There was a 2 page article in the
Racing Post today about tennis match fixing – nothing major new items there bar a plan for the ATP to possibly redistribute prize money from the top down a bit more equitably which I can’t imagine the top 20 will be too happy about. Of slightly more interest was a selection of the games on the dossier of 138 games compiled by bookmakers that have caused the most concern. It started in summer 2003 with the infamous Vicente-Kalefnikov match (the Spaniard reversing a 9-0 h to h) and being backed to heavy odds on to do so right up to the recent Davydenko kerfuffle. The matches with comments made interesting reading. The main villain’s hall of shame from the 26 selected was as follows:
Vassallo Arquello – 7 games
Volandri – 4 games
Davydenko 4 games (including 2 retirments when well ahead
)
Surprisingly Roitman barely featured (1 “offence”) and Economides who I pointed here would be going down very easily in two summer matches not even mentioned.
