Start betting

Hi everyone! The main reason why I have joined this forum was because I like playing and also watching tennis on TV very much. I am not so familiar with the sports betting yet, but I would like to be. I am at high school, and, during the last couple of weeks, I saw my colleagues getting more and more interested in the sports betting. They started talking about tennis matches, about the odds etc.

The most frustrating thing is that the majority of them don't even know how to hit a ball, but they bet. So why shouldn't I try it to?

And because tennis is nigh on impossible to win money at consistently. What with diff rules at diff bookies, and swindling, injuries, etc etc you have to have inside info and bet very seldom or you have no hope.

Few advices from me, if you'd really take it serious.

1. Grim is partially right that it's very hard to make profit from tennis if you don't bet at the exchanges and trade on the games or at least lay your stakes off at the right moment. If I look at my record at fixed odds betting, without trading I'd be on a huge loss, but it's trading and trying to lock a profit on nearly each game that keeps me interested at tennis betting.

2. You gain a huge advantage (trading wise) if you're watching the game you bet on over these who don't watch it and only follow the result via score board (for example).

3. Research is very important - stats, form, etc speak much about the outcome of a tennis game - decisions based mainly on "feelings" are often wrong (although some might be very profitable ).

And one more, according to the fact you haven't hit a ball or held a racket - that's not significant of course, but I reckon that these who have played tennis during their lives have a bit more practical knowledge about the game and could read the body language of the players they've put money on a bit more easily.

One important thing that I did not know until your response was that tennis is not such a profitable sport for betting. I chose it because I like playing tennis very much, I consider it a noble and impressive sport, whici demands, beside the physic effort and preparation, that 1 % of inspiration and talent...or even more than 1%. But, how it has been proved so many times, business doesn't always entwin with what you realy like.

So, which are, in your opinion, the most profitable sports for betting? And please, don't tell me about football, because I kinda hate it.

The most profitable sport is the sport that you yourself know most about - then your in the best position to make a decision regarding a bet, a value bet, a bet you think has a better chance of happening than the odds imply.

I used to bet on everything just because it was live on tv - snooker,darts,tennis etc etc - now ive grown up a bit I bet on the 3 sports I watch and know most about - horse racing, football, and cricket. I could watch those 3 sports without having a bet, the rest I probably wouldnt watch even if I had a bet . I honestly cant stand watching tennis, darts, snooker, bowls, etc etc - I will watch rugby league if I have a bet and sometimes if I havent, which is occasional - im in a big rugby area and occasionaly get info on team news etc . The rest , you can stick um!

I also used to get bored of tennis matches when I was little, but when I started playing it, I figured out that it is very exciting. I agree with you, one should bet on the sports he/she most likes watching.

Rememeber knowledge is power - dont listen to rumours and tales , back with what you have seen with your own eyes ! Then if you mess up its your fault. Your more likely to learn from your mistakes that way too .

And for what its worth, you never said where you are from, and here in the UK we finish High School at the age of 16 and you cant bet until your 18 (legally anyway!! lol) so Diddy was right in what he said
