Rolland Garros 2008

Opening the thread earlier as there are qualifications going and someone may wish to share opinion during the weekend. Expecting the draw and on Monday morning, if everything's fine I'll come up with several outright bets.

Nice weekend all

Re: Rolland Garros 2008

hello engineer

the draw published, once again the final federer v nadal looks unavoidable, almost certain

what i have in mind years now, is that draw method should change as follows

my idea is for grand slam tournaments only, not for any other

first round, 128 players

to be separeted in four groups according to rankings, so the first group obligatory draw with fourth group, second draw against third

then, second round, 64 players, again seperated according rankings, same draw as above

then we come to the very important third round 32 players remaining

here is the fundamental change : ALL 32 players against ALL

same applies till the final

with this method, we guarantee exceptionally strong line up, for the last 32, and then massive quality matches till end, also a match between number 1 and number 2 is not locked as probable final, guys the soccer people are not less wise

this is a method with champions league elements

anyway, thats my idea, i will come with ideas about first round matches

see you

Re: Rolland Garros 2008

Tennis - Roland Garros
Jiri Vanek - Huta Galung
Pick: 3 Units 1.60 @ Pinnacle
27 of May

First Round of the Roland Garros tournament, plays Jiri Vanek nº93 of ranking against Jesse Huta Galung nº 187 of ranking.
Jiri Vanek is one of the players with more games made in clay this season, almost all the matches that he had played had been in clay, surface where he feels more powerfull.
His best results had been the victory in Ostrava in its native country, the final of Meknes and the quarter-finals in Zagreb and Estoril.
He is a experienced and strong player in clay.
Huta Galung, is a young unknown player without any results of register. He made few games in clay and the few that made, had finished almost all in defeats.
So, we are before a game that seems to hav just one possible result, the victory of Jiri Vanek, a more experienced player and well prepared for this tournament, in a season almost all made in this surface, and certainly he will want to give a good image in this important tournament.

Re: Rolland Garros 2008

Andujar - Volandri - Andujar@2.76

Hi friends.

I think that odds Andujar of this match are too much great.

Volandri has physical problems (I believe has problems to the knee) and Andujar is a solid player that could create a lot of difficulties.
Italian players is not form and I think that if the match will last a lot of time he will have great problems.
I believe that the bet on Andujar is good and I will try to play on betfair for all green

Re: Rolland Garros 2008

Morning all, some nice input during the weekend
I'll take a closer look at today's coupon later, pressed for time at the moment and I'm still fighting the feeling for long accums today.

Should have the draws printed also, but to be honest, can't see Nadal finding much trouble on his way to the final, let's see.

Re: Rolland Garros 2008

What do you think of Serra - Gasquet? Gasquet has some psychological problem, probably. Is it possible Serra to win the match?

Re: Rolland Garros 2008

Can't say much about that game, Frank.
Both weren't shining with great form recently, but Gasquet's poor display went to extremes. I think he still has problems (mainly psychological) but I can't back Serra either. I'll leave this game well alone, but hope for a good Gasquet

Also with you Frank on Andujar @2.7 - 3 pts
Don't see Volandri as a fav in this one and the young Spaniard is more than capable of achieving a good result today.

Here are the other fancies of mine for today:

Lay Devilder @1.56 against Guccione - liab 1.2 pts
The Australian showed in Casablanca that he can play on clay and win points, not only with his serve and Devilder can find it hard against such opponent.

Erakovic @3.0 to beat Garbin - 2pts

Lay Chakvetadze @1.21 against Llagostera - liab 0.75 pts

Lay F. Lopez @1.41 against V. Arguello - liab. 2pts

The main ones:

Ammanmuradova to beat Wickmayer @2.16 - 4.5 pts

Hanescu to beat Sela @1.92 - 4pts

Kohlsreiber to beat Wawrinka @3.0 - 2.5 pts

Acca: Penetta + Cirstea + A. Radwanska + Ascione @~2.7 - 4 pts

Re: Rolland Garros 2008

Ancic Seppi - Ancic @1.91 stake 3/10

Ok tennis clay court is not the preferred surface by Ancic.
In the last period however Ancic is playing well on this surface. For me it is a difficult match because Seppi is playing well (good tournament in Austria) but I think that Ancic to @1.91 is a good choice because the italian player during the match he still has lapse in concentration

Re: Rolland Garros 2008

With you on a few of those outrights, Engineer, on Zakopalova (1000), Cirstea (1000) and Szavay (59.7). In the mens, have gone with Karlovic (910), Verdasco (backed and laid quite a few times last week, price tends to vary quite a bit in the early days, basically works out now at the equivalent of 980) and Granollers (1000).

No time today for any write ups on these, but have gone with M. Lopez and Sela in the mens, and Cetkovska, Llagostera and Gallovits in the womens.

Good luck all

Re: Rolland Garros 2008

Given the impressive way she's going so far against Bondarenko, I'll also add Cetkovska to my outrights @ 1000

Re: Rolland Garros 2008

LOL, Gasquet pulled out of the tournament, lucky loser Giraldo replacing him.

What's happening with the bastard?

Re: Rolland Garros 2008

Here's something from Drew Lilley from the official site of RG:

"Ritchie Ritchie Ritchie, out out out! Bad news for Richard Gasquet whose season goes from bad to worse – his coach Guillaume Peyre has announced that his player awoke with a knee problem this morning and has had to pull out. Florent Serra is through to the second round so it’s not all bad news for the Frenchies, but this is still pretty dramatic news – Ritchie was No.8 seed after all."

Strange they'd say that on the official site - Gasquet was replaced by a lucky loser (Giraldo), so Serra isn't through yet (although he is 2 sets up)
