Platini wants all Top Leagues Worldwide to have their seasons running in parralell from March to October. Michel Platini planning to turn football into a summer sport | The Sun |Sport|Football I can see the pro's & cons for this: Pro's: Unlikely to get postponed games in the uk, less matches played on dodgy pitches. England players should be less tired with tournaments staged in February & March and an alright break inbetween. Can watch the uk footy in shorts & t-shirt for part of the year. Might attract more people to start going & watch lower league clubs if it becomes a summer sport. Everyone is in the same boat so to speak for European games, plus wouldn't lose players to African nations cup, asian, north & south American comps. con's Other sports like cricket & rugby league would be hit if football was played all through the summer. Fixtures will have to be crammed in, probably would have 16 team EPL & Carling cup wouldn't involve Premiership teams. (could do away with the LDV or whatever it's called then though..) Part of the footy experience is freezing your nuts off watching/getting to a game in subzero temperatures. Plus no more snowball fights outside the ground... People going on their holidays in the summer so would miss matches. Afternoon domestic kick offs would be difficult in the heat of the summer in Southern Europe, let alone in places such as Quatar. Platini is a twat, and is just doing it cos Qatar are trying to become a football world power & are "allegedly" bribing him.. What's everyones views on the possibility of summer football? I'm mixed, so am open to the possibility. |

Re: Should the global football season be from Spring to Autumn
I was just saying the other day that i would go to a lot more live matches if they were played in summer. I appreciate that some of you die hard fans will turn up and travel a couple of hundred miles in the snow after work on a Wednesday but, for me, going to a match in August, September, April or May is just a totally different experience to the bleak midwinter.
In winter, I'm already fucking depressed even before my sack of shit concede in the first three minutes. When the weather is decent I can at least resign myself to the fact that I can have a few beers and a day out instead of sitting freezing, wet and sniffling and feeling that I can't fucking wait to get home and get in a nice warm bath. As Kiko says, fuck other sports. Although I know from my own playing days that we always lost a few players at the beginning of every season who would still be playing cricket whilst the seasons overlapped. They're the ones who would miss out the most. The other thing that worries me is having the closed season in winter. Fucking hell, I'd have to kill myself (which is another reason for you cunts to vote for it) knowing that I had no football for five dreary months. At least as it is now, we have the summer to fill the void. |

Re: Should the global football season be from Spring to Autumn
Well its done Rugby League a load of good both attendance and entertainment wise, our summers are custom made for field sports as its a rarity the temperatures are hot enough to be uncomfortable, plus with the price of Electric being what it is imagine the savings that can be made with the light nights lol.
My biggest fear is winters becoming more miserable than they allready are, imagine the thought of a long winter with no footy to watch, it sounds unbearable, at least in the summer you can get out of the house and do other things , even if its just sat in the garden having a few beers in the fresh air tanning that bald patch. |
