The Open Championship 2007 - Carnoustie

Quite looking forward to this, I do like me golf.

Watched the play off yesterday between Mickleson and Havret and I hope we're set for a finish on a par with that. Gripping stuff it really was, great recovery shot on the play off from Mickleson who looked dead and buried after a wayward tee.

Anyway - anyone know the lowdown on how this year's course is playing?

I fancy the groundstaff will try and fasion a very unAmerican course, so it will rely on accuracy rather than being able to thump the ball 400 yards off the tee.

Tidy European players would be my incling for this year. As I remember, back in '99 (Jean van de velde et al) the course played like an absolute dog. Fairways were tricky to hit and the short priced Americans didnt get a sniff.

Luke Donald had a tidy round yesterday, might have a wee interest on him if I get around 30's+

Anyone else got any fancies?

Re: The Open Championship 2007 - Carnoustie

As its a links course its already very un-american afu - and you're right that accuracy will be the order of the day rather than some big biffs from the driver(although given how accurate Els was with his driver yesterday those players could still prosper.)

The forecast isn't too good apparently - it'll always be windy there and add in a bit of rain and it could make for a fairly unpleasant week for a few if they don't fancy it.

Mickelson played terribly yesterday - shocking course management taking the driver(which he'd missed virtually every fairway with) on the 18th and then again in the playoff, finding trouble both times, when a simple dab onto the fairway would have sufficed.

After a long European winner drought(last time in a major was back at Carnoustie in '99 with Paul Lawrie) I too think this could be the year for another.

I agree Beanie. Tight fairways and horrible scottish weather will make it difficult for the yanks I think. Neat and tidy is the order of the day I feel.
