A Footballing World Tour

Much like Pydoom's R2R thread, but I'm only punting on football, and It'll only be on the obscure foreign leagues that I enjoy wasting my hard-earned cash on. I may enlighten you from time to time about why I choose certain games, I may not. Team news is pretty difficult to obtain, so I'll mostly be going on form and stuff like that....

Starting bank £50

Bet 1: Jabala v Jaish (2) @ 2.30 (Syrian League) - £2.50 stake
  • Jabala not won in four games, including a loss at home to the bottom club Horriya, and have scored just the one goal in that time. Jaish won their last four games, scoring ten goals and conceding just 3 times, two of which came in one game away to a decent looking Wahda side.
Bet 2: Sliema Wanderers v Birkirkara (1) @ 2.45 (Maltese League) - £2.50 stake
  • Sliema 4-0-1 at home, their loss coming against a Marsaxlokk team who seem to be running away with the league. They're unbeaten in their last four games since that defeat and seem to be in decent goalscoring form. Birkirkara are 1-2-3 away, the victory coming against a very weak Marsa side who are yet to pick up a point at home. They've scored plenty of goals recently, but they also seem to concede far too many. Sliema have won the last two meetings at home and are unbeaten in the last five.

Re: A Footballing World Tour

I will be following you on these 2 because just looking at the past form etc. these would be lower priced if they were in higher profile leagues. Definitely good value to be had in some of these obscure leagues as long as you have the time to dig them out - which I don't at the moment

So, I'll be looking in with interest to see what you find. Good luck (I won't put the 'fingers crossed' smilie because that always seems a curse of bad luck to me)

And that's the way I like it Komp. I have a love of all things obscure (football, music, films) and if i'm gonna pish my money away I'd rather do it on some obsuce under-15 football lithuanian cup final than the over-exposed English leagues. Don't get me wrong, I'll still pish my money away on the pansies in the premiership, but I don't get the same kind of pleasure from it!

Re: A Footballing World Tour

Current Bank £51.13

Bet 3: Tersana v Suez Cement (1) @ 2.30 (Egyptian League) - £5 stake
  • Tersana unbeaten in 4 games, their only home loss coming to one of the top Egyptian side, Zamalek. They're scoring in nearly every game and don't tend to concede many at home. Only their poor away form is affecting their league position (and inflating their odds) Suez Cement have only managed to avoid defeat in two of their last eight outings, managing to hold Olymbic (3rd bottom, home record 1-1-5) to a draw away from home, while beating Tanta (2nd bottom, away record 1-2-7) by the odd goal in three at home. Their last game culminated in a 0-1 home defeat by Asyut P, who currently sit bottom of the table.

Re: A Footballing World Tour

Current Bank £57.63

Bet 4: Ghazl El Mehalla v El Zamalek (2) @ 2.95 (Egyptian League) - £3 stake
(12:00 Kick-off)
  • Last seasons runners-up, Zamalek, travel to the team that avoided relegation by one point, Ghazl El Mehalla. Ghazl have started the season strongly at home (5-1-2, 12-5) but both their home losses have come against the stronger teams in the division (Contractors and Ismaily) with which I'd count Zamalek. El Zamalek are in decent form, bar a slip up away to Masry (home form 3-5-1) and a loss to reigning champions Al-Ahly. When on form they seem more than capable of beating any team in this league, home or away, and they seem a little overpriced away to a team that have been average (at best) over the last couple of seasons.

Bet 5: Panahaika 2005 v Rodos (2) @ 3.15 (Greek C Ethniki) - £2 stake
(13:00 Kick-off)
  • Panahaika are on a run of no wins in five (four lost in that time) and only two wins in ten, both home games against Paniliakos (1-1-6 away) and Zakynthos (0-1-7 away). Rodos with just two losses in their last ten games, home to league leaders Agios Dimitrios and away to Atsalenios (home form 6-1-0), and with six wins in that time, most notably away to Vizas and Ilioupoli. Rodos a bit big in this game imo.
More to come in the morning...probably!

Re: A Footballing World Tour

Hi Mrshrewdie,

As much as I detest them, I'm using Bwin (nee Betandwin) as they're one of the only bookies to do these leagues. A couple of their affiliates do them I think (Betoto, can't remember the others), gamebookers and 10bet as well.
