Re: Sports Personality of the Year 2010
Christ that's huge, i would of thought McCoy would of had a similar number to Giggs last year but that's nearly double!

Well I'm not one to say I told you so Kop but if you look up this thread, you'll find this response to doubts about where the votes for McCoy are going to come from.

Re: Sports Personality of the Year 2010
Surprised by how easy it was for Tony McCoy. Not surprised in the least David Haye finished last of ten.
Have to feel for golf. The year Paul Lawrie won the British Open he didn't finish in the shortlist of six. Graeme McDowell finishes FIFTH and behind Lee Westwood!? Absolutely absurd. Lee's world number one golfer by consistency (top 5 finishes in the major golf events) and by default imo. Will be saving my money for most of 2011 on an assault for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2012 which will (barring her not winning Olympic gold) go to Jessica Ennis. If England somehow win the European Championships, it's still only the European Championships. |

Re: Sports Personality of the Year 2010
apologies for grammar etc but it takes too long on iphone
like I've said before mate if England win a major championship - unlikely as that seems at the moment - you can forget everything else and that includes the olympics. The votes would dwarf those of yesterday and even if there were two footballers in direct competition with each other, the number of votes would dwarf yesterdays and no other sport would stan a cat in hells chance. |

Re: Sports Personality of the Year 2010
You can't say that with much certainty ODM(I'm sure you'll tell me you can and just did.) Provided she stays injury free her profile will be massive going into 2012, and she would be the face of a summer of Olympic sporting success, in the biggest sporting event GB has ever seen.
Both are unprecedented in SPOTY terms, and both would get such huge voting numbers that they would make even McCoys total this year look pitiful, but it would depend on the make up of the ten as to which came out on top. If England did win the euros in the London Olympic year I don't even know how they would narrow it down to a 10. (how about a Murray Wimbledon win to really make it interesting...?) |

Re: Sports Personality of the Year 2010
The only way that Murray could win is if the population of Scotland made a concerted effort to fuck up England's Euro winning team (and I wouldn't blame them if they did).
Football eclipses everything in this country. Everything! I know the BBC and the government would have you believe the Olympics are massive but ask people who you know (outside of London) and most of them probably won't give a flying fuck about it -London or no. And in the same way that Mcdowell has somehow got most of the credit for winning the Ryder Cup just because he was spawny enough to be the one to sink the last putt, if Rooney were to score the winner in the Euro final, you might as well not even bother with a shortlist. |

Re: Sports Personality of the Year 2010
We'll agree to disagree on that one then. Thankfully it's a moot point because we're almost certainly not going to see that situation. And yes, re: Murray I was referring to the fact that the entire nation would spend every penny of their London sent giros to get him the win.

Re: Sports Personality of the Year 2010
As I said, I wouldnt blame them if they did given the prospect of having it rammed down their throats for the next fifty years and yes, youre right there is no chance of it happening anyway
