Re: American Idol - Season 7

Well, it didnt go quite to how the odds predicted as Amanda survives a 4/9 chance.. Goes to show that the Yanks do like their rockchicks..

Still Kady gets the boot and I get a profitable week (albeit a small one due to David dodging the bullet..)

American Idol 08
Bets placed - 4(2 w, 2 l)
Amount Staked - 20.5 pts
Amount returned - 26.9 pts
Profit to date +6.4 pts

(1x 4 pt ante post bet placed also)

Re: American Idol - Season 7

Current odds from The Greek..

Top Female
Carly Smithson 2.65
Brooke White 3.65
Syesha Mercado 4.85
Amanda Overmyer 6.25
Ramiele Malubay 6.25
Kristy Lee Cook 19.15

Top Male
David Archuleta 1.59
Michael Johns 6.25
Jason Castro 8.25
David Hernandez 9.05
David Cook 10.15
Chikezie 26.50

Nice to see my top female tip Brooke nestled in second place.. Well..at the mo...

The David Cook price looks very tempting...

This week's outright and elimination odds from Bet365:

Well Amanda is probably the favourite but I wouldn't be surprised to see that she survives this week. Too tough to assess.

Ach. You were a week too early, rick!

Reality TV Magazine » American Idol Results: David Hernandez Voted Off

Bottom three included Syesha. Kristy Lee was the one who survived against David Hernandez.

Re: American Idol - Season 7

Well I've finally taken the plunge on punting on Brooke White to be the top female and punted £99.89 to win £198.40. Shame it took this long for me to now go for the +185 though at The Greek (it's 6/4 and worse over at Betfair though!).

A few of the opinion pieces and forum posts I've been reading elsewhere are suggesting that though Simon Cowell's chosen one appears to be David Archuleta (well duh, Simon has said that Archuleta's his favourite) he is vulnerable but because of this someone like Carly Smithson or Michael Johns might not make the final two (they're capable singers with a similar sound to Archuleta's supposedly). The likeliest spoilers could be David Cook or Brooke White who could both reach the final three ahead of Carly Smithson and Michael Johns.

This week's theme is still Lennon and McCartney.

If this is all about numbers and getting rid of a female, Kristy is rightfully I suppose in danger. They may not want to get rid of the sole black female Syesha left. Amanda or Ramiele might not be so lucky.

I don't think my wayward thinking is that straight-forward but a female should probably go this week. I'm not betting on who'll go this week though!

This week's outright, next elimination and top female/male odds from Bet365, The Greek and Betfair:

Re: American Idol - Season 7

How on earth is that fella odds on?!? Caught a bit of the show yesterday and he was one of the few I saw - he looked stiff as a board and lacked any sort of stage presence, and the vocals were none too great either.

Looking back through Youtube his previous performances have been better, but deserving of 5/6?! Never.

Re: American Idol - Season 7

Well the elimination markets for this week make Kristy the odds on favourite to bite the bullet.. Fair enough she is the favourite, but odds on.... Nah..Sorry, 'Trickrick Bookmakers' would be taking on the punters and pegging Kristy at around 6/4 or so.. In other words I aint convinced she is a gonna this week.. To be fair she aint no Carrie Underwood, erm..actually she is no Alaina either (who should still be in this comp ) but she has an okish country voice, and I'm sure we won't see a repeat of the 'Dolly Parton on helium' performance from last week..

It is another Lennon/McCartney night so expect some more ropey performances again. Being the sole black female performer, and a good performer to boot, Syesha shouldnt go.. Chikeze who I have been complimentary about since the top 24, and he should also last further as he continues to warm himself to the audience..I said he was a 'Ruben with personality' and he is certainly gaining momentum (I just wish I had took the 170's on Betfair I saw a while ago..) Ramiele is also a talented singer - the little porceline doll with a massive voice will be safe.. Of the rest they should all canter through to next week..Apart from one.. Amanda has annoyed me from day 1.. She seems to come across as someone who is either just a miserable bitch, or someone who is desperately trying to be the cool 'rockchick'.. To be fair, either way she isnt someone to warm to, and her screaming voice although I'm sure would fit in a haevy rock group, shouldnt be in the final 12.. Her annoying hair doesnt help...Although she escaped last week, she isnt good for the show. Carly is by far the more appealing rock chick and so much better and more versatile.. I can't see Amanda lasting much longer and I think the generous (imo) price of 4/1 has been awarded due to the fact that she wasnt in the bottom 3 last week.. Don't be fooled as I guarantee she will be in the bottom 3 this week and at 4/1 it's worth a punt that she goes...

