Re: Terry newton dead!
The former Great Britain rugby league player Terry Newton has been found dead at a house in Greater Manchester.
The 31-year-old is understood to have been found hanged at a house in Orrell, near Wigan, on Sunday afternoon. In February, the hooker was given a two-year suspension by the UK Anti-Doping Agency after testing positive for a human growth hormone (HGH). The former Leeds, Wigan and Bradford player then had his playing contract cancelled by Wakefield. "Shortly after 2pm on Sunday 26 September 2010, police were called to a house on Harswell Close in Orrell, Wigan, following a report of concern for welfare," a Greater Manchester Police spokesman said. "Officers went to the address and found the body of a 31-year-old man. "Inquiries have been launched, but there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death." Hopes of return Newton tested positive for the banned substance on 24 November 2009, after being asked to provide a blood sample during pre-season training with Wakefield. He was believed to be one of the first athletes in the world to test positive for HGH. In June, he spoke to BBC Radio 5 live about his hopes to return to the game after his ban, which he hoped to get reduced by the agency. "I've made one of the biggest mistakes of my life and I know it is something I will regret for the rest of my life." Newton made 15 international appearances for Great Britain in a career spanning all 15 seasons of the Super League. The Rugby Football League (RFL) has issued a statement expressing its sadness at Newton's death. "We are deeply shocked and saddened by the news of Terry's untimely death," RFL chairman Richard Lewis said. "This is a personal tragedy and our thoughts are with Terry's partner, his children and his family at this terrible time." Tributes have already started appearing on a page set up in his memory on the social networking website, Facebook. By the sounds of it he was hooked on HGH which can cause people to get really depressed and do things like this, loads of wrestlers have died the same way being on HGH and then hanging them selves due to the drugs taking control of your mind |

Re: Terry newton dead!
Yorkie, he wasnt hooked on the drug - he took the drug to make him more bulkier as he was getting older and wanted to be able to compete with the young meatheads, and maybe prove himself at Wakey and aim to get back into the bigtime once again. He took HGH when he was badly advised by younger players and only took it for a short while, and was very unlucky to get caught - some even say the lads who got him on the drug were the ones who snitched to the authorities - but thats another matter.
The stuff im hearing is that he did this because he was deeply depressed at not being able to play competitive rugby, and a few of his closest mates were worried for a while about his state of mind. He has played rugby since he was like 8, and to take that away from him, his way of life, was like taking his will to live away. Yes he had a wife and children, but obviously the ban hurt him very very badly and he never recovered. Maybe seeing his old team get to the grand final last night, something he`d never experience again at the age of 32 ,he`d be 34 when his ban ended, may have tipped him over the edge. Very very sad really. He must have been hurting sooooooooooooo fucking much inside I didnt realise he lived in Orrell , as thats like 5mins from where I used to live, nice area. |

Re: Terry newton dead!
Just got in and seen it on the news, its a shame and my heart goes out to his family.
Didn't his sister also die not so long back? It was probably a catalogue of things in the end that pushed him over the edge, I don't know a lot about him but do remember reading somewhere about how he got the HGH of another team mate or player but he never told who it was. Growth hormone ffs, if he wasn't big enough allready. RIP Terry. |
