Re: American Presidential Primaries

If one candidate doesn't get the required number of delegates to automatically win the nomination by the end of May then it might even be decided at their respective national conventions in August.

As it is there are still various more states to vote so we'll get more of this nonsense in the next 90 days.

Re: American Presidential Primaries

Huh. Wouldn't ya know it? There's odds on it! Even more Bettingzone Market News:

1305: More US election news and William Hill have opened a book on when the Democratic candidate will become known.

They are betting on the month in which either Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama either officially concede defeat or withdraw from the race.

July or later is the 1/2 favourite. The party's national convention, at which the nomination is officially confirmed, takes place in August and some political commentators believe the closeness of the race will mean the decision is not reached until then.

It's also 33/1 February, 10/1 March, 10/1 April, 3/1 May and 10/1 June.

With more results from yesterday's 'Super Tuesday' voting now in, Clinton has won 845 delegates so far and Obama 765. 2,025 is needed to win.

Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe said: "To have to admit defeat is going to be almost as devastating as realising that they are not as popular as they believed for one of these candidates, and you'd have to think they will try to delay making such an admission as long as possible."

Meanwhile, the Leeds-based firm also offer 2/1 that Clinton and Obama will become running-mates - as presidential and vice-presidential candidates - in the election campaign, regardless of who eventually wins the nomination.

=============

I think although a Hillary-Barack dream ticket is very tempting (the media would go apeshit for it) it most likely won't happen. Hillary's probably got her choice as to who she wants as vice-president and so will Barack.

Re: American Presidential Primaries

Today's Bettingzone Market News:

1430: In a dramatic turnaround, Hillary Clinton is no longer the bookies favourite to become the next President of America.

Instead, she has emerged as the hot favourite for the Vice Presidency with bookmaker Paddy Power chalking her up ahead of all candidates at short odds of 5/2.

Fellow Democratic nominee Barack Obama and Republican Senator John McCain have emerged as the 13/8 joint favourites to win the Presidential election with Hillary drifting to third on the bookies list at 7/4.

Other names being tipped for the Vice Presidency are Mike Huckabee at 4/1, John Edwards at 10/1, Condoleeza Rice at 16/1 and even former President Bill Clinton at 100/1.

Sharon McHugh, spokesperson for Paddy Power said: "There seems to be a lot of unrest amongst the public with speculation mounting that Hillary may be running out of money. "This might explain the U-turn our punters have taken. Obama has gained a lot of support and momentum since Super Tuesday - but there's still a long way to go."

Re: American Presidential Primaries

Huh. Minutes afterwards it emerged that Mitt Romney had given up the ghost. More Bettingzone Market News:

1950: With Mitt Romney out of the race for the White House, John McCain is 1/100 favourite to get the Republican nomination with William Hill, who also offer 16/1 Mike Huckabee and 25/1 Ron Paul.

William Hill latest Presidential odds: 6/4 John McCain, 7/4 Barack Obama, 15/8 Hillary Clinton, 25/1 Mike Bloomberg, 50/1 Mike Huckabee, 100/1 Ron Paul.

Re: American Presidential Primaries

Well the media blitz on supporting Barack Obama seems to be working as he's back into favouritism! Today's Bettingzone Market Moves:

1500: Barack Obama has been made clear favourite to win the race to the White House by William Hill after winning three more states in the battle for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination.

The Illinois senator won in Louisiana, Nebraska and Washington state and won caucuses in the US Virgin Islands and Hills have cut him from 6/4 to 5/4 favourite to be named president.

Republican front-runner John McCain has drifted out slightly from 6/4 to 13/8 after losing out to Mike Huckabee in Kansas and Louisiana, while Hillary Clinton is now out from 9/4 to 5/2 third favourite.

Obama is 4/7 from 8/13 with Hills to get the Democrat nomination, with Clinton 5/4 from 6/5.

McCain is 1/50 favourite (from 1/100) to win the Republican nomination with Hills, who have cut Huckabee from 16/1 to 12/1.

The Democrats are 1/2 favourites to win the election, with the Republicans 6/4.

Re: American Presidential Primaries

Odds at Paddy Power as to who will be the candidates for Vice President for each party as well as who will be the Vice President:

I dunno if there's some ramping going on but there's rumours that John Edwards could be Barack's running mate. I'll have a pop at £48.36 on the 8/1 that he'll be the Democratic Vice Presidential candidate and £33.48 at 12/1 on that groundless rumour.

Personally I think the Democrats are as good as in even with the polls suggesting it's from a certainty. I've gone bonkers though with Barack Obama fever.

Re: American Presidential Primaries

Today's Bettingzone Market Moves:

1015: Barack Obama is now a heavy odds-on favourite to win the Democratic nomination for the US presidency after gaining more ground on rival Hillary Clinton overnight.

The Illinois senator took the primary in Wisconsin and is expected to also pick up victory in Hawaii.

That stretches his lead to 74 delegates - he has 1,319 to Clinton's 1,245. A total of 2,025 is needed for outright victory.

Sky Bet have cut Obama's odds from 4/11 to 2/9 following the latest round of voting.

bet365 have pushed Clinton out from 9/4 to 7/2.

