Re: Tiger Woods is a 'special needs'

It's just the mentality of the single slightest tiniest thing being picked up on and a huge big deal being made of it. Do you think Tiger Woods hates handicapped people ? Do you think he goes round mocking them ? Do you think he dislikes them ? I reckon he's probably indifferent and when being asked a question just said the first word that came into his head.
Of course none of us would ever use a word like spaz, mong, windae licker ever now would we ?
I really don't see any genunine attempt to offend or spreading of hate or anything there at all. Perhaps wasn't the best word to use but there were plenty worse ones.
Also which words are offensive to people seem to change. I mean how often do people use the word "niggah" ? Constanly used in rap songs etc but if it's said by someone who is black it's ok for some reason. Why is that ?
If it was a handicapped person playing golf and saying he played like a spaz would that be ok ?
Of course when some fanatical religious nutter wishes to preach to young people and turn them into suicide bombers and people object their powers of "free speech" etc are of course defended.
Obviously with being a famous sportsman comes responsibility etc as you influence so many people, especially young people but I see it as he just didn't use the best word, unfortunate but I don't see any real malice behind it. Singers/rappers with similar influence of course don't seem to bother what they say but do they get pulled for it ? Plenty other bigger deals people could be paying attention to !

Re: Tiger Woods is a 'special needs'

I should add that the word "Spaz" is not considered anywhere near as offensive as it is in the UK.

The missus lived in the US for a while and it is considered to be on a par with "idiot" or "fool" whereas in the UK we treat it much more seriously.

Seeing as Tiger is from America I think its fair to say that he is surrounded by people who use this word on a regular basis and he is from a society where using this word isnt really an issue.

hence why the report is from bbc.CO.UK and not NBC. Once again a PC world gone mad.

Re: Tiger Woods is a 'special needs'

Have to agree with Alien, why the double standards? Rap stars, rock stars and even movie stars use derogetory language all the time in the context of their so called "art" and hardly a word ever gets mentioned. Why? Tiger Woods has done more for the less fortunate kids of America than Emenem or 50 cent or any of the hate preachers that call themselves artists ever will. One small slip of the tounge should not cloud in any way all the good work Tiger has done so far.
Im not even a huge Tiger fan but feel this is another case of "political correctness gone mad"
