Wimbledon men's event 25 June - 8 July

Given the popularity of the French Open thread, and the way we ended up dividing it into week 1 and week 2, may be easier this time to instead divide it from the start, and have a thread for the men's and a thread for the women's.

Anyway, seedings are out.

Quote:
Andy Murray has been seeded eighth for Wimbledon despite his participation at the All England Club remaining in doubt.
Murray has not played since suffering a wrist injury in the Hamburg Masters last month, and has yet to confirm if he will be fit to play when Wimbledon starts next Monday. But his world ranking of No8 has ensured a place among the top seeds, with defending champion Roger Federer No1 in the men's singles.

There is no place in the seedings for four-time semi-finalist Tim Henman, currently ranked No78 in the world. French Open champion and last year's beaten finalist, Rafael Nadal, is seeded second, ahead of Queen's winner Andy Roddick.

The men's seedings are based on the current world rankings, but are slightly adjusted to take into account grass-court performances in the last two years. World No4 Nikolay Davydenko is seeded sixth with Novak Djokovic and Fernando Gonzalez moving above him in the list.

Men's seedings 1 Roger Federer (Switzerland), 2 Rafael Nadal (Spain), 3 Andy Roddick (United States), 4 Novak Djokovic (Serbia), 5 Fernando Gonzalez (Chile), 6 Nikolay Davydenko (Russia), 7 Tomas Berdych (Czech Republic), 8 Andy Murray (Britain), 9 James Blake (United States), 10 Marcos Baghdatis (Cyprus), 11 Tommy Robredo (Spain), 12 Richard Gasquet (France), 13 Tommy Haas (Germany), 14 Mikhail Youzhny (Russia), 15 Ivan Ljubicic (Croatia), 16 Lleyton Hewitt (Australia), 17 David Ferrer (Spain), 18 Mario Ancic (Croatia), 19 Jarkko Nieminen (Finland), 20 Jonas Bjorkman (Sweden), 21 Juan Carlos Ferrero (Spain), 22 Dmitry Tursunov (Russia), 23 Guillermo Canas (Argentina), 24 David Nalbandian (Argentina), 25 Juan Ignacio Chela (Argentina), 26 Carlos Moya (Spain), 27 Marat Safin (Russia), 28 Philipp Kohlschreiber (Germany), 29 Robin Soderling (Sweden), 30 Agustin Calleri (Argentina), 31 Filippo Volandri (Italy), 32 Juan Monaco (Argentina).

Re: 17th - 24th June - Ordina Open (ATP / WTA) & Nottingham (ATP)

One more for today, already started but have taken it I/R, in the Wimbledon qualifiers.

Lay Dancevic v Qureshi @ 1.5, liability 2pts

Qureshi with some excellent grass performances in the past few weeks, shouldn't be this big a price.

Mahut available @ 449/1 on betfair. Based on performance @ Queens he could have a decent run assuming he avoids Federer in the early rounds. Definitely looks a decent trading opportunity.

I'll also be looking at small bets with a view to trading on Tursunov @ 369/1, Ferrer @ 999/1, Del Potro @ 739/1 and Tsonga 629/1

Re: Wimbledon men's event 25 June - 8 July

Cheers Beanie. Was looking a bit dodgy to start with, Dancevic broke in the 1st set almost as soon as I'd placed the bet, but Qureshi came good in the end.

Hope you took that 450 on Mahut, Dave, as it's long gone now, currently down to 230. Agree with the rest of those longshots of yours. Was going to say with the possible exception of Ferrer, but have just seen he made the 4th round last year, so I guess if he could repeat that he'd be a very good trading opportunity. Having said that, the fact he's not played any warm-up tournament on grass might not help him much, he's going to need to adapt pretty quickly.

I'd also add Qureshi as a potential longshot, another at 999/1.

Re: 17th - 24th June - Ordina Open (ATP / WTA) & Nottingham (ATP)

the Wimbledon championships

early draw thoughts

We will not see a federer Nadal final, and thats nearly for sure. Why?

because nadal will not reach the final. he is placed in a quite strong quarter especially if we consider that Berdych!! waits him at quarters, but he may have troubles as from begining against Fish, or later against Youznhy, really tough job for nadal this year, he has a lot to prove i guess

cya, easy draw for federer, huge favourite to reach at least final, and of course big favourite to win the title for fifth time, however i dont touch so low odds @1.4, jesus christ, prefer to bet on specific selected games

have a nice afternoon, murray is in questionable condition, none expects something special from the scot

Moved your post in here to the specific Wimbledon thread, Martens.

Draw can be found here The Championships, Wimbledon 2007 - Grand Slam Tennis - Official Site by IBM

Agree with you, that's a pretty tough draw that Nadal's got there.

Well, Del Potro will have Federer in R2 and Tursunov could have Federer in R4. Ferrer has a really tough draw too - Stepanek/Mathieu R2, and Ljubicic R3 and Roddick R4 Tsonga may have Murray in R2 but if Murray's out then Tsonga and Mahut could contest that little bracket.
