A bet that is basically a sewn up winner (Maybe)
Hello Guys and Girls
I have got a bet that i noticed ages ago and though it was cracking value before i read the news and (i think) its basically in the bag. Skybet - What will happen in 2010? Jedward to get own show on terrestrial TV 8/1 They have been confirmed to have signed up to a fly on the wall reality TV show with itv2. (Don't believe me check it out on the net) Now what does terrestrial TV mean? It basically means a signal through the air from a antenna. And on the lovely wickipedia it states that itv2 is available on terrestrial TV. And i checked my set in the bedroom which picks it up fine. I think its a winner and i am on it already. This may cause a row with them but i am up for that. Good Luck and Merry Christmas to all. |

Re: A bet that is basically a sewn up winner (Maybe)
Update for you all. I went into my account today to have a look at some of my up coming bets. And would you believe it they have changed my bet. They have added the condition that it is on 1,2,itv,4.
Lucky for me i print screen any shady bets just for such a moment i then had the following conversation. Hello. I placed a bet with skybet on the following Jedward to get own show on terrestrial TV. However when i have now checked my original bet it has now been changed by you. You have added extra conditions to the bet stating it is on (1,2,itv,4). You are not allowed to change the conditions of the bet after i placed it. 16:22:35 ok can I take your user ID please? 16:22:46 XXXXXXXXXXXXXX 16:26:46 bear with me a moment I am just checking if it has been changed 16:27:46 I know it has been changed because i have proof. i take a print screen of all my bets and i have this in front of me now. you have added the channels after the fact. 16:29:36 ok I can see it has been changed, the person who deals with this market is not actually here right now so would it be ok if I got them to give you a call next time they are in the office with regards to the bet? 16:30:58 Yes but i would like it on record that i am quite sure that this is illegal and under handed. Terrestrial Tv covers alot more than 4 channels. 16:33:41 It was probably updated due to someone asking for it to be specified what was meant by terrestrial, but as I said I will get someone to give you a call in the next couple of days about it. Can I just confirm a contact number please? 16:34:27 xxxxx xxxxxx 16:35:06 ok that's great, someone will give you a call in the next couple of days to follow this up.So on we go. Skybet are shady gits |

Re: A bet that is basically a sewn up winner (Maybe)
As Kegman said, you may get a free bet out of it if they're feeling generous but you've no chance of getting paid out as a winner. They haven't changed the terms of your bet, they've just clarified it.
Terrestrial TV is universally accepted as being channels 1 to 5. It's a term dating from the beginning of satellite TV used to distinguish the stations that were not transmitted via satellinte or cable. The fact that your TV can now pick up stations transmitted by satellite (or the fact that the BBC and ITV chose to transmit their programmes via satellite) doesn't change the definition of the word at all. It doesn't mean that skybet are being "underhand" or "shady" it just means that you've placed a bet that you don't understand. Just ask ten of your mates what they understand "terrestrial television" to mean and you'll either find that 8 out of 10 of them will quote channels 1 to 5 or you'll find that you hang out with some very stupid people. |

I got the impression he understood perfectly but was just having a go due to the lack of 'clarification'. Surely it doesn't matter what people think something means? It's the actual definition by...errr... science that matters. Wikipedia is pretty worthless mind.

Fine Mickey, the definition of terrestrial television is that that can be received without using satellite or cable. Is that good enough for you?
ITV2 is broadcast via satellite, so stop being a knob. |

Re: A bet that is basically a sewn up winner (Maybe)
This is the quote on wiki:
and is available on digital television via satellite, cable, IPTV and terrestrial (Freeview) platforms That says to me that its through digital via a terrestrial platform, which I'm not sure is the same as being available on terrestrial itself ![]() Also, theyve even excluded channel 5 on the bet now ![]() weve all done it, looked at a bet and thought, 'theyve screwed this up' and thought we were in. I would also point out that page of wiki was edited on the 21st dec, when did this thread start ?? ![]() |

As you've already said, any fucking idiot can alter wiki. Shall we take their word for it, or should we maybe listen to the experts
ITV2 has not only enjoyed commercial success but has received critical acclaim picking up its first BAFTA and RTS awards for Entourage; both the Entertainment Channel of the Year and Channel of the Year at the Broadcast Digital Awards and the Non-terrestrial Channel of the Year at the Media Guardian Edinburgh Festival.
