Re: The Grammys 2008

When they bother to add Male Pop and Female Pop categories to bet on it doesn't make it any easier to find a winner. There's no rhyme or reason as to who should win.

Any other sub-categories should be like shooting fish in a barrel.

Kanye West should win 'Album of the Year' but it's slightly skinny even at betable odds of 8/11.

Re: The Grammys 2008

Hmmm. Did I really type that? Blimey, I did. I've been busy trying to handicap other award shows to remember about the Grammys this year.

Amy Winehouse and Justin Timberlake look like relatively easy calls for Female and Male Pop Vocal Performance respectively. They only thing is will the Grammys snub Amy Winehouse? If she doesn't turn up they might do so. They're on this Sunday like the BAFTAs.

Bodog has an Amy Winehouse special under their 'Celebrity Specials'!

I think it's an absolute fool's errand trying to predict with any accuracy how many Grammys Amy will win.

A site I usually resort to is this one and they have 'Graduation' winning 'Album of the Year', 'Umbrella' winning 'Record of the Year' and 'Song of the Year' and Amy Winehouse winning 'Best New Artist'.

Kanye West has generally been odds-on to win 'Album of the Year' for quite a while now but I don't think it's worth a punt.

There seems to be some slight buzz that 'Umbrella' will win 'Song of the Year' (7/2 over at Paddy Power but a stonking 6/1 over at Centrebet) and not just 'Record of the Year'.

I don't necessarily agree but it's seemingly worth a shot. There are other predictions thinking Amy Winehouse will win all six awards she's up for but I can't see it happening.

This is the Grammys' 50th anniversary show!

Some actual bets later if I can get my act together.

Re: The Grammys 2008

Hmmm. Looks like someone's confident about Amy turning up. Fergie's been bet on a little to upset Amy Winehouse in Best Female Pop Vocal Performance but she looks good to go for Best New Artist.

I've probably got less than 48 hours to get a bet on the Grammys but I just can't pull the trigger on who I want to bet for Record of the Year and Song of the Year to add to the bets I've already made on my Kitchen Sink thread.

* Amy Winehouse has been bet on to upset Kanye West to win Album of the Year (not at Paddy Power though where Kanye firms into 8/15 from 4/7).
* Daughtry has been bet on to upset Foo Fighters in Best Rock Album amongst other things.
* Do I really want to bet on Rehab and Umbrella for Record of the Year and Song of the Year? 'Before He Cheats' is odds-on to win Song of the Year but surely Carrie Underwood can't win twice-in-a-row!?
* Jill Scott never wins Best R&B Album and one of Chaka Khan or surprise Best New Artist nominee Ledisi should make her lose again.

Re: The Grammys 2008

Hmmm. The only prominent mover is Bruce Springsteen's Magic to win Best Rock Album from 8/1 into 5/1.

Amy Winehouse has been denied a via into the US BUT will perform via satellite (wish I bet into the 17/10 for 'no' as it's obviously suspended now).

Re: The Grammys 2008

I have a feeling that if Kanye West takes a one or two gongs at the Grammys, this will result in the final nail being hamered into the coffin of my Timberland bet in The Brits...

Re: The Grammys 2008

...and Leona Lewis is preforming at Clive Davis' legendary' pre-Grammys party as the 'special new artist'.

Big move on Rihanna's Umbrella to win Song of the Year over at various offshore books like Bodog (they've closed their book but they still have odds for show), Bookmaker and The Greek. The best price is now 3/1 over at Centrebet.

Lemming time! £50 at 3/1 that 'Umbrella' wins Song of the Year.

GRAMMY.com - List of winners and nominees

Boy, I'm pissed. Chaka Khan wins at odds of 5/1.

Amy and Justin cakewalked Female and Male Pop Vocal Performance respectively. Why the hell was I scared!?

Amy Winehouse is incidentally 2-for-2 with 4 awards to go!

Uh-oh. Amy's 3-for-3 as she wins 'Song of the Year'. I should have hedged.

Re: The Grammys 2008

'Record of the Year' goes to Amy Winehouse! She's 5-for-5 now!

Eh. Some quantum of solace in that the Foo Fighters, Vince Gill and Kanye West win their respective album sub-categories.

I'm giving myself a score of D. I got all the easy ones and even skipped over some of them but then flunked the harder questions.

Oh FFS! I should have become an Amy fanboy for the day and hopped aboard the 'Wino Wagon'! 5-for-6 ain't bad.

Herbie Hancock denies Amy Winehouse in 'Album of the Year' though!
