Man Utd v Spurs
I hate backing against Man Utd as I never seem to get them on a day when they lose. That said anyone who thinks that 6.50 isn't value on the away win must be MAD considering that Spurs are easily as good as Man Utd - man for man - considering Man Utds injury list.Man Utd have 9 first team squad members out for tomorrows game. Big names like Giggs, Neville, Heinz and Keane. Spurs have bought very well and the prices here are based as much on reputation as current facts.
£10 win @ 11/2 Spurs
Luton v Plymouth
I was very close to leaving this game but then I studied Luton's recent home form a little more closely. As anyone can see Luton haven't lost at home all season having a 4-3-0 record. Add to that the fact that Plymouth have had some creditable draws away to decent sides and it seems at first glance like a no bet. However - Luton have drawn at home to Leeds and Wolves (two of the best sides in the division). The only side of Plymouth's average ability to take anything away from Luton so far has been Sheff Weds who managed a 2-2 draw, which isn't bad form by Luton 7 games into the season. In other words Luton have beaten everyone at home you would expect them to have done (inc some decent sides that you might not, like Southampton, Norwich and Preston who will all be top half sides at the end of this year) and I think that this form line indicates that they should be too strong for Plymouth.
Successful punting is all about spotting value so it is with still a little trepidation that I am backing Luton as 4/6 as that price is just about right in my book.
£10 win @ 4/6 Luton
Southend v Barnsley
Southend have lost their last two games away from home and this has meant that their price has drifted out to 4/6 which I consider to be a little value punt now. Barnsley have been fairly hapless away from home so far this season picking up only 4 points (1 win, 1 draw) from 6 games and nothing indicates that this away slump is about to be arrested. Southend on the other hand have a good home record 5-1-1. My team Nottingham Forest went away to Southend a week or two back and lost 1-0 which is the only game we have come away from pointless in 7 league outings. We were battered that day and Megson admitted we had come across a far better side. Based on that experience and the 4/6 available I will be having a bet on the home win here.
£20 win @ 4/6 Southend
Chester v Bury
Chester have a good home record having banged in 18 goals in only 7 matches. Bury have had a decent run of form in the league having not lost in their last 4 outings. However on closer examination all of those games were against bottom half opposition and I see Chester as being in a different class to those sides. I think that Bury will give a decent account of themselves but I expect Chester to simply outscore them today.
£17.73 win @ 3/4 Chester
Torquay v Macclesfield
Two sides right at the bottom of the football league. Normally I wouldn't touch this with a bargepole but Macclesfield are that bad away from home I can't resist the near even money on offer for the home side. Torquay have beaten some average away sides at their own ground like Shrewsbury and Lincoln and I am taking this factor with me to give some confidence that they will be too strong for Macclesfield. According to the
BBC Macclesfield are also suffering from some key injuries and I am hoping that their replacements are no better than the normal eleven that do so badly away from their own ground. The only worrying factor is that Macclesfield did turn in one decent performance away from home this season in the Carling Cup - where they beat my side Nottingham Forest 3-2 at the City Ground.
£10 win @ 10/11 Torquay
Conclusion
5 selections - £67.73 staked.
