Kop in League 2

Another thread where I’m going to be logging my bets for a certain division - League 2
I’ll be doing a fair bit of betting in this league, I follow Hereford Utd as my other team to the ‘pool so it’s one worth following for me.

Last season the teams that finished in the top four in this league were the four teams that got relegated the previous season, I’m going in with that in mind and have added Stockport who finished well last season, all are at quite generous odds I think with those stats.

League 2 Outright

Bradford 6.35 @ 12/1
Chesterfield 5.51 @ 14/1
Brentford 4.86 @ 16/1
Stockport 4.35 @ 18/1
Rotherham 3.93 @ 20/1

25.00 staked to return 82.55
All bets above with Sportingodds who have them all best priced at present.

The likes of Peterborough or MK dons don’t convince me just yet but teams maybe added early next year when I re-assess.

Stakes will be varied between 2.00 and 50.00 depending on strength of confidence.

Come on you Mighty Whites

Re: Kop in League 2

Stan James are offering some good prices for League 2 top scorer, I’ve picked out 5 for a season interest bet.

MKDons look to have a good strike force in Leon Knight (24 )and Kevin Gallen (31), a team that should be top 6 at the end of the season imo and if these two work well together you’d expect goals. Knight scored 15 goals in 28 games for Swansea in 2006 before playing 9 games on loan at Barnsley with 0 goals. He joined MK dons in Jan 2007 and scored 1 in 8 before the season end.
Gallen had a poor season by his standards last season on loan at Plymouth with 3 goals in 18 but according to wikipedia he turned down a new contract at Plymouth to join a club at a lower level as he’d be more likely to get first team football. I think he’ll score into double figures easily at this level

I think Dave Penney will do a good job at Darlington and they’ve stated their ambition by splashing out 100k on Pawel Abbott (25) from Swansea. Abbott scored 44 goals in 109 games for Huddersfield between 2004 and 2007 and joined The Swans for 150k in Jan 2007 but a change of manager see him out of favour, he scored just once in 18 appearances, many of which he was substitute or substituted . I’m hoping the move back up north will see the 6ft 2 Polish striker scoring again.

Jack Lester (31) has signed a 3 yr contract at Chesterfield and although he is used sometimes as a striker and sometimes an attacking midfielder I get the feeling it’s a good move for him without him having to move home and the fact it’s a 3 yr contract should keep him settled. A good player whenever I’ve seen him play and although he’s more likely to set more up than actually score a small E.W bet @ 50/1was on the cards for playing at a team that I expect to finish top 3.

Another E.W shout is for Alan Connell who has moved to Brentford from Hereford, I was sorry to see him leave the whites as he was a good consistent player for us and although not often played in his favoured position he still finished the season as top scorer with 10 goals. Graham Turner wanted to keep him and offered him a new contract but he opted for a move much closer to home. I do think his odds are the most generous of the 5.

P. Abbot 4.00 @ 16/1
L. Knight 4.00 @ 20/1
K. Gallen 2.50 E.W @ 28/1
A. Connell. 2.00 E.W @ 50/1
J.Lester 1.50 E.W @ 50/1

EW: 1/4 1,2,3,4
20.00 staked @ S.James

Total Ante post stakes now = 50.00

Re: Kop in League 2

Two bets for me here this weekend

Chesterfiled have had a poorish pre season losing to a couple of non league teams but I’m hoping that’s behind them and they’re ready for the off. They travel to Chester who have been playing ok pre season though last week they had been ordered to reduce the wage bill.

Fro the BBC..

Chester have been told to put some of their players on the transfer list after they breached their approved salary cap for the coming season.
The Football League says Chester will not be able to bring in any new players until their wage bill is reduced.
Chairman Stephen Vaughan said they had already listed Lee Steele and Sean Hessey to help reduce the wage bill.

Chester struggled a bit last season and face a team that were relegated and although there’s nothing special in the price I’ve just a hunch the Spireites are going to win.

I’ve been keeping an eye on the transfers at Hereford and it looks as though G.Turner has finally pulled in some decent players. Former Leicester striker Trevor Benjamin is now with us, his 15th club and has given us some strength upfront, he bagged a good goal last weekend at Cheltenham. We have also signed a good young Derby County winger in Lionel Ainsworth who impressed on trial, Clint Easton from Gillingham and a couple of good long term loan signings from Watford.
Pre season has seen us get better with each game and some of the fans who attended are quite excited about our hopes for a change.

(001) Chesterfield 4.00 @ 13/8
(002) Hereford 4.00 @ 6/4

(001) Chesterfield 4.00 @ 13/8
(002) Hereford 4.00 @ 6/4

Two goaless draws.

I went to Hereford v Rotherham yesterday and although no goals it was an entertaining game, both clubs looked quite good and both should have decent enough seasons.
That Lionel Ainsworth who i mentioned for Hereford looked a class above down the wing, excellent, i thought i was watching Aaron Lennon for a while

Apart from that the only thing that bought a bit of joy in Lge2 to me this weekend is Alan Connell who i have backed E.W @ 50/1 for top scorer, he scored Brentfords goal in the 1-1 draw with Mansfield. Keep it up chap

Re: Kop in League 2

There’s a few teams I could of backed here this weekend based on a few prices that are slightly larger than I‘d of given, Bury @11/8, Wycombe @ 7/4, Brentford @ 11/5, Chester @ 3/1 and Bradford @ 9/4 but as last week I’m just going to back two again, hopefully with a better outcome this time.

