Re: Rugby League 24-26th Sep
Well done Grim shame about the other matches and the fact is we were the much better team which no one can deny at all we just couldnt finish it off. Seems as your not a Wigan fan anyway doesnt really matter so
![]() Yeah Samoan it was our own undoing every single try so never mind the key one was before half time as we had made no mistakes barr one for there penalty and had looked the much better team even when they went ahead we still looked the better team. I think the floats out to Senior were a good idea but should of been done with a bit more pace on them they always work when we play it much quicker and the idea is for a space to open but as they wernt going to him quick enough we had no chance of attempting it. Still our own mistakes how we only scored one try is unbelievable Shame really i was getting used to the back to back to backs, The only positive i can take is that we wont be the team to beat now next season, every week who ever we have played the last 2 years has been there cup final and they have been up for it much more. So that will be a better factor next season, Oh well come on Saints you can win one this year |

Re: Rugby League 24-26th Sep
What was the general opinion on Rob Burrow. Personally, I thought he punched well above his weight with his First Half defensive work, but was never enough of a threat with ball in hand. Definitely should have run at the line more IMO.

Not as good as he was imvho Samoan. Leeds have deffo seen better days and its time for new blood. The likes of Diskin,Senior,Burrow et al need to move over and give youth a chance. Or maybe theyve just become a bit stale ?

Re: Rugby League 24-26th Sep
They`ll stick with them, as happens in most sports, until they have a bad season where they finish about 8th (a bit like Bradford !!) and then they`ll realise theyve left it too late and shed them , bring in a few aussies, and use youth. There`s only sir alex who seems to be able to keep it going , bringing through youth and foreigners, without the teams performances being affected too much !
This Wigan team will dominate now for the next 3-4 years imvho. Rgarding the final, a few mates think saints will win, but for me, Saints really struggled to get past Cas, a team who hadnt won at Saints for like 60 years, then they beat Wire, another team who hadnt won at saints in like 40yrs and have a hoodoo about them and had lost before they took the field - and then they edged past a Huddersfield team , who despite being exhausted after last weeks mammoth struggle, came from behind to lead at one stage, before the inevitable tiring in the final 15. And all those games were home games ! Wigan have beaten saints twice already this season, and saints are another team who have had better days. Leeds pushed wigan tonight upto a point, as youd expect, they are the reigning champs after all , but once they got 14 up they started making mistakes and took their eye off the ball and had it on next weeks final - not wanting any silly injuries etc... Theyve done that a good few times this season when ahead by 14-20, overconfidence maybe ? There`ll be none of that in the final, and if Wigan get away early, as they have nearly all their games this season, they`ll be too far ahead for even saints to get back into it late on. For saints to have a chance, they have to put doubts in Wigan minds and to do that they have to get off to a flyer, and be at least level after 20mins. |

Re: Rugby League 24-26th Sep
Weve not gone stale at all we just had to many injuries and this year was the worse for them, it might be our pitch god knows but this year has been havoc. Burrows is a amazing player very good BUT he shouldnt be tackiling big fat arse men he should be on the wings getting breaks not tackling big dudes down. What we need and i said it in my Wembley rant, we need big players in the forwards we have not got one big player in the team, look when we had Mcdermott he was a big bloke and his size opened spaces for others as you would need 3 or 4 to take him down. If we can get a couple of big men in, get rid of the aussies who come over and keep getting injured and move Burrows out wide we will be unstoppable, were unstoppable as it is when we have a FULL team out, no one can beat us but something needs to be done about finding out why we keep getting much more injuries than other teams

Re: Rugby League 24-26th Sep
Regarding the final. The first thing I would do if I was Mick Potter is announce that Kyle Eastmond will not be playing. No need for silly mind games, just get it out there in the open ( Wigan would still have to prepare for several different half back combinations as Lomax / Wheeler could yet be fit ) Eastmond is clearly not fit and was not at the races Friday and the team suffered both in attack and defence.

Re: Rugby League 24-26th Sep
Just watched the game again and I thought that Leeds 2 best players were Matt Diskin and Kylie Leuluai. MD played better than fellow hooker Buderus and Leuluai never stopped going forward. If James Graham and Tony Pulutua can set a similar platform, then Saints can cause problems

Re: Rugby League 24-26th Sep
I have to agree with a few of the Leeds players getting a bit old in the tooth now allthough not quite ready for the knackers yard, players like Senior could still do a job for a lower team but at the top level he can no longer run for 80mins.
Fitness told in the end as Leeds came out of the blocks firing on all cylinders , 3 men in the tackle forcing Wigan back for the first 20 mins, once Wigan weatherd that storm and Leeds were spent they just dismantled leeds for the remaining 60 mins. I think fitness will also tell in the final, if Wigan go up a gear especially the forwards everytime Cunningham go's to take a breather on the bench , as thats when Saints are most vulnerable then I can see Wigan winning this, I thought Wigan also defended well against Leeds, something that has been a bit lapse in recent weeks. |
