One Hundred Million Pounds

The fee offered for Cristiano Ronaldo apparently:

It is believed Real told United last summer they would pay up to 120million euros for the Portuguese star.

The Red Devils made it quite clear they had no plans to sell Ronaldo - but the wonderful form of player, which has seen him score nearly 40 goals this season, will prompt a new bid.

Real have made little secret of their desire to lure Ronaldo to the Spanish capital and now La Sexta is claiming that an incredible £100million bid is imminent.

La Sexta - who have the rights to La Liga television coverage in Spain, are said to have close ties with high-ranking Real officials, from where the news on the possible bid have emanated.

However, it is also being reported that despite the huge bid, Real are not expecting United to accept the deal.

The current world record for a footballer is already held by Real, after they £46million to Juventus for Zinedine Zidane in 2001.

Recent speculation intensified after it was reported in Spain that Real's sporting director Predrag Mijatovic met with Ronaldo's agent Jorge Mendes in London and Rome in recent weeks.

Yeah, i'd be sure willing to splash out that kind of money for a player who disappears in the big games, give him a derby county or a team who are doing shite in Serie A and hes in his element.

Id take Messi over him any day of any week

I remember them going on about getting Kaka and they ended up with Arjen Robben. Could be the same thing this time around.

Also, I'm sure I read that Real had to get a short term loan off the bank to make ends meet. Maybe our Spanish correspondant could confirm this is the case, RC any news?

Maybe this is a way of controlling their public image - why would anyone suspect a funding crisis at Madrid, when they are demonstrating on the back pages that they are capable of spending record amounts on a single player, etc etc.

First I've heard of it, although I've just got back to Spain today after being in England all last week.

On the subject of Robben, they did actually promise to sign him too, he wasn't a second choice - they said they'd sign Kaka, Fabregas and Robben, but only actually got Robben.

Re: One Hundred Million Pounds

While we have our Spanish correspondant knocking about, I would just like to ask him (RC) if he knew what Madrid's plans for Robben were? Is he going to be axed in the summer?
