Rooney banned for two games for swearing
BBC Sport - Wayne Rooney faces two-match FA suspension for swearing
Wayne Rooney faces a two-match ban from the Football Association for using offensive language during Manchester United's 4-2 win at West Ham. The United striker swore into a pitchside camera after completing his hat-trick at Upton Park. The England international has until 1800 BST on Tuesday to launch an appeal against the FA charge. If he accepts it, he will receive a two-match ban - if he denies the charge a hearing will take place on Wednesday. A one-match ban would see Rooney miss Saturday's home match with Fulham, while a a two-match suspension would rule him out of the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City at Wembley on 16 April. Rooney quickly apologised for his actions after the victory which moved Manchester United seven points clear at the top of the Premier League. Click to play Rooney outburst disappointing - PFA The 25-year-old was influential in earning the three points for the Red Devils as he grabbed his three goals in 14 minutes to help his side recover from 2-0 down. In a statement released by United on Saturday, the striker said: "I want to apologise for any offence that may have been caused by my goal celebration, especially any parents or children that were watching. "Emotions were running high, and on reflection my heat-of-the-moment reaction was inappropriate. It was not aimed at anyone in particular." Although Professional Football Association deputy chief executive John Bramhall described Rooney's actions as "disappointing", he said the player acknowledged his responsibility by issuing a swift apology. "Taking into account the highly pressurised situation within the game, it is still an action that wasn't acceptable and Wayne's apology confirms that," Bramhall told BBC Radio 5 live. "He has apologised immediately after the game and has clearly realised that they are not the actions you would expect of a player in his position." United team-mate Rio Ferdinand urged the media to show leniency towards Rooney through his Twitter account on Sunday. The defender called for newspapers and radio "to give Wayne a break" adding "he knows what he did was wrong". Ferdinand said he had spoken to Rooney and the United forward was "genuinely sorry". FA rules state: "A participant shall at all times act in the best interests of the game and shall not act in any manner which is improper or brings the game into disrepute or use any one, or a combination of, violent conduct, serious foul play, threatening, abusive, indecent or insulting words or behaviour." |

Re: Rooney banned for two games for swearing
That's going to be a pretty short discussion mate. It would probably need someone to argue that he wasn't a wanker in order to drag it out a bit. I'm not sure they allow internet access in mental institutions so that leaves us waiting for a rabid United fan totally out of touch with reality.

Re: Rooney banned for two games for swearing
Oh I remember him now. He's the bloke who thought it would be OK not bother turning up for a drugs test and then just say sorry afterwards.
Yeah, he sounds like a good judge of what's right and wrong. Cunt. |

Re: Rooney banned for two games for swearing
I listened to the appology on MOTD, It was clearly a Manchester Utd statement, not a Rooney one.
Having said that i personally think Rooney should of been warned about his future conduct and that should be the end of it on this occasion. Ok so he's a gobshite but he'd just won Utd the title with that comeback at West Ham, and goes into a massive game against Chelsea this week. He's constantly having to prove himself to the Utd fans just for being scouse and the pressures on him to deliver. Under the circumstances i think i'd of shown the same sort of tourettes. I'm surprised i'm defending the wanker, but should of been just a warning for me. |

People can't complain that footballers get away with murder and then moan when the FA actually tries to do something about it. |

Re: Rooney banned for two games for swearing
A two match ban sounds about right. No cause for complaint there. Does anyone know what sort of abuse he was getting at the West Ham game?

Re: Rooney banned for two games for swearing
moral panic.
column inches. about time he got truly hammered fact is after his petulanceto the camera in south africa the media have been waiting for him. cost him a few quid in sponsorship deals with coke but he can afford it. what i hate about the whole thing is united's bunker mentality as if they have been hard done by. rooney claims he issued a statement of apology straight afterwards,if you heard the statement that was not composed by shrek more likely a united senior. a great talent but evidence of whats wrong with this shite country since it sold out to capatilism. |
