When the Krystal Square Off IV World Hamburger Eating Championship is televised live to a national audience on ESPN Sunday, October 28, 2007, at 2:30 pm EST, top competitive eaters like Joey Chestnut and Pat Bertoletti will not be the only ones in the spotlight as they compete for the top burger title and a $35,000 cash prize purse. The Chattanooga Riverfront and its parks will also be on display as the the fast food icon will host its annual hamburger eating championship and festival for the first time along the banks of the Tennessee River at Ross's Landing in beautiful downtown Chattanooga.
"We're extremely excited to be bringing the Krystal Square Off IV finals to the Chattanooga Riverfront this year." said Brad Wahl, vice president of marketing, The Krystal Company. "The setting is also perfect for the number of fun, festival events we have lined up for this year's Square Off, and it is conveniently located for both Chattanoogans and visitors to the Scenic City who want to experience this televised event live in person."

More than just an eight-minute eating contest, Krystal Square Off IV is a day long celebration for people of all ages that begins at noon with the official KrystalFest Tailgating Party. Among the free "tailgating" activities that will take place at the Chattanooga Green and Ross's Landing amphitheater prior to the World Championship Finals include live music, carnival games, kid's activities, the Parade of Eaters, Autograph Alley, an amateur eating contest, free Krystal hamburgers and much, much more.

This is the fourth year Krystal has hosted the Krystal Square Off World Hamburger Eating Championship. The past two years the Krystal Square Off finals took place at the First Tennessee Pavilion with crowd estimates between 3,000 and 5,000 people. In its inaugural year, the Krystal Square Off was held outside at Hamilton Place Mall.

The Krystal Square Off is one of the majors in the sport of competitive eating and the only world hamburger-eating championship sanctioned by Major League Eating, the world governing body of all stomach-centric sports. Annually drawing thousands of the world’s top eaters and amateur hopefuls, the three-month long qualifying circuit and championship event officially got underway on August 22, 2007, in Chattanooga, with the first of nine regional qualifiers.

At the world championship final on October 28, the top eaters will battle it out for one of competitive eating’s most coveted titles and a piece of the unprecedented $35,000 cash prize purse. The winner this year will receive a $10,000 cash prize along with the coveted Krystal Square Off World Champion's Belt and the Champion's Trophy made out of crystal. The runner-up and third place finishers will take home a paycheck of $7,500 and $3,500 respectively. The remaining finalists will receive payouts ranging from $2,300 to $500.

Chestnut Eats Record 87 Krystals

10/19/07

Joey Chestnut set a new AL Record by eating 87 Krystals in eight minutes in the Birmingham Krystal Square Off Local Finals in Tuscaloosa. This total makes Chestnut one of the early favorites for the World Championship on October 28.
Also eating his way into the World Championship was Tim Brown with 43 Krystals.
In third place was Juris Shibayama with 35 Krystals.
Among the other eaters were Clay Shearer with 17 and Kevin Lewis with 13.
Krystal Square Off

Bertoletti got 76 last year, while Chestnut came second with 91. Kobayashi beat him with 97.

No sign of Kobayashi this year, so Chestnut really has to be the pick, especially at 6/5!

Just wonder why Chestnut is odds against since his emphatic hotdog win? ..Is Deep Dish an hamburger specialist? Has Chestnut not trained since 4th July and just spent the Summer piggin out? So many questions....

Chestnut ate 87 in the qualifiers!

Though Berlotti ate 85, his personal best, in his qualifying session!

Re: Krystal Square Off IV World Hamburger Eating Championship

Just looking at the Bodog site and there are some other interesting bets on there!

Quote:
Will a competitor eat 100 or more Burgers at the Krystal Square Off IV World Hamburger Eating Championship?
Yes - 6.00
No - 1.11
Chestnut pushed himself that little bit further in this years Nathans Hotdog contest than he did the year previous, 66 in 2007 compared to just 52 in 2006. Considering he made 91 last year, I could see him pushing himself to break that 100 barrier, especially since Bertoletti has been improving.

Quote:
Will one of the competitors be disqualified for a "Reversal"?
Yes - 3.50
No - 1.25
Basically, will one of the competitiors be disqualified for throwing up? AS with any eating event, people will be pushing themselves. Possibly, I'll try to look into the history of the competition, find the number of reversals in recent years.

I must admit this bet intrigues me..

Didnt Chestnut smash the hotdog record in the Final in July? Although an improvement from the qualifiers of 15 burgers is quite a target..Still 6.00 looks a nice price...

Juts gone on Chestnut at the moment Trick, may be tempted with a small-ish bet on the 100 burgers though (if i'm feeling flush)!

The only thing that's holding me back at the moment from this bet is the lack (or perceived lack) of competition.

With the Nathan's, it was Chestnut and Kobayashi all the way, constantly pushing each other and trying to out-do one another from the start to the very end. I'm not sure how much Bertoletti is going to be pushing Chestnut, for example if Chestnut is well ahead with a minute left is he likely to slow down.

Saying that, Chestnut knows that Bertoletti is quite capable of a mid-eighties finish so may want to push himself a bit further (mid-90s, 100s?) just to be sure of victory.

Re: Krystal Square Off IV World Hamburger Eating Championship

My $50 obviously scared them.

The only previous I've had with Bodog was the $200 I had on Chestnut at the hotdog contest. They must think I'm a big player in the world of professional eating!
