City Takeover
Just looking at Thaksin Shinawatra in wikipedea, he's the guy looking to buy city.

Quote:

By the time Thaksin was born, the Shinawatra family was one of the richest and most influential families in Chiang Mai.

Business
Quote:
Thaksin and his wife ventured into several businesses while Thaksin was still in the police force. These included opening a silk shop, opening a movie theatre, and developing an apartment building. All of these ventures were failures, and left him over 50 million Baht in debt. He established ICSI in 1982, which leased computers to government agencies and was a modest success. However, later ventures in security systems (SOS) and public bus radio services (Bus Sound) were failures.[13][14] In April 1986, he founded Advanced Info Service (AIS), which started off as a computer rental business.[15]
In 1987, after resigning from the police force, he marketed a Thai romance drama called "Baan Sai Thong",[16] which became a popular success in theaters.[17] In 1988 he joined with Pacific Telesis to operate and market the PacLink pager service, which was a modest success, although Thaksin later sold out his stake in PacLink to establish his own paging company.[13][18] In 1989 Thaksin launched IBC, a cable television company, which lost money and was later acquired by the CP Group's UTV.[13][19] In 1989, Thaksin established a data networking service, Shinawatra DataCom, which was a failure.[13] It is today known as Advanced Data Network, and is owned by AIS and the TOT.[20]
In October 1990, Advanced Info Service launched analog mobile phone services after receiving a concession from the Telephone Organization of Thailand. AIS was listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand in November 1991. AIS became the largest mobile phone operator in Thailand.
The Shinawatra Computer and Communications Group was founded in 1987 and listed in The Stock Exchange of Thailand in 1990.
In 1990, Thaksin founded Shinawatra Satellite, which has developed and operated a total of four Thaicom satellites.
In 2000, Thaksin acquired the ailing iTV television station from the Crown Property Bureau, Nation Multimedia Group, and Siam Commercial Bank.[21][22]

Politics
Quote:
As Prime Minister, Thaksin Shinawatra initiated many distinctive policies affecting the economy, public health, education, energy, drugs, and international relations. He gained two landslide re-election victories.[32] Thaksin's policies have been particularly effective at alleviating rural poverty[33] and at providing affordable health coverage to the people. Because of this, his main support base has been the rural poor.[34]
His Cabinet was packed with academics, former student leaders, and former leaders of the Phalang Dharma party, including Prommin Lertsuridej, Chaturon Chaisang, Prapat Panyachatraksa, Surapong Suebwonglee, Somkid Jatusripitak, Surakiart Sathirathai, and Sudarat Keyuraphan.
However, his government has been frequently challenged with allegations of dictatorship, demagogy, corruption, conflicts of interest, human rights offences, acting undiplomatically, the use of legal loopholes and hostility towards a free press. A controversial leader, he has also been the target of numerous allegations of lèse-majesté, treason, usurping religious and royal authority, selling assets to international investors, religious desecration, and siding with the forces of darkness.[35][36]

The guy won landslide victories , he's born into money had failed businesses , made a fortune . City will be a bit of fun for him it seems, I just cant see it , City arise from the shadow of their more famous neighbours thanks to the exiled ex- Thai prime minister business man. Not exactly a shining armour, ahh fuk it we'll see I suppose

Re: City Takeover
I did some digging on him a while back Keem. He was interested in Liverpool at the time, along with every other billionaire and I remember thinking he was a bit dodgy. Loads of people were in favour of it because it would provide us with cash and a way into the Asian market. Cant imagine the guy is all that popular over there now, seeing as he was the victim of a military coup and all that.
Sounds like an interesting Character though keem:

With all that going on, where will he find the time to run the club?

Re: City Takeover
Well someone's pulling the string somewhere.
We've Sacked Wigley and Woan , let a few players go including Sinclair and Beasley.
This is more than interesting , it#s from the FT and it seems to be saying he has money , he says it's all in Thailand so may not be able to get at it, however if he buys us WITHOUT his Thai money that means he's been sithering money abroad illegally.

Thaksin Shinawatra, Thailand's exiled former prime minister, is close to making a formal bid for Manchester City, the UK football club, and is understood to have identified a new manager for the Premier League side.
An announcement from both parties is expected “within days” according to people close to the deal.
Bangkok’s media has been speculating as to whether Mr Thaksin, who was deposed in a military coup last year, would be able to release funds held in local banks. But it is understood that Mr Thaksin is funding the bid from private assets and has lodged monies for the bid with his financial advisers, to the satisfaction of Manchester’s board.

It's looking like Ranieri too

Re: City Takeover
I dont know Keem, Van Gaal's odds have shortened a whole lot, and they keep coming in, if we got him we would definitely be playing attacking football.
I dont like the sound of this thai guy one bit, I really dont want him to take us over.

Just heard that Thaksin Shinawatra has had his bank accounts frozen in Thailand.
Only city could do this

Thats a shame. You've always had a feeling of doubt this would never go through though.
So who we got now? Mike Newell next manager?

Manchester City want assurances from former Thailand Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra that he still has the money to buy the club, after £750m worth of his assets were frozen in his home country (Various).

I think that's precisely why Liverpool took a good, hard look at him and decided against it.
He was diposed in a military coup, it is openly 'accepted' that he oversaw human rights abuses and his financial background is murkier still.
I think City would do well to stay well clear.

Re: City Takeover
Big Sam doesnt seem impressed by the City board.....
Quote:
Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce is furious with Manchester City over a cash dispute which is holding up Joey Barton's £5.5m move to St James' Park.
The transfer has been stalled by a row over a £300,000 pay-off which Barton, 24, was contractually entitled to if he was sold without requesting a transfer.
City are refusing to pay out because Barton was not forced to leave.
And Allardyce said: "They're out of order. I'm flabbergasted and want the situation resolved." Barton's agent Willie Mckay has referred the matter to the Professional Footballers' Association, but Allardyce is desperate to get the issue resolved as soon as possible
|
Im with City tbh , why pay the thug a leaving bonus ?
And as for his agent , he seems a total dick , some of the stuff he`s came out with over the last two year or so .

Re: City Takeover
Noel Gallagher was on 5-Live last night and was behaving like a typical city fan. Any other fans would be doing their nut at this, but he took it in good humour.
No other club could manage a balls up like this. 4 weeks or so away from pre-season, you have a chairman that wants out, no manager, half a squad and no clear plan.
You can kiss good bye to the likes of Van Gaal for this season at least. There's no way he would want to be associated with City in their current state.

Re: City Takeover
It's a tragedy but what can you do , mu hunch is that they will bin the Thai today , hunt for a second rate manager and hope for the best. Wardle is promising at least a 30mil warchest so that's something I suppose

Heres hoping...
I have a few cheeky wee bets on the following as next manager....
Souness @ 65.00
Jewell @ 34.00
Warnock @ 85.00
I have no idea why i never went with Coleman. I remember him being 100.00+ and now he is favourite.
Come on the second rate managers

Re: City Takeover
Aye the whole episode has City written all over it.
The general concensus of opinion no matter what happens Kiko is that City will opt for a foreign manager and i still believe they will.
£30 mill plus no doubt £5 mill from the Barton sale will still get a few decent managers interested.
As for your list Kiko two of those finished below Pearce this yr and i cannot see the fans being happy if City pick Souness, Coleman like u say is probably pick of the bunch if they do go British or maybe Mark Hughes if he would accept the job.