In the outright presidency market, Obama hs now gone odds on with Ladbrokes (20/23 from 11/10) and Blue Square (5/6 from evens).

As things stand it appears Obama will be facing off with Republican John McCain in the presidency race. McCain can be backed at a general 7/4 to reach the White House.

=============

The CNN head-to-head debate on Thursday between Barack and Hillary could be surprisingly heated.

I've got my ridiculous Hail Mary long-term bet to look forward to. My reasoning with the rumours is that John Edwards will endorse Barack Obama in exchange for becoming Vice President. Absolutely bonkers thinking but there you go.

Re: American Presidential Primaries

Today's Bettingzone Market News:

1300: Following his recent victories in Wisconsin and Hawaii, Barack Obama has been cut from 11/10 to 5/6 favourite by Hills to win the race to the White House.

They make John McCain 7/4 second favourite with Hillary Clinton now shunted out from 11/4 to 9/2 - the longest odds she has been since the campaign began in earnest.

Independent Mike Bloomberg is the 33/1 outsider.

"Hillary now knows that victory in Texas and Ohio is vital if her campaign is not to leave the rails," said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe.

=============

A week and a bit to go before March 4th. Let's see what tricks Hillary and John can pull on Barack.

I'm surprised after some slight 'Will he, won't he?' drama that Mike Bloomberg would actually be bothered to have a go as he's still undecided. He's a right eejit if he thinks he's got any chance.

Re: American Presidential Primaries

Here's today's Bettingzone Market News:

1205: After weeks without attracting any significant support, Hillary Clinton has been backed to win the forthcoming Ohio Primary in the US Presidential race.

William Hill have shortened her odds from 5/6 to 8/11 after taking a string of bets, including one for 4000 Canadian dollars. Barack Obama is even money to win there.

============

Voting on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning.

William Hill's prices:

* To win Ohio? Barack Obama 'evens', Hillary Clinton 8/11
* To win Texas? Barack Obama 1/3, Hillary Clinton 9/4

Eh. Well I suppose if the polling is to be believed Hillary should just about able to fend off Barack in Ohio but Obama's gonna walk it in Texas.

Re: American Presidential Primaries

Today's Bettingzone Market Moves:

0800: William Hill have cut Hillary Clinton from 8/11 to 8/13 favourite to win the Ohio Primary, but Barack Obama is red hot favourite at 2/7 to win in Texas.

"If either candidate wins both Ohio and Texas, they will receive a massive boost to their momentum and their ultimate chance of success, but punters are finding it difficult to envisage any other than a split outcome at the moment," said the firm's spokesman Graham Sharpe.

Hills have slightly lengthened their odds about Obama winning the race to the White House from 4/6 to 8/11 favourite, with John McCain in from 7/4 to 13/8 while Clinton remains the 11/2 outsider.

Re: American Presidential Primaries

Yesterday afternoon's Bettingzone Market News:

1415: Barack Obama
is 11/4 with William Hill to win both the Ohio and Texas Primaries - possibly landing a fatal blow to Hillary Clinton's chances in the process.

Hills make Clinton 15/4 to win both.

"At the moment, Hillary has been heavily backed for Ohio and Barack for Texas, so these two results may not be conclusive," said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe.

Hills are offering 7/1 that Clinton will quit the race before midnight on Sunday (British time - 1/16 still to be in) and 16/1 that Obama will do so (1/100 still to be in).

Odds from Bet365 about today's various Democratic and Republican primaries:

I can't see beyond what's stated. The Texans seem to me to be embracing Barack Obama which is a bit of a surprise. The organised female vote in Ohio (much like what happened in New Hampshire to the surprise of many) should ensure Hillary Clinton finishes ahead over there though.

Re: American Presidential Primaries

WOW!! Hillary wins Texas as well as Ohio and Rhode Island. Barack only managed to win Vermont but maintains a sizable lead in number of delegates as Obama has 1477 compared to Clinton's 1391 (the magic number is 2025).

BBC NEWS | World | Americas | Clinton comeback wins key votes

Who stuffed the ballot box over in Texas!? The Republicans desperately wanting Hillary to do well!?

The fight between Barack and Hillary just swings back and forth. Oh, and John McCain finally becomes the official Republican presidential candidate.

Re: American Presidential Primaries

Updated odds in today's Bettingzone Market Moves:

0845: Hillary Clinton has been cut from 11/2 to 10/3 to win the race to the White House by William Hill who still make Barack Obama favourite but have lengthened his odds from 8/11 to Evens, with John McCain 13/8 second favourite.

Clinton pledged to "make history" today as she revived her ailing campaign in Texas and Ohio in the race for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination.

Mrs Clinton's victories over Obama came as many observers were writing off her chances of staying in the race following a string of 11 consecutive wins for the young Illinois senator since Super Tuesday.

Hills have cut her from 3/1 to 9/4 to win the Democrat nomination, with Obama 1/3 favourite from 1/5.

"Hillary is certainly right back in the race and has re-captured the momentum, but Barack is far from a back number," said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe.
