Simpson Leaves Carlisle for Preston

Quote:
Paul Simpson has been named as the new manager of Preston North End. Simpson, 39, joins the Deepdale club from Carlisle and replaces Billy Davies, who has left Preston to become the new boss at Derby County.

Simpson, whose previous clubs include Rochdale, Blackpool and Walsall, has signed a three-year deal with the Deepdale club.

Preston have announced that they will officially unveil the 39-year-old at a press conference on Monday morning.
Absoloutly gutted that he's left us! He's helped turn our club for a struggling League 2 side into a team that has a decent chance of challenging for promotion next season.

I just hope we get in a manager as competent as Simmo as a replacement, preferably someone who knows the club either from playing here, being a supporter or having some other association. I can't think of anyone off the top of my head, maybe give Billy Barr a chance (should he want the job) as he's done a top job with the youth team.

Aye Winrew, it's a bit of a shock. We don't get the News and Star down here (Manchester) so I've only just read about it on ceefax.

We've just gotta hope Story appoints the right man to take over. Just reading on the News and Star website that they've been inundated with applications already. Some of the names being banded around include:

Billy Barr - youth team coach and top bloke (as long as he doesn't follow Simmo).
Andy Preece - ex-player and current Worcester manager.
Mick Wadsworth - ex-boss, currently unemployed.
Mervyn Day - ex-boss, currently unemployed.
Stan Ternent - ex-player (i think!), currently unemployed.
John Ward - ex-assistant manager to Simmo, currently Cheltenham boss.
Peter Beardsley - ex-player, just about to finish his UEFA 'A' Licence.
Kevin Gray - current defender, wanting to begin a coaching career.
Tommy Cassidy - current Workington Reds boss.

I'm sure there are plenty of others as well and I'm sure it'll all be sorted before the new season. I just hope whoever comes in keeps the nucleus of the team together for this season at least and improves the positions that need improving.

We shall see! Preston have got themselves a decent manager anyway!

Merv might be a good choice , he`s been with Curbishley for a few year , i would go for Beardlsey , at least he married a Carlisle lass

I`ll keep you posted mate , i take it you cant get Border News down in Manchester , i also get to read Star most nights , so if out pops up , i`ll let you know straight away.........

Cheers Win!

Merv would be a popular choice to return I reckon.

I suppose we could give Beardsley his chance as well, might be a bit risky though. After all, when Simmo came with very little experience we were about to be relegated so we had nothing to lose by appointing him. May be risking a bit to have an unproven coach taking over when we're on the up! It would be great to see him at the club though!

  • Was just thinking there, the best type of "fuck off " is the following; You`re playing astro, 5 a side, someone shouts "handball" and the "fuck off" response is fucking class.
