Who's offering odds on such a market? It seems completely random and something a bookie wouldn't bother to put up odds for.

Re: no 1 downloaded song within 3mts

Don't think so. It's not a bet worth investigating and not worth a bookie's effort or time in verifying the result. I wouldn't want to be the fooking bookie chasing up some charts company on a poxy bet like this. The likes of Paddy Power and William Hill would laugh at you and shrug their shoulders. No offence intended.

The Sopranos has more of a following on DVD and torrenting here in the UK.

I wouldn't let the fact that it went to number one on iTunes mean anything for it's UK download sales.

Re: no 1 downloaded song within 3mts

In June 2007, the Irish radio DJ Ray Foley, who broadcasts on weekdays on the radio station Today FM, started a campaign for listeners to legally download the song on iTunes or any other legal download service considered legal in Ireland, in order to get the song to the #1 spot in the Irish charts. Foley had done the same with the Johnny Cash anthem Hurt, but this time wanted to curb the success of Rihanna's 'Umbrella', as well as rejuvenate the Journey song. It reached number 14 and stayed in the charts for 2 weeks. It later peaked at #4 after the final episode of The Sopranos aired on RTÉ Two and #1 in the iTunes charts.[4]

As interesting as that is, it's probably too taxing for the bookie to price it up and given the timeframe involved would suggest they'd be the ones most likely to be on the receiving end of a bad result.

I'd think you'd have been given ungenerous odds of something like 2/1 and a smallish limit of oooh, perhaps £100 just to make sure there isn't some sneaky shenanigans going on (like encouraging an internet campaign to download the song or something like that).

There's been a few campaigns before encouraging folks in the UK to download certain songs to try and be number one/make a mockery of the new chart rules such as Chris Moyles insisting that people download Billie's Honey to the Bee (it reached number 11 in the download chart and number 17 in the singles chart).

Honey to the Bee - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I suppose you'd have to approach the bookie yourself and make it quick if you're that insistent and that you'd be looking at this page for the next nine weeks as to whether or not you've won.

It's something out of the blue and something that would smell a bit fishy to bookies. I remember Heat magazine approaching William Hill back in 1999 asking them that they wanted to place a bet that three singles in three weeks would consecutively be number one in the singles chart and they were laughed out of the building by Graham Sharpe who told them they wouldn't take such a bet.

Those three singles? Lenny Kravitz's Fly Away, Britney Spears' Baby One More Time and Blur's Tender.

Ironically William Hill would have won as Britney Spears kept Blur off to remain number one in the singles chart for a second week.

OT: Seems completely random what bookies will put up. Led Zeppelin's two-disc compilation album 'Mothership' being number one? It's released on November 13th but Ladbrokes will takes bets up 'til next Monday!

Bit of a long wait for a 1/2 shot to come in but it looks likely to happen.

"They're pretty much the Picasso of heavy rock. Led Zeppelin's albums have certainly lasted the test of time and they're pretty much the template of heavy rock at its best."

Their return follows comebacks by a number of other rock and pop legends, such as The Police, Genesis, the Spice Girls, Crowded House and Take That.
I am laughing my hole off that these idiots were even mentioned in the same
webpage, police genesis yeah crowded house maybe but.....
