Re: Michael Owen - what next?
I wouldn't write him off just yet.
He's always known where the net is and i think he could still cut it for a big club. Maybe he doesn't have the pace of old but he's still a player you'd want in the penalty area. A good player to bring on from the bench too. I hope his career picks back up anyway. |

I would take him to Celtic in a heartbeat. He has had injury problems but I think its worth taken a chance on him aslong as its a pay per play contract. His goalscoring record is brilliant and he won't be short of motivation knowing a good season could see him gatecrash the England World Cup campaign next year. Might have lost that yard of pace but he hasn't lost his goal scoring instinct. |

Re: Michael Owen - what next?
I would. It's not a question about his quality, it's about his motivation and his injury record. Of course he'll keep taking the money while clubs keep paying him to have a massage every three days on the injury table but his number one priority is his horse racing set up. I haven't see what clubs are in for him but I wouldn't be surprised if he signed for Blackburn, Bolton or Wigan next season (maybe Stoke at a push) as he won't want to be travelling the length and bredth of the country every day. |

From day one (in my opinion) I dont think Owen has loved football. He was just very good at it and made a good living from it. He doesnt have the passion of say a Teddy Sheringham or Nev Southall to still be playing when they're in their late 30's and falling to bits. Football has given Owen a good living, but it is not his life. I would question his drive, determination, fitness, loyalty and ability to bounce back to his self of 10 years ago. Put quite simply, it isnt going to happen. |

Re: Michael Owen - what next?
That could quite possibly be the stupidest signing ever made and just backs up my view that this is Sir Alex' last season as his senile old brain has finally overheated. They'll be lucky to finish higher than third this season.
If you want to back them then wait until the end of September. Chelsea will be clear at the top by then and you'll get a decent price. That's all you'll be getting for your money though |

Re: Michael Owen - what next?
Its not the first time he's done something like this its happened in the past with players like Sherringham and Larson and worked out for him.
This signing just goes to show how desperate United are for strikers and the lack of quality strikers that are around at the moment, if Owen is fit then in a decent side he will score goals unless his knees are fcuked like with what happened with Fowler then he'll struggle and his career will be over, Ferguson is to old in the tooth to and wiley to sign up Owen without first checking him out with a full medical and as he's cost fcuk all and from what i've read playing on a pay per play basis he could have grabbed himself a bargain. For Englands sake i hope he has cause at the moment we don't have a striker who can bag 20 odd goals a season, we only need a injury to Rooney b4 the world cup starts next yr and were fcuked. If we expect to win anything with Crouch and Heskey then were kidding ourselves, if Owen has a decent season and regains his confidence it will be the best thing that could have happened from an England point of view as at his best Owen is a world class striker theres no doubt about that. Any striker would have struggled in the Newcastle side as they just never created chances but his goal per game ratio b4 moving to Newcastle was probably the best in Europe. My first thoughts were like Seens but i reckon he's worth taking a risk on as money can't buy experience and if theres one manager who can get Owen firing on all cylinders again then it will be Ferguson. |

Re: Michael Owen - what next?
Thats what i was saying , if you don't load the gun how can u expect a hit, Newcastles last game of the season says all that needs to be said, all they needed was a goal and rather than going all out to get one they were lost even playing duff at full back, thats hardly Owens fault , Newcastle have bad management from top to bottom but put Owen in a decent team with a decent manager and we should see a differnt player completely.
