Some folk never learn.....

Harry Redknapp will attempt to steer Southampton back into the Premiership next season but revealed the club's decision to release assistant manager Jim Smith had been hard to take.

Redknapp's Southampton future had been in doubt after the club was relegated from the Barclays Premiership on the last day of the season.

Well good luck to him,i honestly thought he would bugger off .
Funny how they gave Jim Smith the push because of budget restrictions.
Even funnier when you think Rupert Lowe seems intent on bringing Clive Woodward into the fold.

Jim says .....

"My information is that Clive Woodward will join Southampton which is another thing about the cost-cutting - it's a little bit false because I'm sure clive will not work for nothing."

Very subtle Jim,what are you trying to say

Re: Some folk never learn.....

I was just about to start a thread on the same thing Winrew. I think it's pretty shit of Redknapp to be honest. If he would have DEMANDED that Smith stay then Lowe would have relented (of that I have no doubt).

Redknapp positions himself as this man of honour etc. I think he's just shown himself to be a cunt.

Re: Some folk never learn.....

Jim Smith was interviewed on Sky and he didnt seem a happy bunny.
Its a bit of a backstabbing move by Lowe and Harry.

Smith also said Harry has to sell three good players ( god knows where they are )

He also said there would be no more signings,so it looks like a long hard season for the Saints.

Jim Smith doesnt need money that much, he seems to be the type of guy thats in it for the love of it. Bet he would have worked for less that what he was on. Another example of Rupert Lowe meddling IMO - Saints fans seem to be extremely loyal to their Chairman. Cant imagine many clubs where the Chairman would make quite a few bad decisions, get a club relegated and still be in a job.

Re: Some folk never learn.....

I read somewhere that relegated clubs find it pretty tough to go straight back to the Premiership due to a vastly different financial situation, much reduced income, having to sell their best players etc.

Does anybody have any stats for this as it would be interesting with an eye towards the Championship outright and place market for the coming season?
