, but I really think the key to a World Cup Golden Boot is an easy group stage. If a player has the chance to bag just four goals in their first three games they should be there or there abouts. Five goals (in total!) where enough for Klose to bag the title last time around...

I've backed Villa at 10/1 a while back i've posted it in here somewhere don't know what thread though!
Think it's a massive price his goalscoring record for Spain is amazing and he is their penalty taker whilst Spain are worthy favs and he should get plenty of games therefore!
Hondoras, Switzerland and Chile should be easy enough group for them to score a hatful!

Maybe in a couple of games dee'? I think he will come off the bench in most of them and he's more than capable of grabing a goal or two with 20 mins to go. If England do happen to go on a run, i think he might score more than Rooney.
At 150's i think he's worth a quid.

I’ll tell you my reasons why. He’s just had a dream move to the club he loves turned down, but it looks as though Barca haven’t given up the chase and according to this, should still get their man…

.. A decision could be reached before the world cup starts but I think it looks more likely to be after, anyway this could affect him either way, but I’m of the opinion he’s going to force the transfer further by being one of Spain’s top players in the tournament.
I think Barca will want to show some spending power before next season too.

I know it’s all about Torres and Villa for getting the goals but those two could also take players away from Fabregas, I think he’s going to be available and in spaces around the edge of the box. I noticed he clipped one against the bar in yesterdays friendly.

I wouldn’t be surprised out of Spain’s 5 goals Fabregas has netted two. It’s possible isn’t it.

What if I said he was @ 485 on Betdaq, surely you would think he’s overpriced?

Ive taken him @ 485 because I see value and I see a lay in it. I think I’m going to be able to lay him @ possible 15 - 20’s after the group games.

I’ve backed him nicely, and I’m hoping come the end of the group games I can lay for a nice profit either way.

Fabregas won't be starting for Spain - Alonso will be in ahead of him which is probably why the odds are so high on him. He will be Spain's 12th man at this tournament with Pedro just in behind him.

Villa still the outstanding one for me - check his record compared with Torres for Spain, he is a class above!

I think Spain will win the competition but it wouldn't surprise me to see Chile nick top spot - they are my dark horses for the competition!
