Daily Punt – Fantasy Tennis Competition
You’ve probably played fantasy football at some stage so hopefully the rules for this won’t be too much of a stretch for anyone. From a limited budget You must pick 6 players from the current ATP top 100 to form a team that will win you points based on the men’s ATP singles race in 2008. Every point a player you’ve picked wins in the ATP race will go to your team. You’ve also the chance to trade players every month.
There will be cash prizes(see below).
The competition that will run from the 1st of January (2008) until the end of Wimbledon (July 6th 2008). Non tennis bettors more than welcome.
Who can enter
Any Daily Punt member with more than 50 posts can enter. I am restricting the competition to the first 50 players putting their names down. You can enter immediately and not put your team in until the deadline. I am also reserving the right to refuse admission.
Teams must be in no later than the midnight 30 December – Teams should be entered in the thread - Enter Your Fantasy Tennis Team here. Please include the costs of all players and the total cost. An example would be
Novak Djokovic - €8.75
Tommy Haas - €3.25
Carlos Moya €3.00
Juan Monaco - €2.50
Fabrice Santoro €1.25
Boris Pashanski - €0.25
Total - €19 Million
Team Budget
A full list of players and their costs are listed in the thread – Fantasy Tennis Player Costs. All costs are in millions of Euros so for example buying Federer will cost you €14.25 million. Your total budget for players is €20 million Euros at all times. It will the the competitor’s responsibility at all times to ensure that their team is within budget at all times and that any player transfers will not result in the team going over budget. In the event of a team going over budget then any points won by the lowest cost player or players that have brought the team cost over €20 million will be discounted until the team’s budget cost if brought below €20 million.
You do not have to spend €20 million. Spending €5 million is fine (even though you’ll probably finish last). Spending €20.25 million is not fine.
There must be no more than 6 players in the team at any one time. You can have less than 6 players (although I'm not sure why you would want to
)
Points scoring
Points are scored directly linked to the points won by the player at ATP singles events and as listed by the ATP website. For example if your chosen player wins a Grand Slam that will be worth 200 Race Points whereas winning a World Series event will be only worth 35 points. I have included last year’s points total for the top 100 players in the race so competitors can get an idea of what their money will buy. I have based the player costs mainly but not exclusively on the 2007 final race figures.
Scores will be updated on a weekly basis.
Transfers
You can transfer 1 player per calendar month between January and June (i.e maximum 6 transfers during the competition). If you do not use your transfer you will lose it for that month. Transfers cannot be carried over.
Transfers should only be made in the Fantasy Tennis – Player Transfer Thread. You should specify clearly what player you are “selling” and what player you are "buying" – i.e I am selling Mario Ancic and buying Guillermo Canas. You should ensure that you are within total budget at all times.
You cannot transfer players in the same weeks of different months (i.e you cannot make a transfer on the 31st of January and on the 1st of February). In this case you will have to wait until the week starting Monday 5th of February to make the transfer.
Transfers take effect (and points start to be scored) the Monday following the transfer (i.e if you make a transfer anywhere between Monday and Sunday of Week 1 it will only come into effect on Monday of week 2). The only exceptions to this rule will be certain events in Asia and Australia will start on Sunday evenings. If a transfer is made before the event starts it will be valid for that event.
No transfers will be allowed to take effect during the 3 Grand Slams (Australian Open, French Open and Wimbeldon) that will take place during the competition. Any transfer made will come into effect the Monday following the Grand Slam.
In the unlikely event of an event carrying over into a second (or third week in the case of a Slam) competitors will not be allowed to make transfers of players still active in that event. In otherwords if due to bad weather Wimbeldon runs into a third week you cannot sell a player during week two to buy a player still active in week three. I will try to use common sense here
.
Any points won by a player you have selected prior to transferring him will be included in your total.
You can transfer a player that you have bought in as a transfer. The DJ Campell Rule
Prizes
The current prize fund of €400 (Euros) is as follows
1st - €200
2nd -€100
3rd -€50
4th - €25
5th - €25
Ties
In the event of a tie (extremely unlikely) then the player whose team members have won the most titles will be the winner – if this fails to separate players then the two prizes will be split equally between competitors.
Other Matters
Hopefully I have covered most of the main items there. In the event of any dispute I will be the final judge. Please address any queries to me.
