Liverpool have made no progress under Benitez

Interesting statement and one that I dont agree with. My gobby fucking arsehole of a mate has just rung up to tell me how great Ferguson is and how shit Benitez is and that how a fat Spanish waiter who doesnt understand the English game will never win the Premier League.

Fucking Yoo Nited glory hunting Cunt.

Anyway, I thought I'd have a wee butchers at where we are now and where we were when Rafa took over. I was quite suprised to be honest that in the season before Rafa's arrival 2003/04 we managed to notch up just 60 points.

Today's final league table has us on 76 points.

This is an improvement, no? Its also an improvement on last year's tally of 68 points too.

Now I dont think that we can bridge the gap easily and challenge for the Premiership next season. I am realistic and appreciate that United last year had the best team in the country. They went out and spent twice as much as us in the summer and so have a better squad this year. This summer they will no doubt lash out money on a forward, maybe a right back, maybe cover in the centre of defence and possibly a keeper too. Once again their net spend will be bigger than ours and they will probably be above us in the league again come next May.

Incase you're wondering, there wasnt really a point to this thread and it doesnt really go anywhere - a bit like a Formula 1 car driven by a British driver..... erm?

Re: Liverpool have made no progress under Benitez

Its an improvement on last season but its still 6 points behind your total the previous season, which suggests last season was a big backwards step from the previous one and that the team still haven't caught up on where they were 2 seasons ago.

Interesting to note however that the league winning total in the last 4 seasons is dropping, 95-91-89-87 this season. Chelseas 85 points however is still the best 2nd place total that I can see, the last 3 seasons before were all 83 points....and they are all still better than Liverpools best total.

I think the expectations are Liverpool are one of the "Big 4" therefore they should be challenging for the title each season. However while they are finishing top 4 they have never really put any of the winners under pressure at any point in the last 4 seasons.

To take the next step up I think Liverpool and Rafa need to improve their record against Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal. Without looking is it not quite poor over the last few years?

Re: Liverpool have made no progress under Benitez

It's fast becoming the big 2 , United and Chelski then the next big 2, Arse and Pool, then the rest.
worse than the bleeding SPL
