Brilliant wasnt it.
On the negative side, I have heard more than a couple of murmourings today, suggesting that Besiktas are little more than a pub side and that anyone could have beaten them. Slightly disrespectful I'd say - to both the Turkish club and Liverpool too.
I remember 2 weeks ago, people were creaming all over Arsene's Arse - his young, butch boys had battered Slavia Prague and they were described as being "magical" by the
BBC.
Infact, going through the article from the
BBC, the phrases they use are more complimentary than those used in our match report: "fabulous move", "breathtaking performance", "the ball gliding", "
sumptuous finish - reminiscent of Thierry Henry".

Lets compare and contrast with those used in our match report: "8-0 thrashing" is about the best they come up with. Which again hardly infers a great amount of skill - it implies we muscled past them, relying on braun rather than brain.
BBC SPORT | Football | Europe | Benitez revels in record victory
Gerrard's goal, a sweeping move from Mascherano who delays the pass, readjusts his body and lays it into Gerrard who plays a 1-2 with Voronin who back heels round the corner for the surging Gerrard to finish. This goes down in the annals of history as "Steven Gerrard also grabbed a goal".
Hardly a description worthy of the move in my opinion. But lets have a look at the way they consign to history, some of the great moves from the night... oh, there arent any. Whilst the Beeb seemed only too willing to wax lyrical where the young artisans of North London were concerned, they felt it un necessary to go to the same levels for Liverpool. Either very lazy journalism, or dare I say, some anti Liverpool sentiment being exposed here.
Fair enough - no change there from the BBC. Good stuff - really delivering a good public service there. Twats.
