Re: XMAS number 1 without x-factor

No big groups/artists have releases planned for Xmas because the X Factor has completely devalued the whole thing. It builds up such momentum that not even the big guns can compete, and so now none even bother trying. Ruins what was once a fairly lively betting market.

Think Sugababes are the only ones to release in the run up to Xmas - Leona/Take That/Spice Girls are all out already and so its all a question of whether they can sustain sales over the next few weeks. Looks unlikely for all.

The other runners and riders are the novelty releases - there's quite a few in there.

SCD Theme is probably a decent bet there - it will also benefit from the timing of the show and will prove an ok stocking filler. Doesn't seem much opposition. Not a market I would fancy tho.

Re: XMAS number 1 without x-factor

The odds over at Skybet...

Girls Aloud's chances (they're number three in the single chart this week) have surely sunk like a stone with two weeks to go as have Soulja Boy (currently number ten) and The Pogues (currently number twelve from number thirty-three)

Sugababes' chances are on the rise but it's going to have to have a storming week in it's official release as it's currently number 26 in the download chart (a good or a bad thing depending on your point of view).

Leona Lewis could be a surprise runner at this rate if she keeps chugging along like this.

What I think is weird is if Alesha loses in the SCD final but the single does well.

OT: The Emma Bunton/Children in Need single of her covering Elaine Paige's Downtown reached number three last year.

Don't be surprised to see Soulja Boy possibly spring a surprise. This song has been gaining more and more airplay each week with the dance from it becoming a pretty big thing especially online.

Leona Lewis would be my choice though.

Re: XMAS number 1 without x-factor

Midweek charts suggests the Katie Melua/Eva Cassidy you-can-only-buy-it-at-Tesco single will be this week's number one and that it'll be the one to finally dethrone Leona Lewis.

This has meant a huge plunge on them 'to win without The X Factor' as a result from a high of 7/1 into fooking odds-on ATB. It's effectively game over.

OT: Paddy's have a mildly interesting market involving 'classic' Christmas songs and which one of them will chart the highest.

Re: XMAS number 1 without x-factor

Katie Melua and Eva Cassidy get their first UK number one single finally knocking Leona Lewis off the top, who falls to two. Soulja Boy rises to three, Mariah Carey jumps up to number four and Girls Aloud get up to number five.

BBC NEWS | Entertainment | Melua duet ends Lewis's chart run

Before betting was closed this afternoon I think only William Hill actually thought that Leona Lewis has more of a chance than Katie Melua/Eva Cassidy to be this year's Christmas Number Two single behind the dastardly X Factor winner's single. Hmmm. Have the duo peaked too early?

Re: XMAS number 1 without x-factor

Oooh. Stan James still have a market up but it should be game over by the time Wednesday's midweek numbers are announced.

I suppose one should keep a watching brief as to the market movements over at Betfair though.

Re: XMAS number 1 without x-factor

Heard Colin Murray on Scott Mills show tonight going on about the Malcolm Middleton song, pushing it big time. Saying how much better it would be for the xmas no.1 to be that and not the x-factor pish, and boy is it pish.

Colin Murray has obviously been going on about this song later at night but it was the first I had heard it. Have to say I will probably download it for the hell of it, so how many more of me will do the same?

Re: XMAS number 1 without x-factor

Surely Soulja Boy worth a nibble?

Number 1 on many viewers chart shows now and a big jump in yesterdays charts.

20/1 worth a fiver IMO.

Re: XMAS number 1 without x-factor

One plus for Soulja Boy is that it was only released on CD this week, it's been performing well in the charts through download only.

How could you not want this as Xmas no1? Soulja Boy could steal it though, you are right Kiko.

  • Was just thinking there, the best type of "fuck off " is the following; You`re playing astro, 5 a side, someone shouts "handball" and the "fuck off" response is fucking class.
