Re: American Idol - Season 7

This week's theme is...songs from the year they were born in.

Mentors for future weeks are Mariah Carey, Neil Diamond, Dolly Parton and Andrew Lloyd Webber. What a rum bunch.

This week's odds from Bet365:

Re: American Idol - Season 7

Well, this week’s theme doesn’t give too much away, so I guess we have to look at past performances and how the audience is reacting to them..

The eliminations have not pulled off any shocks so far, but I know one is due, and maybe this week is the week..?

After much discussion about the ‘this season’s Sanjaya’ it appears that Kristy has taken this mantle up.. She certainly is giving it a go and her offer to ‘blow’ Simon’s ‘socks off’ is adding to her appeal. She aint great, but AI likes the underdog and Bet365 have realised this at last, by pegging her at a more realistic 7/5.

The two black finalists are hovering around the relegation zone, but I think both Chikeze and Syesha should survive another week.

The shock of last week was Carly being in the bottom 3.. Not quite to plan, but unfortunately she doesn’t endear herself to the American public despite having the best female vocals. However they’ll want to keep her in this week – expect some OTT comments by the judges on how brilliant her performance was

Of the rest – they should be fine. Michael isn’t as good as he thinks he is, but the Aussie dude should last a bit longer

However one price I cannot resist is that of Ramiele. Lets get this straight – I do like her, and she has a great voice for a ‘little ‘un’.. However she just hasn’t pulled it off at all since the final 12 – whether it is confidence or song choice, but it isn’t happening. She could potentially pull off a great performance this week, but then again maybe another ‘boring’ performance, But, at 10/1 I cannot resist the price. I’m not sure if there’s a massive Far East following for her as she hasn’t been in the bottom 3 so far, but funnier things have happened, and I’m willing to take the chance at a generous 10/1…

Rameile to be the next evicted – 2 pt stake @ 10/1 (Bet365)

Re: American Idol - Season 7

Could be wrong but dont think Ramiele will be going for a few weeks. Jasmine Trias who was a much poorer singer lasted to the final 3 on the back of the Asian vote two seasons ago.
I think Kristy has reached her pinnacle and along with Syesha look the most vulnerable this week

Good point Kosar - the asian vote is something I am wary about - and yes - you are correct regarding Jasmine who to be fair was a poorer singer. I am a fan of Ramiele, but she does need to step up her game a bit and I think the price is quite generous. Kristy has reached her pinnacle, but she seems to have a bit of a following. I actually think that Chikeze has a bigger chance of elimination than Syesha who is gradually improving..

Anyhow welcome to TDP Kosar and we look forward to more of your views in this forum

Re: American Idol - Season 7

Hmm..This week's supposed songs..

Quote:
syesha-if i were a woman by stephanie mills
david cook-billie jean
carly-total eclipse of the heart
chikeze-if only for one night(luther vandross)
brooke-every breath you take
jason-fragile by sting
ramiele-alone
michael johns-we are the champions
kristy-god bless the usa
david a- your the voice by david foster
First thing first..Kristy - Go Bless America..WTF? Is this an attempt to pull at the patriotic strings of the good old us of a..?

David C - Billie Jean...Shit could be carnage or a masterpiece..

I like Brooke's choice, and Carly's is perfect for her, so she shouldnt be in the bottom this week.. Chikeze could easily manage a Luthor song so he should be ok.. Ramiele.. Alone? What is that?? Michael could be in trouble this week taking on a Queen song.. Syesha song - again not sure..

Kristy looks like she could have picked a song to send her out tonight... I'm gonna cover her on the assumption these songs are accurate (which isnt guarnateed.. ..)

Kristy to be eliminated - 7 pt stake @ 7/5

Must be a bit of money on Kristy as Bet365 push her in to evens from 7/5..

Re: American Idol - Season 7

Well, the Kristy bet backfired spectacularly as she puls off one of the performances of the night. In hindsight, maybe biggin' up the patriotic fervour of the Yanks with such a slushy song was probably a masterstroke....

My other tip Ramiele didnt perform well, but with mitigating circumstances (some poncy cold or summat!)

However it looks like Chikeze may have sang his last song this week..

Surprisingly Carly didnt do great again God news for us Brooke fans (although she herself had a dodgy start to her song due to some confusion with the band..)

Of the rest - Michael excelled, and so did Syesha.. David A had another dodgy performance and Pinnacle now peg him at odds against (22/19). One of the stars of the show was my 10/1 tip David Cook who pulled off a great Billie Jean performance. The beauty of this guy is he can take a dodgy mainstream song and make it something better. Pinnacle think this as well as his odds to win the comp are cut to 12/5

Re: American Idol - Season 7

Its Dolly week next Tuesday, with all the contestants singing a Dolly number. Can Kristy survive again?

Re: American Idol - Season 7

I have had difficulty with Dolly week, but believe that Ramiele could be in danger this week. Will imagine Syesha will try and belt out the Whitney version of "I'll always love you" (Dolly does it far better). Feel that Kristy will go with Jolene, and be safe this week. Brooke must likely will go with " Love is like a Butterfly". God only knows what the guys will try and sing.
I think that Syesha, Carly and maybe Michael Jones could be among the bottom feeders, along with Ramiele.

Re: American Idol - Season 7

Hmm..Having had a few quid taken from me this week, I am a tad wary of the elimination markets.. This week is probabaly the most difficut to guage - Verrrrry trappy.... If I was forced to make a decision at the mo, I would go with either Carly or Jason - both at decent odds..Carly is definately losing any appeal she may have had - not that a tattoo-infested irish lass has that much appeal anyhow.. Jason has reached his limit, and good looks alone (Swampy-style) can't disguise the fact he is now one of the weakest performers, and neither are really Dolly style performers..