I’ve watched Hereford play at home twice in the past week (0-0, 4-1) and I’ve been happy with what I’ve seen, we have been playing some ok stuff down the wings and have been good at knowing when to defend and when to attack. Whether we can play the same away from home remains to be seen. I know Frodo has mentioned the injury to Yakubu is a bit of a loss to them but to be honest it was the price of 11/5 that made me take the bet, a draw wouldn’t surprise me or even the home win but it’s just based on the price and our home form that I took the bet really (I wouldn’t of taken anything less than 7/4).

Dunno if you’re going to the game Frodo but if you are take a look at our new winger Lionel Ainsworth (I’ve probably just given him the kiss of death there) I’ve a feeling he wont be our player for very long.

My other bet is the bigger of the two, a level two stake, Darlington at Accrington. Reading up on last weeks games it was said that Accrington did a bit of a smash and grab job at Wycombe and hardly deserved a point never mind all three.
I’ve read a couple of reports on Darlo’s website too and it’s made decent form. They’ve plenty of scorers in the team, Joachim, Abbott, Miller and even Purdie to name four but there are several other things to like about them this season, including Saturdays stand in keeper Stockdale. Dave Penney is a very good manager imo and I’ll be very surprised if Darlo finish anywhere below 6th this season
I think 13/8 is a great price here, I’ll also shout Pawel Abott to get on the score sheet for them this weekend.

Good Luck League 2ers

Re: Kop in League 2

Just Darlington for sure and possibly Barnet too for me. It seems to be a hard set of fixtures to pick from this week, for me anyway. I’m with Eastern Fox on the Darlington though and the best bookie price about is Hills @ 4/5, I don’t have an account with them but I’ve still taken the 8/11 @ Ladbrokes .
I don’t generally like going for odds on chances so early in the season but it is a home and you cant knock Darlo’s form from their 1st two games, 5 goals scored and 0 conceded against Wrexham and Accrington. County have managed two 1-1 draws against Grimsby and Brentford. I just get the feeling that if County can be the first team to score against them this season then Darlo are still capable of scoring one more than them. They’ve strikers galore at Darlington haven‘t they?
I noticed Boylesports are going 7/1 for Joachim to be first scorer in this game, quite generous I thought but I actually went looking for a price on Tommy Wright who’s odds weren’t as big as hoped, no bet in the end.

(005) Darlington 12.00 @ 8/11 Ladbrokes

I've taken the chance on them, the 4/1 is long gone now though. Quite a few firms have cut them.

Darlington concede with the very last kick of the game 2-2
Barnet lose 2-1

Still in profit but a strike rate of 1 in 3 will soon change that.

Re: Kop in League 2

I’m going with Darlington again this week. They would of made it 3 wins out of 3 if it hadn’t of been for a 94th minute equalizer last week. Macclesfield are unbeaten but have drawn all 3 of their games, what must be a concern though is that they had led in all 3 of those games.

I’m not quite sure why Stockport are as big as 7/4 to win at Mansfield, County have started well enough, beating Dag + Red 1-0 on the opening day and then getting two good draws against teams that I think will finish top 6, 1-1 at Chesterfield and 2-2 at home to Rotherham, they then ran Charlton very close in the Carling Cup, finally losing 4-3.
Mansfield have been poor so far with just one point in their first three games and had a bit of a tanking in the Carling Cup at Oldham too. This is only their second game at home so far though and early form may mean nothing yet but the fact they have only scored 3 goals (conceded 7) and all three by the same player (1 of them a pen) suggests they’re nowhere near where they want to be.

(007) Darlington 4.00 @ 13/8 Betdirect

Re: Kop in League 2

Only 8 bets in the opening 5 weeks of the season and then I fancy 6 in one weekend. All aways.

From the BBC
Furious Grimsby manager Alan Buckley called his players in for extra training on Sunday after they lost 4-1 at Accrington on Saturday.
"We played for maybe 10 minutes out of the 90, and it it absolutely pathetic," the Mariners boss fumed.
The result left The Mariners 2nd bottom.
Their visitors this weekend are Stockport and although they are hardly flying themselves I think they’ve had some difficult games so far this season. I think they might edge this one and with odds of 15/8 for the away I’ve taken a small gamble.

I’m also having a small bet on 5th placed Chester who travel to Bury, who are again struggling in the bottom half of this league.
With Yeo and Partridge in the team I think Chester will pick up a few away wins this season, 9/5 at Bury was big enough for me.

MK Dons are just a point behind Brentford who’s results have come against teams in the lower half of the table. I fancy the Dons season is starting to get going now, a clean sheet at home last time must have been pleasing because they had leaked a few before but they have had no problems in front of goal and have scored freely in the opening 7 games of the season…. 1,3,3,3,2,2 and 3 again last week (all competitions), with goals going in like that it’s hard to see why Betdirect have them priced up @ 15/8

Chesterfield travel to Mansfield and with Lester and Fletcher in such good form I’ve added them too @ 6/4

Rotherham have put in a couple of good performances on their travels and are nicely priced for the trip to Wrexham who were very poor at home to Hereford a fortnight ago. They remain at the foot of the league.

Peterborough have quietly moved into 4th and have won all 3 of their games this month including a great result at Forest in the cup, they face a tricky game at Bradford but I’m going with them again @ 7/4
