After a losing run knocked my confidence a bit, I've returned after a week away and decided to combine an enjoyable hobby of mine with another passion - non league!!! After taking people's advice on board, I'm going to keep a record, here it is! Starting bank is £5.20 (all that was in my Stan James account!). Wish me luck!

Hyde United v Ilkeston Town

Hyde have had a tough year this year financially, however they got off to a pretty decent start. From the middle of october till christmas it's been a struggle though, but they did manage a point against Southport last time out in the league, and got a 3-0 win in the Manchester Cup on Wednesday, albeit against lower league opposition. Hyde's last 4 home league games have been score draws, although you have to look back all the way to September since they last won at home.

Ilkeston have only played twice since "the big freeze", a 1-0 defeat to top of the table Fleetwood, and a 3-1 win over league below Buxton. Two of their last 4 away games have been victories, the other two score draws.

Personally I can't split the two teams, although I'm swayed towards either a draw (due to the amount of draws Hyde have had at home), or an Ilkeston victory (due to a decent away record this season). So for this I will be splitting my £2 stake (big spender) for both outcomes.

£0.77 stake on the draw at 3.60.
£1.23 on an Ilkeston win.

Either outcome would give me a 77p profit

I know the stakes aren't exactly high, but this thread is more of a confidence builder at the moment than anything!

Good luck Saint, i wouldn't worry about the stake size to start with, if you find you're good at this then i'm sure you will put stakes up at some point. If you're not good then you've lost little.

Ok so splitting the stakes worked as the game ended a draw! So I've got my 77p!

Northwich v Droylsden

Droylsden are a team that, if they cashed in with their games in hand (7 games behind the leaders!), could be right up there. They are only 1 point off the playoffs, despite being 3 games behind the teams sitting in the playoff spaces. There recent form has been (W-L-D) 3-1-1, so are in pretty decent form. There last 6 away games read 2-2-2, so pretty much right down the middle! However, that form does include a win over AFC Telford, who are usually a handful at home, and a draw against Stafford Rangers.

Northwich may be only a mid-table side, but one must remember that they had a points deduction earlier this year. Had they not had this they would be right up their with Droylesden. Their current form reads 4-1-0, the loss coming to top of the table Fleetwood. Their last 6 home league games reads 4-2-0, one of those losses being the Fleetwood game. Interestingly, in their last 3 home games in all competitions, they have scored 16 goals, two of those matches being league games. This would suggest to me that they know how to use their own pitch to their advantage.

For this game I expect a home win, but can't help but think that these two teams are evenly matched, and would only be 1 point apart had it not been for Northwich's points deduction. Northwich have good form overall, but have a leaky defence. And with Tony Gray being one of the top scorers in the league, I expect him to test the Northwich defence sternly. Droylsden's away form does not do anything to suggest to me that they will win convincingly. For this reason I will again split my stakes, between a home win and a draw.
