Re: Man attempt olympic torch snatch

There were mass demonstrations today against the torch relay and rightly so in my opinion.

Im sure it was Tony Blair's government that asked the England cricket team not to play Zimbabwe in the world cup and as such, England forfeited the match did they not? For them to come out and argue now that sport and politics are two separate entities is totally hypocritical.

China has a shit record on human rights, its totally appalling. They are also the hosts of the Olympic games this summer. We dont have to like them, but for us to withdraw our team is probably unfeasible. So we can co-operate without endorsing either the games or the country itself.

Allowing the torch to parade is effectively endorsing the country and its policies on human rights. We can compete, have a cordial relation with them but to allow them to parade is shocking and it was asking for trouble.

I am glad it totally fucked up and went arse over tits.

we allowed them to parade the torch but we allowed people to protest and hence the protests could be broadcasted across the world , it was reported by the bbc that Brown did not "touch" the torch .
Were these "subtle" protests as the next olympics are London bound .
Pity we've got to wait 4 years to protest about something that is wrong here.

Allowing the torch to come here at all sends out the message that we condone the regime and its actions. You can bet that the torch's jpurney through London wont be mentioned in the Chinese media - maybe that will get some people in China questioning why.

All these celebrities and ex sports people who are role models and who carried the torch today should be fucking ashamed. Cunts the fucking lot of them.
