BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2011
Monday's Bettingzone Market News:
1500: Another line to come as a result of that overnight win for Andy Murray (against Guillermo García-López) is that he's hardened as favourite for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award. Bodog are determined to keep on the right side of Murray - they are as short as 3/1 about him winning the gong after he breezed into the quarter-finals of the Australian Open (more details below). Sportingbet will give you 5/1 about Murray, who would be considered a hot favourite were he to end Great Britain's wait for Grand Slam title at any stage this year. "It looks a very weak SPOTY market this year," said Bodog's Nick Gray. "Murray might only need a strong showing here, Wimbledon and New York to land it. "Right now Murray's playing as well as anyone and that includes potential semi-final opponent Rafa Nadal who he overcame here last year in the quarters." ============= The odds right now as Rafael Nadal is two sets down against David Ferrer in the last Australian Open quarter-final have Andy Murray moving into 3/1 and less ATB. I reckon i'd want at least 16/1 before i'd even consider Murray. |

Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2011
David Haye is best priced @ 9/1 Corals and as short as 5/1 with two others.
Is that 9/1 big or is he going to lose to one of the Klitschko brothers? |

Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2011
Prices right now:
Rory McIlroy 4/1 (Coral) Andy Murray 7/1 (Boylesports/Sky Bet) David Haye 8/1 (Boylesports/Coral) Jessica Ennis 8/1 (Betfred) Lewis Hamilton 14/1 (Betfred) Lee Westwood 20/1 (Bet365/Betfred) Amir Khan 25/1 ((Bet365/Betfred/Boylesports) Chris Ashton 25/1 (Boylesports/Sky Bet) If Rory McIlroy wins tonight that of course, sets the standard. Only David Haye beating Wladimir Klitshcko (I don't think he can but quite a few suggest Haye will beat him) and/or perhaps a win for England in the Rugby World Cup with Chris Ashton as a focal point are capable of challenging him. |

Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2011
Having won a decent amount of money on Giggs SPOTY 2009 at 66-1 I am a SPOTY enthusiast.
As has been mentioned already there is no real competition this year. Of the 70ish Sports people listed on the price comparison websites I can easily rule out 65 of them. People mentioned in this thread so far: Murray: To win SPOTY you need to actually win something or do something significant during that year, it should not be good enough for Murray to win SPOTY if he just 'does well' in a few tournaments, he needs to WIN one. As for his personality.....YAWN. David Haye: Even if he beats Klitchko he has no chance of winning SPOTY people like Tom Daley, Beth Tweddle, Mark Cavendish finished miles ahead of him in the 2009 votes (the year he defeated the giant) Others: Cricket Players: No Chance! Rugby Players: Not unless England win the World Cup which looks unlikely. F1 Drivers: No Chance, this is Vettels. The Sports People with a chance: Jessica Ennis: Has won 2 Golds in the last two years. The world championships are later this year and she should win. Has been very popular amongst SPOTY voters, finishing 3rd for past 2 years. Lee Westwood: In and out of world no.1, needs to be no.1 at end of year and probably win a major to have a chance. Luke Donald: Playing awesome, always there or thereabouts in tournaments this year, just won Wentworth, World No.1. I think it will be between the above 3 (Probably worth at least a £10er on each at this stage) Ennis 7-1, Westwood 20-1, Donald 25-1. Others that are a possibility: (I know you will laugh at some of these) Mark Cavendish: Quite a few votes for him in 2009 considering he's in a fairly minor sport. Could get the green jersey this year but Ennis will definately beat him to SPOTY if she takes gold. Phil Taylor: I do not really follow darts, I think he's having a bad year though. Think the major comps have gone tits-up for him so I think thats game over? I only mention his name as he came 2nd last year with a fair few votes. Paul Scholes: A legend, won his 10th ? PL title, has retired today which could work against him as he will have only been around half the year but could also work in his favor as he may now get talked about a lot, may get an OBE etc. I understand that peoples response to Scholes name being mentioned would be its because of his career not the past year but my response would be Giggs and McCoy both won it with their careers in mind. Alex Ferguson: A legend another PL title, yes this is another career based personality. I just feel that with the competition this year being crap then if Fergie gets into the final 10 then everyone will vote for him cos he's such a legend. There is no1 else worth mentioning, so that my lot. As it stand I think Jess Ennis may get it. Depends if Luke or Lee can get a major under their belts. Let me hear what you think..... |

Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2011
Today's Bettingzone Market News:
1400: Jessica Ennis is the current 4/1 favourite with William Hill to win the BBC Sports Personality of the Year. Ennis who has been out injured for two months, marked her comeback by falling just 41 points short of Denise Lewis' heptathlon British record in Austria at the weekend as she claimed a commanding victory in Gotzis. A world championship gold medal is the key goal for Ennis later this summer as she continues her build-up to next year's Olympics. Andy Murray is 5/1 having already reached a Grand Slam final this year and David Haye is 6/1 ahead of his bout with Wladimir Klitschko in July. Sebastian Vettel looks uncatchable in the F1 Drivers Championship and Lewis Hamilton has slipped in the betting for SPOTY, because of this from 5/1 to 8/1. "In a year without a major football tournament, the betting for SPOTY is always incredibly tight. Looking forward to the rest of year, there are still many sporting events to come and many more sportsmen and women who can perform their way into the running," said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly. |

Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2011
Andy Murray is not in good enough form to win a grand slam.
Not sure why Jess Ennis went from 3rd favorite to first when nothing has really happend in the past 12 hours. Hopefully Murray will win his match and this will change back and Ennis will be at least 7-1 as I plan to place £10 on: Jess Ennis, Westwood, Donald and Scholes then I can only win. As it will be one of these 4 who will win SPOTY. Everyone do the same. Jess Ennis should be back to 7-1 soon £10 = £40 profit Westwood 20-1 = £170 profit Donald 25-1 = £220 profit Scholes 80-1 = £770 profit. You cannot lose. If you just want to focus on one person Jessica Ennis is the one to wack your dosh on, only an injury will let her down. |

Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2011
I've just backed Mo Farah, 3pts @ 100/1 Betfred
He's just broken the European 10,000 meters record in Oregon against a class field. It's his second win in under a week after taking the Bupa London event on Monday. Mo Farah breaks European 10,000m record in Diamond League meeting | Sport | guardian.co.uk He's heading for the world championships in August. I know that the olympics are next year and he probably has more chance then but I do think 100/1 is a massive price here and i've backed him with the belief that he will shorten to a lay price of under 12/1 at some point (possibly August) for the 2011 SPotY Award. |

Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2011
can you get him ew anywhere? that price is amazing but it's jess ennis's year as long as she stops fit.
Mo for a place would be a great bet if he's in good form. at the world's though he has to beat all the ethiopians and kenyans. |

Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2011
I'm not sure about the e.w Rob,
Sky sports said it was a decent field that he beat and if he's just broken the European record then he must be fancied to pick up a medal in the world championships in August. I just think he's far more likely to shorten than drift, it's a big trade price imo. |
