Who's Gonna Win The World Cup?

Right ll the teams are in and the draw is next month. suppose we would have to see the groups and the draw etc. It doesnt take a genious to know that Brazil will be there abouts and that Spain will under perfom. Italy still have players that know how to win a world cup and the Gemans will always get it together on the day. Maybe england's best chance since '66. Portugal aint gelling and we can forget fance boo hiss. folks will ant on about an african team winning it but i think thats still a few years off.

what we all thinking? a bit of a lottery really on the day. Its gonna be great though. all 7 pevious winners will be there and wil slovenia, slovakia and Serbia eastern euope hopes will be high.

England have got no chance, say that straight off..happily lay them on any important game that comes along, we'll beat some no-hopers 3-0 in the second round then go out in extra time to a semi good team that will get beat in the final, after we've been reduced to 10 men obviously..you wait, i'll be linking back to this when i'm proved right in 7ish months time!

Spain have got to do well some time .
I would not have England as third favourites but I suppose the bookies are taking advantage of the patriotic punters . England can beat any team on their day , once in the quarters they need three of those "on their day" performances. England lack the striker to support Rooney.
Germany do the business in the major championship , have not been very impressive in their qualification.
Italy seem to peak for the World Cup.
Opposing Brazil is very difficult to do and they are one team I would not lay at those odds , does that mean that they are value @ 5.5 ?

Yes, and for every European Championship too, but they actually justified their hype in the last European Championship. Having said that, I wouldn't much fancy backing them at 9/2.

Ivory COast is good bet, if Dogba will be fit and if coach knows how to set up team for all various matches they can take it at 25/1

I'd love to see an african team go far holly. whats the furthest an african has ever got in the world cup? Are Ivory coast the team with a few chelsea players in it?

No offence RC but the euro championships is a tinpot competition against the world cup. we'll have the usual heat and the usual pressures. I think theyll crumble again (as you suggest)

It won't be hot, it'll be winter in South Africa by then.

As for the Euros being a tinpot competition, 7 of the top 10 Traeth's listed are European. Ivory Coast are outsiders, Argentina are shite at the moment and lucky to be there, and surely won't go far unless they get shot of Maradona before the tournament starts. That just leaves Brazil, aside from that, the main challengers are the same European countries Spain saw off two years ago in the Euros.

Think i might have a few quid on the Germans and Dutch.
The Germans strength and team mentality shows through in all the big tournaments and they can grind out results and will get to the further stages anyway.
The Dutch are simply a fantastic footballing team, aslong as they don't come up against a strong physical team like the Germans they can go as far as they like. The only better footballing side than them is the Spanish.

Portugal are nowhere near the team they were a few years ago when they got to the final of the Euro's with Figo and Rui Costa and Postiga in his prime. They might even suffer to get out of the groups! Watched the Italians vs the Irish and they were nothing special, just seemed a team set up to defend and be very hard to break down. Wasn't it Brazil they played in a friendly and got stuffed 3-0 and were absolutely shocking trying to defend and Cannavaro giving the ball away at the edge of his own box trying to pass it about! That was only about 2 months ago, can't see them competing.
As for the French, as we ALL seen they should have been knocked out by, being honest, a poor Irish outfit. They missed Ribery big time who is the player who could create something out of nothing like Henry could in his prime (remember his goal at Lansdowne a few years ago about 25yards out and just dipped it over Given when they match was destined for 0-0).
Argentina's price has fallen from joint fav at 9/2 to 10/1 which shows just how terrible Maradona is as a manager, the team just has no tactics and looks soo disjointed. This team won't win anything under him.
England are only up there on the odds because as said above, patriotic punters. They WON'T WIN IT!.

To be honest Komp I have never really thought it before and always banded about Brazil, Germany etc but after watching Spanish football a lot the last 5 years or so I have felt they are a phenomenal side for a couple of years now and did the business last time out!