Amanda to be eliminated this week - 4 pt stake @ 4/1 (Bet365)

Re: American Idol - Season 7

Ok..Been thinking about this a while, and of course i miss the decent prices.. Having said that, I think I may have got a semi-decent price, before it's too late..

I've always been convinced that the 'rock type' is due a win on American Idol.. In fact I was massively on Bo Byce to win AI 4 (?) when Carrie Underwood won - I'm sure that edtkh remmbers the thread well from the PL days.. (Where has edtkh gone by the way? )

I was also on the bald rocker from 2 years ago (whatsisname) and again he fell before the final hurdle..

However maybe this is the time..I aint convnced that Cowell is committed fully to David Archuleta (as much as his initial comments may indicate), and I aint convinced that although he is a decent singer, he is the polished and complete article.. Around evens for David A now looks a tad shakey... Ok Jodin Sparks won at an early age, but she was mature beyond her years - David A looks like he has just broke his voice.. Do they want another kid winnng it? Jason Castro - although he has a girlie following doenst cut the mustard.. Aussie boy Michael Johns was the most memorable at rehersals, but just hasnt moved on and although an ok singer, hasnt stepped up futher..

Of the females, well I can't see a female winner this year. Carly is great, but lacks the 'it' factor.. I am still also convinced that the irish accent won't help. Brooke is great - I am convinced she will go far - hence my bet on her at 9's to be top female, although I'm not sure she will hit the overall winner pinnacle...

So we're left with David Cook.. As I said earlier, AI could do with a rock singer winner.. He is pulling off some great vocals - he doesnt look great (although make up and groomers are working wonders with him), but he has the best voice (even Cowell admits) and I reckon that American Idol could do with a rock shake up.. I should have pounced earlier, but heck 10/1 will do me....

No more AI bets for a while now....

David Cook to win American Idol - 10 pt stake @ 10/1 (BEt365)

Re: American Idol - Season 7

An opinion on the performances from gamblin911

Opening the March 18, 2008 performance show, Amanda Overmyer came out swinging with "Back in the USSR" from the Beetles and, while it was good, Judge Simon Cowell said it best: "She's in danger of becoming boring".

Kristy was up next....the judges didn't like it...but I didn't think it was all that bad. She's probably safe too because Kristy is developing a little following here and she told Simon off (in a cute kinda way).

David Archuleta performed "The Long and Winding Road", making up for last week's blunders. He's such a little cutie pie. I feel like just squeezing him. Randy loved it. Paula called him "pure". Simon - "I thought you were amazing".

Michael Johns was just not very good this week. Ouch!

Brooke White...."Here Comes The Sun" and it was kinda drab. She's a sweet girl who admitted it wasn't her night.

Kristy Lee Cook is suddenly starting to look good tonight, huh?

David Cook was good. Simon didn't like it though.

Carly Smithson did "Blackbird" and she was flawless. Loved it! So did the judges....except Simon of course.

Jason Castro was singing a French song "Michelle" and I didn't think it was that great.

Miami's own Syesha Mercado was up next. And obviously we are rooting for her down here in Miami. She was singing "Yesterday". Randy said "Very, very, very good performance tonight". Paula said it was nice to allow herself to be more vulnerable. Simon thought it was her best performance thus far. Syesha is in next week. You go girl!

Chikezie Eze is in the house playing a harmonica. He is getting HOT! Everything from slow melody at the start to a wild foot stomping beat. Loved it. Simon thought it was "gimmicky" but I think he is safe.

Ramiele Malubay at 25/1 odds I thought was good enough to make it into next week. Simon felt she chose a "mediocre" song much like most of the other Idols.

The winners tonight: David Archuleta and - yes - Syesha Mercado.

Reality TV Magazine as well as others are suggesting that as she's had a DUI that was perhaps as good enough a reason why should had to go.

A few anxious moments with the bottom three being Amanda, Carly and Kristy Lee and then Carly was saved though weren't there!?
