Dennis Wise to Newcastle United...

...apparently in a Director of Football type role?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Cant see that King Kev would have asked for this, particularily give that Wise's brief apparently covers recruitment and buying players. Based down in London most of the time according to reports in the press.

An odd one indeed.

Wonder if this opens the door for Kevin Blackwell to re-join Leeds?

Re: Dennis Wise to Newcastle United...

This may of course be complete and utter coincidence, but:

Leeds' record this season while Poyet was working as Wise's assistant: 11-2-0

Leeds' record since Poyet left Leeds to join Spurs: 7-3-5

Is Dennis Wise even that successful as a manager, or was Poyet the man behind Leeds' relative success this season?

When Keegan was asked about reports linking him with a return to Newcastle as director of football under then-manager Sam Allardyce, he said: "It's absolutely impossible to give Sam a job at Newcastle and then go and fetch someone who is going to be some sort of threat, it doesn't work.
"Sam would be a fool to let it happen and the guy who goes in would be a fool to accept it. "The chairman, who is not a fool, would be a fool to go and do it, too. It doesn't work."

All set to go swimmingly this, isn't it? I make that 3 fools at Newcastle, according to Keegan. And that's without counting Joey Barton. Although maybe he qualifies as a twat rather than a fool.

obviously too late to really comment on this as Gary McAllister is now in the seat, but MasterBates and Blackhole cant stand each other so that was never even under consideration.

I didnt know Gary Macca had got the job?

Thats brilliant news there - really really pleased he's back in the swing of things after the troubles he's had.

A future great manager IMO.

Re: Dennis Wise to Newcastle United...

The more I think about the appointment of Wise, the more unsure I become. If you are picking someone to scout for you and to manage transfers, surely you couldnt have appointed someone who was more out of touch with Premiership football. In that, Dennis Wise has probably spent the last 3 years scouting leagues 1 and 2 along with the conference - given his budget and remit at Leeds and Swindon.

Its hardly as if he will be aware of the hottest properties in European/World football. I mean, would you trust a man who has been watching League 1 football all year to fill you academy with European prospects of the highest calibre? I certainly wouldnt.

If they had appointed someone with a European background or a knowledge of world football to oversee this side of the club then yeah fine. But I dont see what Dennis Wise brings to the table, as it were - he must be nobbing Laura Ashley or something and she's put a good word in with her Dad or something. I dont think that with a scouting network, you need a General Manager/Sporting Director or whatever you want to call him. But if you will insist on having one, why not go for someone like Houllier - or at least someone with a foreign name FFS.
