K we need to get a bit back on track. Has anyone any thoughts or ideas? I might as well start jotting some things down

- poker league and tournies
- some prize competitions
- regular newsletter
- more partner links

Inter forum tipping competitions - something which benefits both forums, coz it encourages participation...bit o banter...and some rivalry

Mind you, dont bother asking the forums who are blinkered,

and most of the old ones are

....their afraid to embrace new forums, scared shite of their own shadow

...

Offer members a Daily Punt email address (after so many posts perhaps)

Support a Charity

and donate a fiver for every bookie account opened

i would agree on them both Winrew. We do need more mods. Thats not anything against the mods or (supermods) we have its just we do need more mods. Man look at WW forum

I tried a few charities Merlin as per the 'Computer Guy' thread but they wouldnt touch a gambling site. The inter forum challenge i something i am gonna sort and i will sort it this week. How will we run it? I'll ask on the threads in Poker. Thing is though no forum would touch it as they will see it as just being a thing that TDP wins no matter what (i mean by way of forum promotion)

Put mebers of TDP into teams on registration (by some unknown criteria - randomly)..and have team comps

Encourage Full Footy or Racing Previews to be written - digg the fcukers, give article writers their own section, and post the previews there as well as on the forum - encourage betting activity based on the article...

Have a dating forum with uploaded profiles/pics

Ive been trying the previews idea for ages Merlin but it's hard enough just to get folks to post never mind do a preview

I had a section on the frontpage just like the Racing Post where i would try and encourage folks to have their own 'coloumns' no one was interested. Maybe in time they will be. You just can't get decent posters these days no offence to anyone. I think TDP is still a year or so away from that but i appreciate the suggestions

Regarding the dating i do want to make member profiles top notch and add a betting record in there with stats and charts etc. Finding it hard though. trying for nearly 2 years. Maybe someday soon TDP management will get their arse into gear and do it. Some other forum will read this and beat us to it though

Get some SEO done on your main page:

Your PR is 2, it should be 4 or 5...

Things you can do to improve it, and get more SERPS traffic...

Arguably, your description tag is too long by about 50 letters....

You only have 10 keywords, you should increase that to about 20 (no more than 20)..

The words you should try and reduce which are currently there:

2008 (36 times)
April (24 times)
Story (30 times)
Read (49 times)

The above keywords are useless, they appear too many times on the main page....

You possibly have too many urls on the main page, currently ,393 urls, try and split them in half, and put the 50% of them on another page.....

Remove the swear words from the main page....you almost def got a penalty for that...

I take it that SEO stands for Search engine optimization.
Not my area of expertise , but an interesting post Merlin.
Komp Mick and Slick are the lads for that sort of thing , be nice to see what they think about it.

aye thanks Merlin. Ive been struggling on with it. Its been left to me and ive been trying to learn what i can and i really appreciate the guidance.

The swear words must be coming from the forum. Im importing some fourms and ive always be scared of duplicate content so maybe best to cut back on that.

I belive our google pr is now back to 4 (it was 5) it maybe showing on google toolbar as 2 still though but thats lagging. I can get rid of them april 2008 keywords by not importing i think. I thought 10 kywords was fine but i will have a look into it. Im targeting a few keywords but havent had a chance to really do it. As you can see from the coloum in the middle that needs finished. Holy fcuk where did we get 393 urls from? I will need to look at that then.

whos responsible for fcuking farce? Sounds like a few of us. Actually Merlin thanks very much. Much appreciated. If you want my list of 'dodgy joomla download sites' i will get them together for you. Got some crackers there. Shame we dont use joomla now. I have mentioned to slick about vbdrupal which sounds interesting mind.

Thanks for the input Merlin, much appreciated. Most of those links are from rss feeds and go back to tdp content which is good for seo, I agree though that we should cut down on the ones that don't unless they have good pr's and recipricate the links.
we were pr5 but with all the development that has been going on for the last 6 months or so we lost the lot, for a while we had no front page whatsoever, I'm quite sure the way things are laid put now we will soon get it back.

If you want a tdp email addy then just send me the password you require and i'll set u one up m8.

Ask Members to a write a keyword rich testimonial/reccomendation/review of The Daily Punt... and put the testimonial links on the front page (Google spiders are sharp to pick-up words like testimonial and feedback)...

Even better than that is to try and get them published on different domains (not the daily punt), like, independent websites, blogs and social network websites...

If your up for it, I will write a testimonial for The Daily Punt, and you reciprocate for me

...

Goes without saying these types of back links are valuable - in terms of search and link juice...
