Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2009
I've had a wee tickle on a Daley top 3 too Kop at around 13.00 average.
I think he will probably be hurt by the X Factor the most as the youngsters, mums and grannies would all be big Daley fans on the night, but the camera loves him and it really depends how the BBC show his achievement - there's a good argument for it to be the most impressive of all of them(World Champ at 15 in the Blue Riband category.) |

Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2009
I fear I'm going to be stuffed, but I have a gut feeling the top 3 is going to be split. As much as I strongly feel Button shouldn't be getting the win, he's a cert for a place.
Giggs I agree is in on a life achievement ticket, or a "oh look he's over 35 but isn't a cripple yet" which I think is wrong. But he's got the football vote to himself. Ennis I feel is the weakest of the top 3. It's now Summer since she made her big achievement. 95% of the population I reckon are back to not knowing what event she cometes in even if they still know her. Haye has recency on his side, but Calzaghe aside, boxing is notoriously poorly supported. And now 9/4 for a place. Mmm. Not so sure. Cavendish should be up there there for the title imo but won't. Hopefully though there's a decent section of recognition of what he's done this year, even if gymnastics is a marginal sport. Straus wooee we've won the Ashes I think is a punt at 10s to place. Tweddle and Daley are live shouts but I just don't hink they have a large enough support. If Daley places it's only because he's 6. Had a little chomp at Murray too just because people know who he is. 41/1 for a place doesn't even reach the top 500 in my most supid bets for 2009. So have done Cav to place £35 @ 5.7 Strauss to place £10 @ 11.00 Murray to place £5 @ 42.00 ![]() |

Bets suspended now. I think Giggsy may have snuck in. Odds shortening all the while for him. Not good...

Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2009
I think the realisation hit me that Jessica wouldnt be winning was shortly after I took my seat and realised that the 11,000 Sheffielder's sat in the Arena had to switch off our mobile phones and therefore couldnt vote.......

Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2009
1st Giggs 151,842 votes (29.4%)
2nd Button 96,770 (18.74 %) 3rd Ennis 80,469 (15.58%) 4th Cavendish 55,960 (10.84%) 5th Tweddle 38,907 (7.53%) 6th Daley 36,929 (7.15%) 7th Murray 19,936 (3.86%) 8th Strauss 17,237 (3.34%) 9th Haye 13,916 (2.69%) 10th Idowu 4,507 (0.87%) Quite a distance in the end for the Giggler...fair play. Got my lays in during the show but as Jess drifted not all were at ideal prices - I make it around 5 months of watching the market for not much more than a ton - I'd hate to see the hourly rate on that ![]() Looked like a bit of insider money this year during the show. Is that true trick? I thought they might let you get a few sneaky votes during one of the features. Bastards... |

Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2009
Oooh. The Cavendish gamble wasn't that far off but if the Giggs gamble has proved (and the last three years before as well), BBC Sports Personality of the Year can be manipulated (won't use the 'R' word but one can't help but think that it is). This year though it wasn't that subtle an 'insider gamble' but hey, bookies were still dangling 2/1+ as he was second favourite.
If you cannot beat them, you have to join 'em. ![]() Very, very annoyed. Monitoring this throughout the year and with at least six world champions in the shortlist and the GBP go for a footballer? Eh. May as well not bother trying to predict this before December but it's World Cup year next year so who knows? ![]() |

Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2009
A little win on Giggs didn't quite cover my losses on the top 3 finish market, it would of been alot worse for me had Button won.
I didn't play my bets very well on this and i'll probably skip it next year as i found myself putting to much on, i had a lucky escape in the end. |

Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2009
Glad Giggsy got it! A lot better than the guy with no personality known as Button... Personality wise ... David Haye all the way!
