Re: Rugby Union: Guiness & Magners

Bristol last game at the rec for two years and realistically about five of their players will be retiring this season so I think the -9 is good shout.

I'd be happy to take Ulster with anything up to -7 so your -5 looks decent to me.

Munster -10 away from home to a decent magners league team?? Are Llanelli that bad? I know they have a few injuries and have'nt had a great season but no bet at -10 for me.

ulster/munster/bristol treble @6/4 7pts

Lads we're offically taking a hiding today. Ulster were played off the park, bristol should have lost by more and munster never remotely looked like covering the handicap.

Re: Rugby Union: Guiness & Magners

agree about Munster maybe redroar, but the other two (especially Ulster) not so much.

Ulster played some good rugby, just gave away soft scores as soon as they scored themselves and that really cost them.

Worcester obviously decide to concede penalties rather than chances and it worked for them.

Re: Rugby Union: Guiness & Magners

Two games left today. Firstly bath at home to sarries looks a lock to me. Its getting very tight at the top in england and bath will target this as a maximum pointer. Sarries are missing their best back in de kock and their best forward in hill, as well as a few other regular first teamers.

Bath -14 10/11 8pts

The second game is leinster versus the hapless dragons. The thing about leinster is that they never do the expected i.e. beat munster one week and lose to edinburgh the next. 20 points is a big ask and leinsters gravitation towards a forward game this season makes me less likely to back them. The forecast in dublin is poor and this one might be a bit of a grind

One bet for me here

Total match points 33-47 @6/5 6pts

I'll let you choose the order but to sum up.............

"The less than good, the very bad & the downright rubbish"

Lets be honest Doc if Drahm had started Worcester would have won by about 6 considering the handicap was 9 I dont think bristol ever had a chance of covering.

Glasgow won by 11 the handicap was 3-5 for Ulster and you say they played some good, so what!! The result is all that matters.

Re: Rugby Union: Guiness & Magners

absolutely agree that the result is all that matters, just pointing out that Ulster weren't played off the park - they were largely responsible for their own downfall.

Wuss can't really have any complaints. Wuss obviously reckoned that if they killed the Bristol ball their game would die and they were right. It was cynical, but hey-ho - Bristol should have been able to react and they weren't. Agree that Drahm may well have made it worse.

No complaints from me aboiut the results - just commenting on the play itself.

Fair enough doc i retract my 'outplayed' statemant, William's teams generally play attractive rugby but realistically Ulster are in need of a big change in personell in the summer. I believe they've signed BJ Botha for next seaon who would be a great player at this level.(not knocking the ML just that he's world class).

Re: Rugby Union: Guiness & Magners

agree Botha is a great signing. They've made a few more interesting ones, and there are reputedly a few big announcements still to come. I heard the Ulster CEO interviewed on radio today and he said they'll wait till the Super 14 is over before commenting as players involved there don't want the distractions.

Williams will do a good job I'm sure, but they need an injection of fresh blood - especially as they're losing Bowe, Wilson, Best etc for next year.

Re: Rugby Union: Guiness & Magners

Big day in the Guiness premiership today with three of the games being do or die for the playoffs. Been having a good look at the newcastle/leicester game and the -9 looks good value to me. I know leicester haven't been playing the best of late but if they're playing badly the newcastle are playing awful. Tait and Flood are missing, not that they've been up to much of late. You'd have to fear for the newcastle pack, maybe a push over try or two for the tigers. Tigers need maximum points from both games to have a realistic chance and I think they'll start today.

Tigers -9 8pts

Re: Rugby Union: Guiness & Magners

Tait is listed by the BBC as playing redroar?
I agree about the tip though. Newcastle are poor right now and the incentive is huge for Leicester. They'll probably get top 4 with just two wins though. Their rivals are Sale and Quins (1 and 2 points ahead respectively), who play each other today. Tigers then play Quins at home next week. A Quins win today (which I expect) and two Tigers wins would be enough in that scenario. If Sale win, then it'll come down to bonus points.

My picks for today:

Quins (Scratch) with Stan James
Tigers -8 with Hills
London Irish -15 with Stan James
Wasps -5 with Hills
