Re: Sports Personality of the Year 2010
I fancy an English footballer - but that's another story
![]() I don't think the sour-faced Scottish twat stands a chance if our brave England footballers pull off their usual trick of being shite, underperforming but somehow managing to scrape through to the semis to be beaten on penalties. Heroic failure rules dontchaknow. JT is fucked with his revelations about fucking Bridge's missis, plus stories of him selling tours around Stamford Bridge for his own gain plus the other four stories that will come out sullying his name between now and the world cup - gotta luv the good old British press. I'm not saying any of them are true but that's not the point. I know people with no personality have won this before but Murray or Terry stand head and shoulders below most other humans when it comes to measuring personality. Fuck me, I'd rather have a beer with Marcel Marceau than have to talk to either of those twats for half an hour. Bore you shitless they would. So, Mr Rooney is my pick at the prices available. England could win the twelve nations (or whatever they are this year) but it will all be forgotten by the time the voting comes around whereas the world cup will not grow old, as we who are left grow old. |

Re: Sports Personality of the Year 2010
Let's not forget that Rooney could well have won the Premierhip title and/or the champions league as well as whatever happens with England whereas Steven Gerrard on the other hand

Re: Sports Personality of the Year 2010
Khan for me i think in lasts years one i brought him up after the nominees had been picked, But if England by any chance win the world cup then it will be one of them guys. Phil taylor no chance at all i would lay him every year, BBC wont nominate him as he's in PDC if he was in BDO he would of won it allready.

Re: Sports Personality of the Year 2010
If the scot Murray wins a Grand Slam then because he'll be the first British Male to win 1 for 70'odd years he'll skate it - if he doesn't then he won't win it.
What Winter Olympic future Champions do we have lurking out there ? another Torville and Dean maybe ? probably no fecking chance of getting a medal but if they do win a Gold then again will no doubt stand them in good stead |

Possibly, IF England are shite at the world cup that is. If they win it, or even get to the final then you can forget every other sport Kegman. You just need to be realistic. Murray can win three grand slams and find a cure for cancer and he'll still have no fucking chance. |

Agree but who do you give it to ? The person who scored the winning goal ? Someone who scored the dodgy hat-trick that never was....... JT to score the winning penalty and win it 11-10 and his Mrs and Family to all run and hug him - now that would be a cert They'd get the team award but they'd all be heroes and get MBEs, OBEs etc etc and women would be queing up to kiss the cox of the winning team........... |

Re: Sports Personality of the Year 2010
If England have a poor world cup then I'd say Murray is a very very strong favourite even if he just gets to finals of grand slams and doesnt win one. The price reflects that but the danger of someone coming out of the woodwork (plus the outside chance of an England world cup shock) makes that the sort of price that only an idiot would take in February.
I can't remember from the last thread how it's voted for. If it's members of the public then there could be a huge protest vote from north of the border to try to make sure that an england footballer doesnt win it. Plus the danger of Chelsea/United/Liverpool fans not wanting to vote for a rival player. All that aside, the English don't give a fuck about tennis except for two weeks in summer (or, usually, about a week to be more accurate). Then they'd cheer any muppet with a vaguely English connection. A public schoolboy they'd otherwise be throwing stones at, a Canadian, fuck me, even a Scot!!! I don't live in a big county but I'd be willing to bet that more people play football regularly in it than play tennis in the whole of the country. The BBC and radio five live may give the impression that the country is full of tennis fanatics....it's bollox. Only football matters and anyone who votes for anyone but a footballer needs to be aware that they are betting on England to fail in South Africa. Come to think of it....that doesn't sound like a bad idea ![]() |

Re: Sports Personality of the Year 2010
What strikers are on the fringes of the England squad ?
I'm thinking, a couple of injuries to any of Defoe, Rooney, Crouch or Heskey and there could be a golden opportunity for a surprise/late inclusion of a form player who then goes on to get a few goals (or even just one crucial goal) at the World Cup. If England were to make it to the latter stages on the back of these goals, then we may have a surprise winner. Carlton Cole Theo Walcott Darren Bent Gabriel Agbonlahor Anyone think of any others ? |

Re: Sports Personality of the Year 2010
No one think Beckhams a decent shout?
Your counting on England winning/doing very well in the world cup but it wouldn't surprise me in the way Giggs won it last year even though he only started 12 games. It is more as what they have done for the game etc rather than their seasons play (which is what it should be judged on imo). Also Milan coming to play Man Utd too could help his cause depending how he plays. I'd be taken either him or Rooney. |

Re: Sports Personality of the Year 2010
BBC Sport - Vancouver 2010 - British slider Amy Williams wins Olympic skeleton gold
Amy Williams won the women's skeleton this morning/last night (she won the first Winter Olympics individual gold medal since Robin Cousins 30 years ago) is now 16/1 fourth favourite over at William Hill and a skinnier 9/1 over at Bet365. Nine other places left on the shortlist. ![]() Far too early to actually be the winner though. |

Re: Sports Personality of the Year 2010
A woman who looks like a bloke sliding down a hill on a tea tray? I don't fucking think so.
People will have forgotted her name by the time the voting comes around. No, scratch that, they will have forgotten about her by next Thursday. |

Re: Sports Personality of the Year 2010
This is the reason why the bookies love these markets - taking a heap of stray tenners on complete non runners like Williams in the 24 hours after their success which puts them a few k to the good before the proper betting action even starts in December.
