Re: BBC Sports Personality of The Year 2007

Yesterday's Bettingzone Market News:

1455: As decision time for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award approaches, punters are betting that long time favourite Lewis Hamilton could be caught and passed by Ricky Hatton as they come to the chequered flag.

"Ricky is all the rage both to beat Floyd Mayweather and then to lift the Sports Personality Award within hours of each other," said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe.

"At one time Ricky was a 25/1 chance, but a sustained gamble has forced his odds right down to 5/2 second favourite, while Lewis, once almost unbackable at 1/10, is now as long as 4/9 albeit still holding on to favouritism."

Latest William Hill odds for BBC TV Sports Personality of the Year Award: 4/9 Lewis Hamilton, 5/2 Ricky Hatton, 6/1 Joe Calzaghe, 20/1 Paula Radcliffe, 50/1 Christine Ohuruogu, Justin Rose and Jonny Wilkinson, 80/1 Andy Murray, 100/1 Jason Robinson, 100/1 James Toseland.

Re: BBC Sports Personality of The Year 2007

Who fuckin cares what William HIll' spokesman thinks. I've never understood the logic of listening to Bookies thoughts on what to back. Paddy Power entertains me with his lilting voice and the way he chats like a bloke over a few beers but I wouldn't put my money on anything because of his thougts.

It's like your dentist recommending which seaside town to buy your sticks of rock from.

Hamilton is going to win. End of.

Re: BBC Sports Personality of The Year 2007

I've had a few punts come in because I've read Bettingzone Market Moves/News but I haven't managed to land any big gambles from it.

I suppose it's almost inarguable that Lewis Hamilton will do so (it will take nothing less than a Ricky Hatton win against Floyd Mayweather for Ricky to win it).

It doesn't stop any betting on who'll finish second in the 'without Lewis Hamilton' market though. I'm very annoyed I didn't get on the 'evens' that was available on Ricky Hatton but 4/6 isn't too bad. I'd be stunned with all this hype if Joe Calzaghe manages to finish second but it wouldn't be too undeserved.

I'm nuts...£100 on Ricky Hatton at 4/6 to win SPotY 'without Lewis Hamilton' over at Boyle Sports and Coral's (two £50 singles each if you will).

Bet365's 'without Lewis Hamilton' market:

Ricky Hatton 4/7
Joe Calzaghe 12/5
Paula Radcliffe 8/1
Johnny Wilkinson 35/1
Jason Robinson 35/1
Justin Rose 75/1
Christine Ohuruogu 75/1
James Toseland 75/1
Andrew Murray 100/1

Boyle Sports' 'betting without Lewis Hamilton' market:

Hatton, Ricky 4/6
Calzaghe, Joe 11/5
Radcliffe, Paula 6/1
Wilkinson, Johnny 25/1
Rose, Justin 33/1
Ohuruogu, Christine 33/1
Murray, Andrew 50/1
Robinson, Jason 50/1
Toseland, James 66/1

Coral's 'betting without Lewis Hamilton' market:

Ricky Hatton 4/6
Joe Calzaghe 5/2
Paula Radcliffe 6/1
Christine Ohuruogu 25/1
Justin Rose 25/1
Jason Robinson 33/1
Jonny Wilkinson 33/1
Andy Murray 66/1
James Toseland 66/1

Paddy Power's 'betting without Lewis Hamilton' market:

Ricky Hatton 4 - 7
Joe Calzaghe 12 - 5
Paula Radcliffe 6 - 1
Jonny Wilkinson 33 - 1
Jason Robinson 40 - 1
Christine Ohuruogu 50 - 1
Justin Rose 66 - 1
Andy Murray 66 - 1
James Toseland 66 - 1

OT: Joe Calzaghe's backing Ricky Hatton to win SPotY.

Re: BBC Sports Personality of The Year 2007

I'm off to bed but being one who's not scared to nail my colours to the mast I'd like to say one final time that there is no way thay Ricky Hatton is going to win SPOTY and that anyone who thingk that there is has been taken in by the hype.

When you think about the hysteria that's been whipped up over the Hatton fight,it just beggers belief. I've heard people who've never seen a punch thrown in ager talking about what the ref's going to do if this happens or if that happens. Nobody gave a fuck about boxing last week and they won't give a fuck about it next week when Hatton has had his ass kicked.

Back him without LH fair enough. Just don't expect him to win it.

Thank you and good night

I've had a fiver on Hatton @ 11's, he's been having a laff since getting beat on the telly and radio all day and could sneak the sympathy vote here imo.

Re: BBC Sports Personality of The Year 2007

Lewis Hamilton opens the show at 1.15, drifts to 1.33 when lines close, and gets beaten by Calzaghe - yet another hot favourite beaten in the SPOTY market after Clarke last year! Can't help but think thats the right result - Hamilton will win SPOTY if/when he wins the world title.

Re: BBC Sports Personality of The Year 2007

Wow...That is fucking great.

About time we honoured sports personalities who have actually achieved something and aren't giving this to silly sports or to runners up.

World champion for 10 years...Enough said really.

Re: BBC Sports Personality of The Year 2007

Yip, would have got my vote anyday of the week but i didnt think he would do it as he doesnt get the hype he deserves, well done Calzaghe as it wouldent have been fair had it gone to a loser allthough with all the recent press i half expected Hatton to get the nod.

Just wished i had layed Hamilton now @ those silly odds.

Re: BBC Sports Personality of The Year 2007

Hmmm. I wonder if last year's voting figures were released?

Annoyed I didn't have a saver bet on Joe Calzaghe.

I suppose I should have noticed some late odds movement over at William Hill when they made Joe 5/2 on Sunday afternoon. I suppose the bigger clue was that they had the award out in Las Vegas ready to give to Joe!

I thought the BBC might have saved this for next year if he beats Bernard Hopkins. I can't imagine him winning it two years in a row but hey, if nobody else does anything next year it'd be hard to deny him the award again.

It's an Olympic year so who knows?

  • Was just thinking there, the best type of "fuck off " is the following; You`re playing astro, 5 a side, someone shouts "handball" and the "fuck off" response is fucking class.
