Z-Cars at Anfield tonight

Liverpool FC, in agreement with the parents of murdered Liverpool lad Rhys Jones, have agreed to play Z-Cars before the Champions League game tonight.

Much better way to remember the kid rather than having a minute's silence IMO.

*bump*

Cant imagine any other club / city doing this IMO. Would United play "Blue Moon" or would you get Millwall playing "Blue Is the Colour" if this happened in their repective Cities?

Hmmmm

Each to their own and all that but if my son had been murdered a week ago I wouldn't be presenting myself in front of the UK media at Goodison or Anfield or any football ground.

Hope to fuck they don't turn this into Maddy 2.

No and I wouldn't want them to. Rather deal with my grief in private thank you. I have every sympathy for the parents but standing in a United shirt at Maine Road wouldn't be my way of dealing with it.

Guess that's the difference between self-pity city and the rest of us.

Agree 100%. I'm not sure what good airing private grief and trauma in such a public setting does for anyone. You can mock all the "stiff upper lip" British attitudes beloved of the stereotypers as being unfashionable but before Diana died and all the over reactional hysterics that followed most normal people did their mourning in private and were probably better off for it. Now everything has to come out it seems whether in the papers or on the chat shows in front of the country at large.

No-one thinks there might be some therapeutic benefits?
I don“t know myself, I“m just asking.

One thing I am certain about is that keeping it to yourself doesn“t work.

I suppose there“s a middle road somewhere between hiding away while it festers and turning up in front of 50,000.

I do, after what's happened to that family last week i think the support the City has shown them will help them in some way. I think i understand why they did it.

it needs to be kept in the public glare so hopefully the little scum bag can be caught before someone finds out who he is and they `sort` him out

Not sure about that mate. I'd rather somebody blow the cunt's brains out to be honest.

None of that "Jamie Bolger give em a few shrink sessions and a degree and let em out in ten years" bollox.

Not exactly politically correct I know.

Hope P.O's not in da house

To be honest this is going off anything sports related but as far as I am aware, there has been about 10 kids pulled in for questioning on this since it happened.

What the fuck are the parents of these kids doing cos I can tell you if mines were pulled in for something like this they would be better of staying in the police cells cos I would get it out of them what happened one way or another.

Thats at least 10 adults, max 20, whose kids have been thought to have some sort of knowledge or involvement and not one of them has managed to lead the police onto to more information.

No fucking morales, the lot of them IMO.

Yeah , it's the best and the worst of the city rolled up in one crowie. We all know how sentimental the scousers can be and it's genuine enough IMO. The pudlians were gutted at work last week about all this but as a manc I wasn't as suprised, maybe it's because shootings happen all the time in Manchester although most of the victims were mixed up with drugs etc..
A nice gesture without doubt though and hats off to them, as for the perps of this crime , I think they should be publicly flogged as an example

No conflict here ODM.
I“m not a PC person and would be pissed off if anyone thought I was.
I like to see fair play is all.
Massive difference.

Re: Z-Cars at Anfield tonight

The parents of murdered Merseyside youngster Rhys Jones today sent heartfelt thanks to Liverpool supporters and declared: "You have done your club and the city proud."
Stephen and Melanie Jones, along with son Owen, stood at the side of the pitch before Tuesday's Champions League qualifier against Toulouse as their son's favourite 'Z-Cars' anthem was played inside the stadium for the first time in his memory.

"I was really taken aback once we were there, but up until then, I wasn't sure it was the right thing to do," said Melanie.

"It was only when Owen said he had been talking to people from both the Blues and the Reds over the internet and that they all wanted us to go that I was convinced.

"And Liverpool were really amazing with us. They were fantastic from start to finish."

Mr Jones added: "We were picked up by our police family liaison officer and, as we were driving to the ground, we were given a few looks.

"But when we got out of the car, we were given a massive round of applause by everyone. It knocked us back. It was just the most amazing thing.

"When we got to pitchside, the noise was deafening. We couldn't even hear Z Cars being played but my brother assured me it was.

"Then afterwards we met David Moores and Rick Parry and I just told them their fans had done Liverpool - the city and the club - proud. It really was so moving for us.

"Both Rafa and his wife, as well as Steven Gerrard, came and gave us their condolences.

"These people didn't have to go out of their way to talk to us, but they did. They were just as fantastic as the fans."
